****Setting it up*****
Technically you can do this effect transition with any DJ software. But for this tutorial we’re going to use the DDJ-RB with Rekordbox DJ
So we’re going to do 3 types of transitions
1. Vinyl Break
2. Echo Out
3. Backspin
And we’re going to use record box DJ’s PAD FX to do it:
Let’s set it up:
Let’s start with the vinyl break transition
1. Click Hot Cue
2. Select Pad FX
3. Click the tool icon so that we can edit
4. Then click any section
3. Now Select RELEASE FX
4. And then select V. Brake
5. Now we set the beat to 4/1
6. And finally make sure that the HOLD option is set to ON
Let’s now do the Echo Out PAD FX transition SHOW
Select another empty space,
Select release fx
Select ECHO
Then make sure that the beat is set to 1/2
And that the hold option is set to ON
And finally let’s set up the backspin PAD fx transition
Select another empty space,
Select release fx
Select backspin
Then make sure that the beat is set to 4/1
And that the hold option is set to ON
To activate the PAD FX, all you guys gotta do is select PAD FX on your controller then click the button where you just made your custom PAD FX Release transition.
To deactivate click the same button again.
And you are good to go.
You now have 3 easy PAD FX release transitions in your arsenal for mixing.
***Application***
The trick to making this transition sound good are 2 things:
1. Timing
2. The recognizability or intro of your next song
when the beat slows down or echoes out, try to play the next song in time with the effect.
Scratching and drumming can also help
SHOW
Also make sure that the next song is recognizable, or at least has a cool intro. For maximum audience impact
***When to use it***
This is a great and easy way to transition to any song or any genre, because you are stopping the music in a way the audience can understand.
It just sounds natural for them to hear an echo , a backspin or a song slow down.
For me this is one the best and easiest ways to transition out really quickly
especially in emergencies like when you realize that your current song is ending and you haven’t properly beat matched the next song,
or when you want to change genre,
or when you want to switch to another song that has a very different bpm than your current song.

watching this old one and thinking I wasn't going to learn anything new and then you hit me with the custom settings adjustment at 1:50 and just blew my mind! I knew there had to be a way to custom map certain fx to pads and 3 years into rekordbox, I still hadn't met anyone who knew. Thanks again!

Gold! i used to think transitions could only be done with matching bpm, but that can not always be the case if you are playing for a very diverse crowd. Love them effects on Rekordbox DJ ~

Because they absolutely are! Technically, "EDM" is the overall name for the genre (anything electronic), but house (and it's many sub genres), progressive, electro, futurebass, etc are all very different genres! It runs super deep.

This is the main reason why when i was choosing a controller i chose this controller because of it's support for rekordbox DJ well at that time it was developing till this day and i have this thinking that it indeed would change the way on how we can get those transitions clean since they were new at that time and it had the potential to be expanded so quickly than the other dj software from DVS support to Video support and having unique effects Rekordbox DJ did really paid off of its potential for me and im impressed that you found out this method to have a seamless transition from a large amount of difference of bpm between two tracks hehe i might use this same technique that you have shown in this video keep on experimenting every controller that you have it can lead you to make something different from what we play in gigs and the like. This video has been useful for me again another infromative video straight from DJ Carlo! Keep the fire lit Bro!!! 😃

Great! I have a good one for you. I'm new to DJing, so even if I may not be doing anything new under the sun, I'm doing things that I haven't seen any other djs doing and I look at tons of videos. On Serato there is an Echo Spiral up and Echo Spiral down effect in one of the fx packs. One can transition to an extremely higher or extremely lower bpm by using that effect.. EG: low to high.. push the Spiral Echo effect on the part you want to echo out.. lower the fader all the way or use the cross fader to fade over to the other track that you have at the ready.. use the knob above the spiral effect to speed up that echo and when you get it in the range of what you feel is near the bpm of the ready track you can punch in the ready track and unpunch the spiral echo button.
