These tips are amazing! The one small tip that actually helped me the most but is likely overlooked is holding the grab as long as possible. By doing so, I find my landings are way more controlled. I hold the grab almost until touch down. If I let go early than I tend to come in too fast on the landing. Also adds a bit more style to float down with the leg stretched in the grab. Hoping with this extra airtime with the grab that I can possibly do a footout. Looking forward to a tutorial on this one day. 🙏🏼

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! If you're managing such a long grab I don't think you need a tutorial for the front roll one footer. You got this!

Hey Steven, thanks so much for this great video about the different steps to the inverted front roll. I have been watching this masterclass about 10 times in the last week and managed to nail my first inverted front rolls with tailgrab yesterday. For me the keys were: edge hard, board to the hand and head back. Amazing feeling, foremost the head back moment!!🙌 Loving it.

That's awesome! I'm super stoked to hear that you've started landing them. Now you can start to throw them more inverted with more power!

Awesome video. I must admit your edging vs carving tip has solved the reason why my sent backrolls on my dominant jumping side became worse than my sent backroll on weaker side! 🙌 I think you are technical enough to go over a board-off tutorial as well as an in depth foot pad placement/ setup video. I know it comes down to weight/height and overall feeling but it would be great to hear from a pro exactly how they have their footstraps setup - especially when it comes to the board-off stuff. Thank you so much for the epic content!

Awesome to hear that the edging vs carving tip helped you out! I'll have a look at creating a video for straps, foot placement and stance. The link below will take you to a board off video I published a while back kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHqThXqfmc-kmZo Had the thought to do a grab to boardoff series for next year.

@@stevenakkersdijk that is gold thank you! 🙌 I look forward to that video. I have just personally found it so difficult and not much info to be able to set up my foot pads and straps to be extremely comfortable and so I can get the maximum control out of my board. After experimenting I began to realise the different board characteristics and flex patterns really change. But I do feel like a pro rider like you would know so much more about this topic. The grab to board off series will be mint!

Your Tutorials are superb and are getting even better!! I love it and will try the Frontroll Inverted + with Grab next Holidays! It would be awesome if you can do the videos with left foot in front - or just show the sequence at the end of the video, cause it is a lot easier for somewone who is a regular rider to imagine the trick when you see it.

Awesome video. It helped me to get it done, finally 😅. Most important advice for me was to keep the kite on one side of the wind window (11 -11:30, for frontrolls riding to the left) and to concentrate first on the pop and then initiate the rotation. Before, I thought of the rotation before the pop and messed up everything by doing so. Something I have found useful for me that isn’t mentioned elsewhere: I did my first successful frontrolls with a 14er kite and long lines. The kite moves less and you have a longer hang time. Have fun, keep safe and enjoy the process!

Kite steering is the key there, you just need to get used to that without the one footer and then you can build it up.

As always, amazing content. So well done and helpful. Thanks to your videos, I really progressed last year and am looking forward to 2022. As many of us are stuck in winter and waiting for spring, a topic for a master class would be what to work on in what order to progress more quickly. Have a trick progression list would be helpful, because many tricks naturally lead into others. Big ups1

hi steven, great video. I'm having a really hard time keeping the kite steady in the air while I do the rotation, especially on the inerted front rolls, I lose the perception of where the kite is. I would love to be able to do a huge front roll like the one in the video, but I always end up doing an involuntary down loop mid-air. any tips? thanks
@stevenakkersdijk3 жыл бұрын
Repetition in the key here. Loads of practise where you maybe don't do the frontroll but just focus on steering the kite and how that feels. After that you can slowly start adding small things that make it harder. But your muscle memory should help to show you where the kite is.
@huvoliveira2 жыл бұрын
Repetition. And with me I was hanging to the bar while rotating, learn to feel your weight just in the harness and it should help a lot with all rotations
@mieblock4856 Жыл бұрын
Heyy Steven thanks for the tutorial! Were those first few tricks filmed in Squamish??

The entire tutorial part has been filmed in squamish yes. When the access to the spit was still easy 🙈
@mohizzle3 жыл бұрын
Solid! Would have loved to hear your tips on that front roll one footer. When I was starting, one big issue I always had with my frontrolls was pulling on my backhand by mistake too much. By adding a grab I actually release my back hand from the bar making the front roll smoother.
@stevenakkersdijk3 жыл бұрын
I'll see if i can do a video which is more focussed on the bigger send frontrolls. Happy to hear that a grab actually helps your kite steering during the frontroll, that's awesome!

Hey mate, I have difficulty especially when doing a higher front roll, and getting lost where the kite is, and when and how much stirring the kite forward again.... do you keep your eyes on the kite?
@stevenakkersdijk Жыл бұрын
This is a common issue when doing the front or backroll. It's best to slowly build up the jump height so you get muscle memory on the kite steering and a better understanding of what your kite does. This is something you can start building out to higher jumps

I just came here to ask why the picture used to promote the video on youtube has downtown Vancouver in the background, from Spanish Banks (my home turf!) but none of the clips are from there (the riding is all from nearby Squamish)? Just idle curiosity, but also I'd love to randomly find myself riding with you, in Vancouver or Squamish
@stevenakkersdijk Жыл бұрын
You have a very good eye! To be honest with you I wanted an exciting picture for the thumbnail and I only had an inverted frontroll from Spanish banks. So that's the main reason. Would love to come back to the West coast of Canada. Not exactly sure when that will happen though.

What do you guys think is the easiest? Inverted backroll, classic/send frontroll or darkslide?
@stevenakkersdijk Жыл бұрын
Frontroll will be the easiest out of those tricks, than the inverted backroll and darkslide is probably the hardest. But with the right amount of exercise and practise you can learn them any way you prefer
@przemysawmarciniec51809 ай бұрын
Great tutorials! I learned backroll send and classic, backroll to toeside and backroll with loop and transition last season. This season I hope I can learn front roll, inverted backroll and darkslide in this order. Thank you for your response.

I like it when you show the incorrect method so people can identify what they are doing wrong. I know you dont want to do a crappy half front roll to demonstrate but it helps. Larry

dude in frontroll and backroll, I can't stop my rotation, I'm passing through and doing more than 1 spin and I can't land on my feet... any tips?
@stevenakkersdijk2 жыл бұрын
Always hard to say without a video, but option are: Steering your kite too far back (past 12), carving too much on the take off which makes you rotate too fast on the backroll.

Aw, you had a shot of you riding in English Bay for the thumbnail but no actual shots in the video :( Nice tutorial though.

Hehe, someone is paying a lot of attention 😉 We only managed pictures in this spot as the wind was mega gusty by the time we arrived (little bit offshore, so the trees messed up the wind a lot) Happy you like the tutorial 🤙
