There are three different types of melanin, including:
Eumelanin. There are two types of eumelanin: black and brown. Eumelanin is responsible for dark colors in skin, eyes and hair. People with brown or black hair have varying amounts of brown and black eumelanin. When there’s no black eumelanin and a small amount of brown eumelanin, it results in blonde hair.
Pheomelanin. This type of melanin pigments your lips, nipples and other pinkish parts of your body. People who have equal parts eumelanin and pheomelanin have red hair.
Neuromelanin. While eumelanin and pheomelanin control the colors of things you see (such as skin, hair and eyes), neuromelanin is responsible for the color of your neurons.

A research group has found that sensory neurons play an important role in human skin pigmentation and physiology. Specifically, the neurons secrete a protein known as Repulsive Guidance Molecule B (RGMB), which stimulates melanocytes (the cells in skin that produce melanin, which is responsible for skin coloration). This study could lead to the development of new drugs to treat pigmentation disorders.

Hello, can dark skin color turn into white skin later? So can melanin turn into a light color? Does glutathione have an effect on melanin?
@DrFaridZarif
@DrFaridZarif 2 ай бұрын
There is a disease called Vitiligo. It occurs when pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) die or stop producing melanin - the pigment that gives your skin, hair and eyes color. The involved patches of skin become lighter or white. Glutathione, being a strong antioxidant with additional anti-melanogenic properties, has recently become the most popular “systemic skin lightening molecule.” The most “popular” and controversial route of administration of glutathione for skin lightening has been intravenous (IV). Glutathione is generally a safe ingredient for use as a dietary supplement. An oral acute toxicity study of GSH in mice found that the lethal dose 50 (LD50) was more than 5 g/kg, indicating that glutathione is nontoxic.
@iilydaa
@iilydaa 2 ай бұрын
@@DrFaridZarif Thank you very much for your information. Yes, some people claim that by administering intravenous glutathione for life and their skin color becomes whiter, I do not know how this is possible, because I know that skin color is genetic and does not change.

Melaninated people? So everyone? We all have varying amounts of melanin so nobody is without any Melanin.
@DrFaridZarif
@DrFaridZarif Ай бұрын
Typically, all humans have the same number of melanocytes. However, the amount of melanin produced by these melanocytes varies. People with more melanin generally have darker skin, eyes and hair compared to those with little melanin. Additionally, people who're born with clusters of melanocytes have freckles. When you spend time out in the sun, your body produces more melanin. The substance absorbs light from UV rays and redistributes it toward the upper layers of skin. It also protects the genetic material stored in your cells by keeping out harmful UV rays. But keep in mind that melanin alone isn’t enough to protect your skin from sun damage. That’s why it’s so important to wear sunscreen and appropriate clothing whenever you’re outside.

Science cannot explain everything, but eye color is determined by genetics, of course, but the genes associated with eye color are directly connected to the production, use and storage of a pigment... melanin. And the pigment doesn't only determine eye color − it also controls the color and tone of our skin and hair as well.
