Adam Novath Hey, Adam. Question, if you don't mind. Where do you buy your Sageo? Amazon?
@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 7 жыл бұрын
+Gray Blackhelm depends on the sageo if you mean the brown and gold sageo in the video that one is from sword store and it's silk, if you mean the bright red one that one was made for me by a friend. To answer the rest of your question I buy my sageo from various places but never amazon. I've gotten sageo from swordstore.com, tozando, aoi-budogu or nihonzashi (sorry don't remember but whichever it was I have 2 of those), swordnarmory (not highly recommended u less you are on a serious budget) and quite a few of my sageo were given to me as gifts and I've even made a few less traditional ones. I try to avoid chemical fiber for the most part because I find that their just not very nice sageo. Cotton or silk is generally what I recommend.

Is that a hanwei raptor? What model raptor?
@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 2 жыл бұрын
It's a customized shobu zukuri raptor. Lacquered the samegawa black, replaced the ito with black silk, changed the seppa to black seppa, took the finish off the fuchi, kashira and tsuba and I added a red sageo. I've also lately added gold shitodome to the kurigata.

What is the reason the saya comes like that, somehow the texture must be beneficial
@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 5 жыл бұрын
The speckle saya finish is more durable and slightly more grippy than a high gloss saya plus it gives the saya a different look. I prefer speckle or matte over gloss personally. Many of hanwei’s swords come with the speckle saya finish.

@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 4 жыл бұрын
I get that. I used to do that during demos if I had to leave my sword unattended for any length of time that way if a little kid got ahold of it he couldn't open it or if it got knocked down then there was no chance of it falling out of the saya and hurting someone.

Honestly had a better time with this than the Ronin knot (Probably because of my cheap sagao)
@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 4 жыл бұрын
Understandable. The ronin knot is harder to do with a cheap sageo although it is doable. One thing I've been known to do with tying a ronin knot is use a sharpie to help with the loops. With a cheaper sageo you may want to try something thinner. I'm going to be doing a video on the ronin knot in the next couple of months.

@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 5 жыл бұрын
No problem! Length really depends on your style but I generally don’t like sageo longer than 7’. By the way piece of advice, make sure the sageo is made of either silk or cotton. Chemical fiber/synthetic silk is a horrible sageo material in my experience, they tend to kink really bad, fray, run or they are just entirely too stiff and they are really hard if not impossible to soften up.
