The problems begin with the endless ignorance surrounding the differences between women and men. People, including doctors, simply ignore the thousands of differences between women and men and, at best, treat women like small men. At worst, extreme misogynists want women to suffer their entire lives. I address women - first and foremost, educate yourselves broadly on this topic. There are more than 8,000 differences between the sexes, in every aspect. Medicine and research have focused solely on men, not on women. By nature, women are supposed to live decades longer than men! Decades! Not three years. Women, by their very nature (and females of many other species as well), simply age much more slowly than males. This is something no one teaches you anywhere. If anything, you're taught misogynistic lies that are the opposite of reality. You are suffering from terrible stress, trauma (most of it made by Y chromosome), environmental poisoning (men made), and misogynistic ideologies (both left-wing and right-wing... because it’s unclear which is worse - progressive or Abrahamic misogyny). This disrupts your hormones, and you mistakenly believe that the problem lies within you. If society were matriarchal, you would see what women are truly capable of and how healthy you are meant to be naturally ( BTW women should look the same from 20 to 60 ...and the media show you 50 yo women who look 80!!!) The ignorance is so vast that people don’t even realize that women feel much more pain! Women have more pain receptors and a hormonal state that heightens pain sensitivity, while men have high testosterone levels that reduce all sensation of pain.

My grandmother was done at 40. Had afib later in life. My mom was done by 47. Has all those metabolic cluster issues of high cholesterol, insulin resistance, high triglycerides. I most likely started at 36, but did not notice many problematic symptoms until 38. I already had multiple inflammatory disorders and neurological disorders since my 20s. I am so freaked out over what will come next. Because I "look young/am young" for this, people are dismissive of my issues. It's scary.

Have you had your thyroid checked? My mother suffered for years starting at around age 37 and they thought she might be entering early menopause because of her symptoms...irregular periods, intolerance to heat, anxiousness. It turned out to be an autoimmune disease...Graves Disease which causes hyperthyroidism and a whole host of unpleasant symptoms including aFib and tachycardia. I also developed it when it was in my early 40s. It can be very debilitating.
@Sidera17 Жыл бұрын
@@cymbelinebritain6799 Yes, they did. I get routine thyroid checks bc the diseases run in my family, and this year was the first year it was slightly hypo-thyroid, but not enough to treat. I had half the estradiol a normal woman my age has, so they think the thyroid is slowly being affected by the hormones, and not the other way around, so they don't want to treat it yet. 😒. I am sorry you have gone through something similar. I've been chronically ill since my 20s with symptoms similar to thyroid issues on and off and I am sorry you have to suffer similarly.
@cymbelinebritain6799 Жыл бұрын
@@Sidera17 Sorry to hear of your troubles. Yeah, the thyroid can really mess you up. Back in February of 2020, I decided, stupidly, to stop taking my meds because I was losing weight and wanted to hasten the process. I knew that if I stopped taking them for a while, my metabolism would speed back up and I'd lose weight quicker. The worst mistake I could have made. While at a housewarming party I'd thrown for my eldest daughter, my heart started to go into constant afib and beating very quickly. I took a couple of beta blockers, assuming that would take care of it. I would still get occasional bouts of it so I figured it was no big deal. I was wrong. I ended up in the hospital with a crash cart at the foot of my bed in full blown thyroid storm and heart failure. I didn't realize that's what it was at the time, but it is nothing to mess with. It happened due to my own negligence, but I can vouch for the fact that thyroid issues can seriously affect your health and well being. I hope they can figure out what the issues are and you can get prompt and efficient care. Best of luck to you! 🌹❤
@marlenegold280 Жыл бұрын
@@Sidera17 Always get a copy of all the labs to see if doctor truly tested the full thyroid panel. TSH and T4 only is not the full thyroid panel. TSH is a pituitary marker, not thyroid. Doctors are often fixated on TSH, which is the last marker to show Hypothyroidism after all the real thyroid markers have shown Hypothyroidism snd even Hashimoto’s autoimmune disease. Waiting and delay in treatment, makes it harder to prevent more damage to the thyroid. This is true in all autoimmune diseases. Hypothyroidism is found to be mostly Hashimoto’s and sometimes combined with Graves. Proper testing and treatment has been declining in recent years terribly.

