I used cove base molding, corners coped and trimmed to fit around bolts, and snug on all three sides.

Thank you for this video. I asked my Dad for a caulk that would do the job and this is exactly what I meant. I’m sealing up my Tundra and Leer top for camping 🏕 I love these KZbin videos that share solutions.

How do you not have more subscribers? The content is identical in production quality to a lot of the big channels

That's very nice to say. It's growing and I'm hopeful. I'll just keep posting and if people like it they will come. Lol Thanks watching 😁

🎊 For future modifications, whenever you rivet two pieces of material together (that you want waterproof), put your bead of silicone/sealant BETWEEN the two materials (like a gasket) NOT on top (like a band-aid). Not only is it bulletproof, but it’s invisible‼️ This is how we waterproof sheet metal construction in the Arctic…and silicone is workable at 50° BELOW ZERO, also.

I like the channel man! I have a Tundra with a summit camper and am out here in Central Oregon. We actually follow each other on IG. I did something very similar to mine and it works great, no water!

Oh nice. How are you liking your summit? What is your Instagram handle?

Evergreen Overland I love it! Blew through 3 different roof top tents and was tired of dealing with them. Got the Summit and never looked back. Very happy with it! I’m @redrock_design

Be careful when using lexel. We use it at work to seal roof leaks and once it cures it’s almost impossible to remove, so if you put it somewhere you want to remove you have to cut it off with a razor blade

Works good sealing drains. Yep it only comes off with knife. Short pot time.

Great channel, but one question. Doesnt moving the alignment of your tailgate away from the seals lessen the impact of weather proofing?
@EvergreenOverland3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can see your point there, but there really is no seal to speak of on most truck bed tailgates from the factorya. There are close tolerances and flashing from factory, but water and dust find a way past with little effort. Adding a rubber seal is in my opinion is the only way to mitigate that intrusion and it worked prett well for me. Thanks for watching Doug.

Like the angle idea! What did you do at the bottom? It looks like you velcroed a rubber mat to the tailgate and the floor of the truck and have it blocking the bottom. Is that correct?

It's a truck bed rug. Mostly for a little insulation factor. Thanks for watching Snow Geezer

Why aren't the sealing surfaces designed flat. Hey, there's an idea. They don't have to be so convoluted a shape, what for...???

Can you show or tell how you hollowed out the latch bars?

A deep shame you had to do that in the first place, are all of your pickups like that ?
@jmalinowski10002 жыл бұрын
So you made the seals the wrong thickness, then you modified the truck to fit the improper seal? Then you used Water Displacement #40 to wash away the lubricant from the latches? Brilliant!
@sirhenrystalwart8303 Жыл бұрын
He wouldn't need to modify the truck if were designed properly in the first place.
