When A/Bing effects don't stop and start the clip, keep playing and turn the effect on and off it makes it easier to actually notice the difference, kinda like what you did at the end!

But this will fix an already OK sounding DI. If anyone here has problems with making their DI's sound brighter 1. change your strings 2. change your strings 3. clean your strings WITH DISH SOAP, I REPEAT, DISH SOAP. BOILING YOUR STRINGS ONLY WORKS FOR BASS, NOT GUITARS. 4. put a high shelf above 7k, because you want the air that new guitar strings have as generally if you boost a bit lower you will start boosting some quack and glassiness (unless that is what you want 5. if your guitar sounds bright but the decay is immediate, destroy your signal with compression and mix that in with the dry signal. 6. if you have too much noise with the 5th trick, use a low latency multiband compressor separating your low end, mid and high end as to only compress your low end for sustain 7. If your noisegate is still trash and let's a fuck load of noise when you stop playing, use an 'spectral' noise gate that detects your noise by analyzing your signal.

I genuinely prefer the sound of the guitars WITHOUT the octave effect, it felt like the tone became muddy and lots of unwanted harmonics were introduced, it sounded very artificial. Perhaps it's just my ears...
@MattAfterlife
@MattAfterlife 3 жыл бұрын
Nah sounded much better
@Silverjerk
@Silverjerk 3 жыл бұрын
Not your ears, just very subjective. I prefer the octave effect; it gave the track some body and subtly changed the character, making it a bit darker without, say, shifting the entire guitar track back an octave -- I've seen engineers do this to try and emulate 7 or 8 string guitars when the original recording was made with a non-baritone 6-string. Unfortunately, something just gets missed and you're never going to get the same tone, attack, and character you'd get from having a real 7-string. That's not to say a 6-string can't sound heavy as fuck, just that it's hard to get it all the way there in the DAW. This trick does add some umph that just wasn't there before, and I liked the effect.

With the intention that I'd yield a much better sounding clean & crispy clean tone, I more or less implemented this same tactic to my DI signal by using the Pawn Shop Compressor! This particular comp plugin also offers the ability to further alter the timbre by changing the 'component materials', like the transformer & resistor metal types, along with adjusting the voltage bias and output! Man... doing all that prior to hitting a Neural DSP sim resulted in precisely the type of harmonically rich, and compressed clean gtr tone I was after, while still keeping processor consumption to a minimum!

I use Focusrite Control to route my first two outputs through my third output, which feeds into my reamp box. I use the output preset in Focusrite Control called System Playback. This way I'm able to channel my stems through my reamp box but the problem is that I have to solo the stem Channel in Reaper and mute the monitor in my miced channels, otherwise the entire mix comes out of the reamp box and out of my speakers.

What I found helped me was to use a asio driver . In the daw made input and output to the interface used headphone via the interface. Made my guitar tone 100% better. And now when I mix down to MP3 sounds the same as the daw. Hopefully if your trying to fix your tone this might help . It did for me.

sweet video thanks! I had a good time running the recap portion on repeat at different volumes trying to pinpoint what exactly things were adding to everything. I learned a lot thank you. Edit: I feel like I'm crazy, but just the EQ part almost feels like there was some stereo spread added. Do you have any videos on solving windows PC EMI / Ground noise through monitors? Constant hissing noise after sustained notes or sticatto cant figure out what the issue is, could be coil whine from GPU or god knows what, all i know is a MAC fixed the problem but i dont have one... maybe a ground conditioner and a shunt ground could fix?

Hi Joey! I see you guys using Reaper in your videos and you seem to have a lot of cool extensions going on! Are these all from the SWS? Did you do some of them on your own? I managed to find the skin you're using, which is one of the best IMO, but it took me.. Some time...... A quick video showing your Reaper setup and how we couls get there would really help me (and other people too I hope) and save me a looot of time just searching for those thing. If I need to search, I will, but if I can save time, well, who doesn't want to save time? Big love to you and your team! I sincerely really love what you guys are doing for the community! 🖤👊🏼
