I was struggling open face or right slide banana balls for years. This 3 facts really help me a lot to improve my drill. Surely, I got all three mistake at same time, I just couldn’t stop my open face hit in early time. Fantastic Video.

Great explanation and I like you don’t encourage to try to change these 3 things at the same time. The greatest thing came at the end of the video. You made a swing and had poor balance. How easy it would have been for you to edit this, but you didn’t. That shows me that this videos are about us and not about you! I applaud you for that.

I tried the tee in the grip, and was amazed where I have been putting my hands. Can't believe how weak (thumb down the shaft) I have been holding it. As soon as I fixed it I immediately felt better, and the lead thumb fit so much better into the palm of my trail hand. Can't wait to try this on the range, then the course. Thanks Chris!

This worked on my first outing. My left grip was nice and neutral, but my right trailing grip was far too weak. It felt strange at first, but I had great results right out of the gate. I also used the lead wrist bend. This actually got me to be able to play a draw or fade at will. How awesome is that!! I’ve never been able to do that before. Just a few more practice sessions and I’ll have this engrained into my swing. Thanks soooo much... this is great advice made sooo simple!!! Great video!!!

Good stuff! On the range I actually do 3 rehearsal slow swings into the ball and make sure the toe comes around and squares into ball at impact, then I do a live swing on the 4th rep. Works for me, I’ve tried many take away/backswings and all failed to produce straight shots. I focus on impact now and the take away and backswings take care of themselves. Also noticed my tempo has improved focusing more on the impact and square club face.
@michaelmontana080410 ай бұрын
Not long ago I asked Jack if he preferred to address the ball with the clubface open, square or closed. Jack looked at me with that piercing stare: "I've never seen a really good player set it square or closed at address," he said. Then he explained that because you generally set the club so the face is one-quarter inch or so behind the ball, it needs to be slightly open to the target line at that point. If it looked square and you didn't manipulate it during the swing, when the club returned to impact it would be slightly closed, causing a hook. Setting the clubface slightly open at address allows you to: • Release the club fully without fear of hooking. • Swing the club naturally with relaxed arms for maximum clubhead speed-and therefore more distance. • Develop better feel for how the club is aligned as it swings through impact. Jack got this from the best….Ben Hogan.
@2driverpls6525 жыл бұрын
Chris this goes with your other videos.. I pause at the top to set my wrist. I do the Hogan test to check my grip. Then my swing is thumbs up to thumbs up. As long as I stay with that routine I play decent golf.
@haroldsingh77133 жыл бұрын
Great video Chris, simple and well explained. I’ve always thought the club face closes naturally as hips open up and rotation occurs. As such I leave it open and the ball flies off to the right. The idea of getting the lead palm to face the sky after impact is awesome as this requires a conscious effort, which will turn over and close the face

Great as always. Open clubface is a cancer. I discovered recently that an open clubface was causing me to hit Pulls -- kind of counterintuitive-- until you put the puzzle together: Weak Grip, Cupped Wrist, Outside In, Path, Flip at the bottom in an effort to square the clubface, Flip moves face left = Pulls, (and Fades).

I think the open club face is one of my main problems. 1 of your other vids had at the top of the swing, the left thumb directly under the grip. Does this work...i have trouble knowing where the face should be pointing. Should it be to the sky? If it is open, where does it point. My drives generally have mega spin and go high and right.

When you talk about twist angels, am i supposed to «arch» my wrist on my way up to close it, or on the top to close the face? I'm about to buy some thicker grips. Is that likely to change my club-face alignment?
@dennisbresee54035 жыл бұрын
Thicker grips will make it easier to fade or even slice the golf ball. So unless you are drawing your shots you may be in for some problems and added expense of changing your grips again.
@ChrisRyanGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hey Glenn, this is a bit of an old wife’s tale. There is very little, if any, evidence to suggest there is any relationship between grip size and club face at impact. Varying the size of the grip can change a golfers ‘feel’ and this can have an impact, but each case would be individual. My advice would be not to change without first trying to hit shots with a larger handle 👍

The faster I swing, the more open it is. I'm thinking it's #3. I'm swinging faster, but the release is done at the same rate, ie. later on faster swings. The tee in the back of the glove works great for drills to not cup the hand.

Isn't release much more a body rotation issue if you arrive at last parallel with a neutral grip and a flexed/bowed/arched left wrist ?
@ChrisRyanGolf5 жыл бұрын
We can affect the club face far more through our hands and arms through impact. I can hit shots with a great body action and poor body action and still hit straight shots if I have good control over the face with my hands and arms 👍👍

Ive had the 3rd problem for over a month now, my iron shots are all going 20-30 yards low to the right. My problem is that my hands are too forward, a bit like a cricket shot and the club face is 45 degrees open. God knows where this problem came from but its destroying my game. 😪

Still don’t get the difference between body release and hands release. This looks a bit flippy to me which I thought was difficult to control and not recommended?
@ChrisRyanGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, in my opinion I don’t really believe there is such things as a body release and a hands release. In every golf swing the body rotates through the hit and the arms apply sleep to the club, there may be varying amounts but I don’t really buy into there being different types. This is floppy, I did stress that this was a feel and not the reality. The forearms have to rotate to square the face and this is just a feel for those golfers who don’t do this well enough 👍👍
@allandevera87655 жыл бұрын
The easiest way is to close the clubface a few degrees at address pointing a few yards left of the target.
