3 Very Cheap PWM Charge Controllers, Maybe too Cheap - 1464

I was trying to find a cheap charge controller for my bunker projekt,, I am not sure I got the right one for that project yet.

Hey Morten. It is not charge controller doing something MPPT-ish, it is your bench power supply is decreasing the voltage to maintain current limit (it has C.C led on which means constant current). 🙂

Hi Morten, For MPPT controllers, check out Biltema. 25-5099 is a 10A and 25-5077 is a 20A model, both are Chinese SRNE brand and both has RS232 Modbus interface. You can get them where they drink Mokaj :-) The cheap PWM controllers use the PWM to lower the panel voltage. They cannot increase panel voltage. Also N-channel mosfet (which are more efficient than P-channel) switches the negative line, and so you have positive common. (like old English cars?) Remember to put your fuses, to protect the wiring, on the negative wires! The PWM controller cannot limit the charge current, that's why your power supply is current limiting. Make sure the solar panels can't deliver more amps than your battery can take.

Definitely report the ones that claim to be MPPT. You get your money back, worst case you have to send back the controllers you don't need at amazon's expense.

These cheap solar charge controllers are fine for one or two panels only (100w to 200w max or 20amps). In my opinion when working with solar watts are important but the amps is what normally catches people out and causes fires from cables burning due to to many amps (I'm no expert just my opinion / view). I do not think your find a solar charge controller which will power up with out a battery, almost all I have tried do not work. Great video as always. I know they cost more but have you thought about trying a Hybrid Solar Inverter, some of these work without a battery.