When you say cholesterol are you referring to the typical fixation of doctors on LDL-C (a lipid transporter, not cholesterol itself)? It does not measure particle size, rather it lump all of them together. A more accurate measure would be your Triglyceride:HDL ratio. These are usually correctable through diet and lifestyle… and definitely not ever a statin. The side effects can be life altering due to terrible side effects, sometimes permanently. Always ask doctor for your copy of your labs, including reference ranges. It is your legal right.

150 minutes of moderate movement per week. Incorporate strength or resistance training for your muscles 3 days a week. There are simple calculators online for determining your peak heart rate for cardiovascular training based on sex/age/current activity level, but most folks can accomplish that with walking. Then eat foods as natural to the source as possible. As a woman in her mid 40s, a medical practitioner AND someone living with an auto immune condition (Hashimotos hypothyroid) I also have spent time eliminating pro-inflammatory foods like highly refined seed oils, processed sugars and grains.

My low estrogen has caused an inflamed labia. This is the worse pain I’ve EVER been in! I had my son in 2022. My issues started after having him. I didn’t realize how IMPORTANT it is to get treatment. Long story short; I had a heart attack after having my son. I am assuming I was in early stages of menopause at that time & didn’t realize it. Polite distinction. Suffering is a part of life. That's a fact. It is going to happen, at some point, in everyone's life. That said, suffering over aging isn't requisite, but it is also fairly common, unfortunately.

Thank you! I am so so frustrated by my inability to lose weight - I eat a Mediterranean diet, I focus on hitting my protein goals, I work and incredibly physically demanding job (fitbit records 120-180 active minutes in a shift), and an active life (two kids under 3), and it seems like nothing I do will take me down even 10 lbs. At 41 I’ve just realized all of the things I’ve been struggling with the past few years are perimenopause - I’m so scared, as someone with PMDD I feel like it’s going to be brutal.

Hi! Specifically, what are these things that we can do to attenuate these cardiovascular risks that are tied to menopause (particularly early menopause). Asking as a 40 year old a year into peri-menopause. ☺️ I'm on birth control, but I'm wondering if this could be increasing my risk of cardiovascular disease...

Starting in my late 40s autoimmune. perimenopause PMS around a year irregular heart...started period it stopped .. then around two years before menopause I got stuck in a fib. Lipids fine AIC fine. A fib is bad many cardioversions one ablation 30 days only reg rhythm. Stuck in it now. Zero SARS too.

What does it mean that your weight is not an indicator of your health? Does it mean u can be overweight and still be healthy? I thought being overweight put u at risk for almost all diseases for all ages. Pls elaborate

How can I find a doctor in Albuquerque New Mexico that will prescribe what I need? My doctor thinks I shouldn’t be on estrogen only progesterone and I’m 44 in perimenopause now. The symptoms just hit me like a freight train this summer.

I’ve a stupid question. I don’t think I went through menopause until 61. Is this possible? I have endometrial ablation at age 38 so had no more periods after that - yes what a godsend that was! But based on symptoms I think I hit that last step at 61. I’m now 62. I never really had any hot flashes or night sweats. At 61 I did experience depression, sleep disturbances different than my normal (think worked night shifts for decades so yo-yo sleeping going days fm nights back and forth), loss of sexual interest, weight gain, carb cravings, inability to loose weight, exhaustion, poor pain control (already have chronic severe joint pain x 25 years, multiple orthopedic surgeries).

Doctor! My mom is in her 60s, post menopause she started having pain in her feet. Could this be realted to some hormone? Or any specific mineral or vitamin deficiency?

Does it follow that conversely the later you go into menopause the less cardiovascular risk you’ll have? What would be the average age for both types? So many questions now.

I wish they had taught primary care doctors more of this and taught them to educate women patients early on in life, or even better PCP doctors should ensure all woman patients have a gyne doc to inform them of these matters early on.

I am 42 years old and have been separator menopause for about 3 years now. I went to the doctor and she literally berated me for my weight I told her I get about 15k steps a day and I do not eat anything over 1500 calories a day. I walk every day. She literally told me I was lying and would not help me. She said I was too young to even be considering menopause. I don't know what to do.

I'm so sorry to hear that 😔 My former Dr berated me as well. That is NOT PROFESSIONAL, to say the least! I found a new doctor - she was so compassionate and empathetic! Due to severe anemia, I had to have a hysterectomy, which she performed. I am so grateful to her for surviving the ordeal. Go back to your insurance and discuss your concerns; then start researching the list of contracted OB-Gyns. I pray your diligence will find you a compassionate and competent doctor 🙏🏽
