Having just got back from the driving range this evening. I am amazed at the transformation tee height had on my driving. I increased the tee height massively which combined with positioning the ball more consistently in my stance - I've never hit straighter drives!

Okay maybe one of you guys can help me out here, big fan of the channel: I was recently hitting my drives with an absolutely monstrous slice. I went to the range to try to correct it but I have an open sore on my pinky finger from over-gripping the club. It was actually painful for me to swing, so I thought I would switch my grip and try to go overlapping instead of interlocking, which I'd being doing for about 6-7 years. It felt pretty natural actually and right off the bat, I was hitting my irons with a nice draw and great ball flight. The draw went away as I got into the long irons though and with my 4 and 5 it actually turned into a fade. I didn't mind it though, since I thought it would be useful to have a bit more control with the longer irons. Then I get to the driver and it's an unplayable slice. I was trying to correct my slice already and yet this just magnified the issue tenfold, sending the ball a good 80 yards off line at least. I hit several buckets with the ball off the tee just going into the net on the side of the range. I decided I would try my hardest to hit a hook so I took a ridiculous club path and everything and the ball _still_ sliced. At that moment I realized it wasn't the club path at all, but the face was obviously wide open at impact. So all I did was go back to an interlocking grip and focus on getting my hands through it and I was hitting it straight again with a nice draw. Even knowing the problem, I simply can't get my hands to turn over when I use the overlapping grip with the driver, but I want to be able to because it feels better and I like it with the irons. Question: Would it be completely ridiculous to have a different grip for my driver than with my irons? Would that be a nightmare for consistency reasons long term?
@travisriley38447 жыл бұрын
Ryan, I had the same problem and actually couldn't golf for a week or two comfortably after the blister formed. Solution: rotate the front/top hand of the golf grip more toward the back foot instead of having it facing more front to back of in your stance. The top of the front hand will be rotated slightly more away from your body. The palm will be facing more toward your body. If that doesn't make sense... rotate your front/top hand of your grip counterclockwise on the club shaft into more of an overhand position. If done correctly, you should be able to see more of the top of your knuckles on your top hand. Sorry for the novel, I hope that helps, it worked tremendously for me.

im struggling big time with a fade/sometimes a slice. I have tried everything bar changing my shaft or buying a new club where I can adjust the draw setting. I will be trying the more forward/tee up higher setting which hopefully helps my swing and saves me money. Thank you guys for the vid.

That's a great and simple way of explaining d plane to someone who may not quite grasp it. However for those watching this remember if you are going to hit up the ball will go more left than you think so aim right to compensate. A straight shot hit on the up to someone watching from behind you will look like a slight pull.

Thanks guys for another exciting video! As I had a lot of work on my game with a pro during winter time, I am facing with deep ugly divots behind the ball. Not only with the irons, hybrids and fairway woods as well and even some times with the chief. Wrong attack angle?
@travisriley38447 жыл бұрын
Wolfgang, try to focus on keeping your back more straight and upright in your posture. You will still be bent over slightly in the correct stance like you just did a deadlift and are 75% of the way back up to a full standing position. Your head should feel like it is higher above the ball at address. Not bent way behind the ball and down towards the ground. Hope that helps...

Gents, great video as always, however I often find it difficult to establish the optimum ball position with the driver. I usually play with a slight fade, which I like. However when faced with a tee box aligned to the right, I have difficulty with setting up to the ball. I often suffer from either a block right fade or a pull hook. Is finding the ideal ball position just trial and error or have you any tips for establishing ideal positioning, particularly when standing on an "awkward" tee box. Many thanks. David

Alban Gustin go to the range, set up with like an 8 iron but before you hit the ball put a tee in the ground about 2 inches on the other side of the ball. If you swing correctly pretty straight or even in to out you won't hit the tee but if you swing out to in you will hit the tee. Helped me a ton. I do it with all my clubs
@Pres_107 жыл бұрын
This may or may not help, but really try to keep your right elbow (left elbow if you're left handed) on your right hip while on the downswing. Have someone film you from behind and try to make adjustments accordingly. Hope that helps.
@diego819907 жыл бұрын
Alban Gustin have you tried being a bit more open at impact? Like shoulders and hips. Creates a lot more space and really helps me when Im struggeling...
@travisriley38447 жыл бұрын
Alban, I struggle with this at times as well. I realized it was my arms were not straight enough at address causing me to come over the top of the ball instead of sliding/scooping more under it. It really helped me to focus on keeping both of my forearms straighter in the downswing and much closer to the body instead of out and away from the body. You should have the letter V in between your forearms at address.

@connoranderson64457 жыл бұрын
Hey guys quick question. I have moved the ball up to my left big toe and I'm still constantly hitting an aggressive fade, where most of the time I'm usually OB to the right side of the course. I've tried everything to fix it watched all the videos gone out to the range and it helps but I still can never get it to straighten out. Also, the thing that makes no sense is I hit my irons great is there anything else I can do to help my problem?
@Tidoublemy6 жыл бұрын
You're probably bowing your wrist at the top of your backswing. Try folding your left wrist inward at the top of the swing. Also try not to come over the top of your head but rather around your shoulders with the swing.

Hey, @meandmygolf, whenever I focus on having my spine angle tilted away from the target, I always feel the clubhead will smack the ground on my takeaway, and sometimes it does. Tilting moves the low point back and my swing literally transfers that into the backswing. Any tips for how to solve this?
@seamaster41904 жыл бұрын
Have you tried hovering the club at address?
@touristguy876 жыл бұрын
Yes it is safe to say that if you open the face dramatically in the backswing it is important to close the face in the downswing and critical to get the timing right. Also if you backswing out to in and downswing in to out and your follow-through is out to in...and it is impossible to get this right consistently. That is why everyone cheats one way or another and why no two shots are the same. It is especially difficult to hit consistently if your swing is flat. A flat swing amplifies timing errors into errors in horizontal position.
@touristguy876 жыл бұрын
1:00 WRONG The swing path is one thing, the clubface angle is completely different. That is why you have "dynamic loft" and "attack angle" as two seperate quantities in Trackman. It is very easy to have a negative swing path and positive clubface angle resulting in negative dynamic loft but positive attack angle. Face pointing up + club going down can result in +ve loft or -ve loft depending on which is greater. Lag usually decreases effective club loft but again that depends on the loft and hand position at impact.
@thephotographer5397 жыл бұрын
Just after 2 mins you're saying if you're hitting more down, the path and face are going right and if you're hitting up on the ball, they are both more left. But I come over the top, so while I am hitting down too steeply, I am also swinging across the line to the left . . . ? So is my optimum ball position in the middle of my stance or even further back? Confused . . . .

@touristguy876 жыл бұрын
Doesnt take into consideration body rotation, hand and shoulder rotation all of which affect the clubhead path and head angle at impact.. plus the swing direction. The point here is that swinging up should produce a pull or fade and that simply isn't true if the swingpath is out to in. The ball will cut. The only way to correct that is to swing in to out at impact but there are many ways to do that. Anything resulting from a tee height or position change is easily undone by over or under-rotation.
