There are a handful of rich sources of information on KZbin about shooting a bow well. You have been one of them. Welcome back!

This is great for anyone from a beginner to advanced. Awesome video as always! I’ve been tinkering with different levels of back tension and notice my pin is super solid but getting my hinge to fire becomes harder. I think the beginning of your video is going to help me find that sweet spot.

Great video, having issues hold steady especially with bow arm dropping and this video was great. Really interested in getting more info and seen you talking about video series available for purchase, but I can't seem to find this on wordpress website

Thanks for the video and tips, Robert. I have a question. What do archers mean when they say" attack the target" or" pull the bow apart. In watching world archery and then interviews with pros like Kyle Douglas. They say that's what they're doing. I'm trying to figure out how to pull hard but yet not create tension. Guess I'm confused with trying to have a relaxed shot and pull hard. Bow goes off quicker, which is good for holding less time, which is good for my bad shoulder, but pulling hard, not so good on my shoulder. I would appreciate any advice. Ty

Some archers are super aggressive in their shot. They push and pull a lot and create a lot of body tension. Everyone's different though so find what works best for you and your situation. It may be that you can't get overly aggressive because of your shoulder so you have to find a middle ground. I personally think a good amount of tension in the body is better than trying for a relaxed shot. I tried for the relaxed shot because I kept hearing that and struggled. Once I gave up on that and created tension in the shot to steady myself up, my scores went up and stayed consistent.

Hi i have a type of target panic where I'd draw my bow and get it on target for 2 or 3 seconds , and then I drop low and have to bring my dot back on target Once I've gotten back on target I punch Any advice

At full draw, I think about pulling my elbows away from each other, bow arm elbow down and out to keep elbow and shoulder low and slight bend in elbow, and draw arm elbow up and back using back tension. Is this correct? I get unsteady at a longer hold which is a combination of target panic (helps to focus on target rather than the sight pin) and breath hold fatigue. What is the best breathing timing for pre-draw, draw cycle, and aim/holding? Should I inhale pre-draw or during the draw? Should I exhale at hold and not be breathing or slow end exhale at release?
@rcrchery

I inhale before drawing, exhale on draw, then take in more air to hold during shot. The elbows routine you mentioned sounds good to me if it's working for you. What type of release are you using?

@@rcrchery I use a TRU Ball Max Hunter 3 which is a handheld thumb push release, palm facing out. It has a 360 pivoting head and equal pincers to mitigate D-loop torque. The thumb push is secure without accidental release and solved a trigger panic problem I had. I applied your breathing recommendations and immediately got 4 X's in a row! Before I was holding my breath throughout the draw cycle and aiming process which worked okay if the shot goes off fast, but not if the hold/aiming takes longer. Now at nocked pre-draw I take two deep calming breaths to pre-saturate with O2 and to slow heart beat. I hold my breath during draw to maintain a rigid thorax through peak weight/hump, and then exhale slowly about 1/3rd when I get to the valley. This has to be a slow controlled exhale, so as not to collapse or relax too much and let the string get jumpy. Then another breath in for more oxygen during aiming with another slow partial exhale as I acquire the sight picture, focusing on the target rather than the sight pin. At release I am not breathing but neither forcefully holding my breath with a closed glottis. This seems to relax unnecessary tension, maintain proper tension, calm the sight picture, slow the heart beat, and allow better oxygenation when longer holds are needed. Thanks!

Play with your stance open it up a little bit at a time and see if that helps hold steady. Play around with it see if it helps.

If straight lines are the best in a release. Why wouldn’t a typical hunting wrist strap be better

For me it came down to a consistent anchor placement. I seem to anchor better with a handheld.

I say this all the time you see these guys that are pulling back them hedge releases buried on just their thumb or their index literally it's rolled so far forward that they used the tips of their other fingers to activate the release you know having that hand all twisted up like that and trying to activate that release you're putting so much unnecessary movement on the release end instead of just a simple pull the bow back drop the shoulder down anchor clink relax fryer
