what about A Clockwork Orange, Wl Topo or Blue Velvet? Do people relate to Alex? Is he likable? Is peeping Tom Jeffrey from Blue velvet likable? El Topo definitely isn't likable ... maybe relatable to killers? I find I don't beed yo like a character but my favourite movies' characters aren't even necessarily relatable actually I guess Jeffrey is relatable... who isn't a bit of a peeping Tom?

The “not so great stuff" in crazy stupid love was the chefs kiss imo. I don't understand why she thinks it's not the greatest direction, steve carells character was written really well and I wouldn't change a thing. It goes to show you can't please everyone.

This is exactly how I try to explain why I love villians and in almost everything I watch the villian is my favorite. 99% of the time The villian isn't somebody I would actually like in real life but in the show/movie they make the character so well or they show you enough of the character that you can understand them. Like Neagan in walking dead, obviously in real life nobody would like him (at least the way he is during the present time of the show) but he is one of my favorite characters in anything I've ever watched. You can tell right away that there are layers and backstory to the character and you can tell even though he's doing horrible things that at one point he was no different from rick. (And arguably they aren't even that different when they meet we just see them different because we've been following rick the whole time) As soon as neagan showed up he reminded me of shane, a tragic story of someone who was once a good guy but you could tell that the new world with walkers and everything was just too much or it all changed too quickly and it broke something in them.

This is a fantastic channel. Great insights. It helps me flesh out either ideas I might have had about how a film works, or introduced new concepts completely. Even Conigitive Behavioural THerapy techniques - the senior dude with the cap - adapting the famous 'downward arrow' to get to the 'emotional basis'. Very interesting. I have never watched terrrestial telly for - well especially since lockdown started. Never will I return.

It all starts with a good logline. Interesting character wants to achieve something interesting but there are nasty obstacles. Once you have that, the story flows on its own. The protagonist doesn't have to be likeable; Indiana Jones is a real jerk. The old school term was sympathetic character which I think fits.
