Are both of those rods in your video the same and what brand are they please. Who makes them? That is one sweet setup for sure!

The majority of my spinners depending on size is anywhere from 12 pounds to 16 pounds of drag for fishing bottom fish like snapper and grouper. My conventionals are roughly about the same unless it's my big tournament sized reels and I still only set the drags for half of the overall drag at most.

I live in the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago. I would like to get one but I'm worried about the mag seal aspect of that reel. I would like to be able to service the reel myself without sending it back to the company. Would you advise i get the BG MQ with this in mind?

No matter what braid size I pick there's always someone telling me I don't need one that heavy. The way I look at it I'm willing to sacrifice some casting distance for the extra padding. The diameter is already way smaller than a comparable mono line and on larger reels I'm not going to use (or shell out) for more than 300 yards anyway so if the line capacity is 330 yards of PE 3 then that's what she's getting and the rare monster will be coming home rather than 400 yards of PE 1.5 and getting spooled.

Question. I have a reel that has line cap. In mono only. Do I get braided line that is equivalent to the diameter of the minimum mono size listed?
@pakde8002
@pakde8002 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can go by line diameter or try finding specs online. I recently bought a Penn Slammer 760 because it was too cheap to pass up and since it's a pretty old model they only listed line capacity for mono on the box but I found the braid capacity on Google. If your reel isn't set up for braid be sure to use a mono backing so the braid doesn't slip on the spool.

I want to get my first sealed reel, but I don't have that BIG CASH to invest. Can you recommend a sealed reel of 6000 size that won't break the bank? Preferably, Daiwa or Shimano

I've been beating up on a 6000 BG MQ kept 30lb braid on it for 2 years now, still just as smooth now as it was out of the box. Whooped everything from 5lb bass to 40" snook. Best spinning reel I've ever bought

The brass main gear in the smaller size of my Slammers will out torque and muscle workhorse a fish far beyond the ability of those big main gears. Try peddling a bike up hill on the high big main gear

Nope. Just enjoy using their products. I still think a Penn Spinfisher VI and a Shimano Saragosa are great alternatives (to each their own).

Everyone has their favorite reel make. I don't own a Shimano because other than the top shelf models I can't figure out which is best. I mean they have so many models it's confusing. And they have models starting at $25 up to, well sky's the limit. Daiwa isn't much better in that regard. I guess I'm just old school. I buy Penn 10 to one of other makes because even though I strongly suspect there are better reels I know I can depend on anything Penn sells.

I’ve tried almost every reel and I can say that there isn’t huge differences when comparing specific reels from Shimano to Daiwa. Depends on your budget. I do like the BG MQ for the price point it’s a fantastic reel. My stradics have been very good also but have started to run a bit rough. My regular BG has been excellent as well although a bit heavy. It’s been flawless. Always always always wash down with fresh water after use. Like thee Vanford as well for lighter inshore saltwater and fresh water. Don’t own but have used a Twin Power for a week and a very nice reel but expensive. Fuego is a real nice less expensive inshore alternative. Own 3 of those. Time will tell if the BG MQ holds up. But if is durable as the regular BG then I may purchase two more. Next purchase will be a Tatula MQ and Saragossa.

A whole year you've been using the Daiwa? I have Shimano reels that I've been using (with no issues) for up to 10 years. This is nothing more than another selling opportunity to purchase Daiwa reels from S/S.
