for 2020 wrx owners, Subaru changed both drug and fill plugs go on the rear diff. transmission into H10(drain) & 17mm(fill). fyi, both relocated from back side to passenger side.

Thanks! Over the years have changed many rear end fluids and also manual trans fluids. On your WRX you used 75w90 from Subaru, is there any reason you didn’t use Pennzoil or Castrol or similar? You didn’t show the back of your bottle so I could see the ratings, that would have helped. Your fluid looked clear, I suspect that it is synthetic? Thanks....Jim PS.....with the dip stick and fill plug on the rear end, did you ever check fluid prior to 36,000 miles? I would think you would check at least every 3rd oil change (15k).

Hey, thanks for the informative tutorial!! Just want to check and see if your WRX came with any crush washers or gaskets for the front or rear differential drain or fill plugs? I’ve seen some videos stating that they’re required so I wanted to double check. Thanks!
@evlx143 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching!The rear diff had no washers on either plug. The transmission does have a washer, I just reused the same washer.
@clintonross16493 жыл бұрын
@@evlx14 Thank you, my friend! Appreciate the advice you’re sharing with us. I’m considering possibly reusing the washer now then replacing it when I reach the 60k service instead.

why was there so much pouring out of the fill plug in the rear diff? too much oil was in there from last fill maybe?

The book says replace brake fluid/clutch. and you replaced the diffs and trans fluid. did i miss something here. Now the book also says to inspect the trans fluid and if bad top off or replace.
@evlx142 жыл бұрын
Clutch and trans fluid is the same fluid. They are both drained and filled from the same single locations respectively. 🙌
@llryuujinll2 жыл бұрын
@@evlx14 clutch fluid is the same as the brakes, it comes from the master cylinder. It's the thing that pushes on the clutch fork when you depress the clutch pedal. It uses the same fluid as the brakes. And it literally says brakes and clutch fluid, not trans and diff, that item was a little higher.
@evlx142 жыл бұрын
@@llryuujinll You got me there! Correct. I should have said, the transmission and front differential take the 75w-90 gear oil (same resivor). I had the brake fluid flushed and I went with Motul Dot 5.1.

So is it the front differential or a transmission because everybody calls it the differential
@evlx142 жыл бұрын
The front fill is for the transmission and front differential. One fill for them both. Same fluid as the rear differential. 👌

If standard is it the same as 2016 wxr sti
@evlx143 жыл бұрын
From what I understand, it is pretty much the same process on the 2015+ STI. Also 75w90 oil.

@edwingrodriguez24383 жыл бұрын
75 w90 is only for gear differential no for the transmission ,transmission oil CVT transmission it doesn't have a number
@evlx143 жыл бұрын
I have a manual transmission so the transmission fluid also takes 70w 90, the same as the rear differential. 👍 CVT fluid for the automatic transmission would probably be different.

Thanks for checking out the video! At the time of the fluid change I just decided to go with OEM Subaru fluid. If I was to do it again I would go with Motul 75w90 as I've read the most positive reactions from it as an improvement over stock fluid. I tried to find a screenshot of the back of the bottle with description but couldn't easily find one. I'll post the Amazon listing. I hadn't checked it prior to the change. www.amazon.com/dp/B0731SB4M3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_7FCBM8DBWHXXWMG50TKE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
