Oh what an excellent tutorial! I’m 74 and just seriously trying art for the first time. But I could not see! You gave me sight because you explained so well what is happening in shadows! I can’t wait to try it!

Getting ready for foot surgery and will have to be off my foot for 6 weeks. So.... I have been watching you tutorials on pen and ink and love them. The way you describe the shadowing and light sources is very easy to understand. I have started sketching flowers and although my basic beginners drawings are ok the contouring, shadowing and light sources have been difficult. I just purchased your two books and I plan to watch your tutorials and follow your books while recovering from surgery. I am so glad I finally found what I have been looking for... thank you!

Huge thank you man. I try to learn how to draw for years now and have seen so many videos, even worked through a few books but I never managed to understabd what I am doing. I appreciate it so much how you always break down everything into simple forms and basic value and cross contour principles and then carve out the resulting form from it. A practice I have not come across in this fine step-by-step detail in any other videos or book. Sure they refer to it but they never really show the process they just imply it. For someone like me who is not inheritly talented this is more than helpful. I just bought your books and am having a blast. The first time I have the feeling I am really learning on how to draw things ON MY OWN - understanding the process. Your videos are also perfect examples. Thank you so much again! - I consider you as my drawing master now lol. 😜

Mr. Alphonso, I find your advice and techniques extremely helpful and your videos have helped me progress in my artwork so much. Now I look for simple forms in EVERYTHING...LOL! I was hoping I could request a tutorial on sketching Acanthus Leaves and Filagree designs. I really struggle with finding the proper shading techniques (especially in a silhouette format). I feel I probably lose sight of the less is more aspect but I would love to see your approach to drawing such designs. If not, I totally understand and still thank you for all of the amazing video tutorials.
@alphonsodunn6 жыл бұрын
Thanks much! Its heartwarming to read feedback like this. I will definitely add your requests to the list and try to find a way to incorporate them in a video about decorative motifs or something similar. But try seeing them as 3D with thickness and the lines as grooves or ridges. This hints at where shadow lines will go
