Keren, thanks for all the options for texture! For those just watching this: the expensive texture pastes are nice, but you can create the same effect with spackeling paste or joint compound from your hardware store, at a fraction of the cost. Check out other KZbin videos describing how to use them in conjunction with other mediums for the same effect. Also, you can replace gesso with inexpensive flat white paint from your hardware store.

In place of the expensive 'art stones' use perlite. You get in the gardening dept and a big bag only costs a few dollars! I got mine in the gardening dept at Walmart and an 8 qr bag cost $6. Perlite is a lightweight round 'stone' you mix with potting soil to keep the soil light and airy.

Hi Keren. I’m a newbie to mixed media and are watching many of the KZbin videos. Yours are by far the best. You give excellent demos and talk to your viewers about what you are doing and suggest. So important because most of these videos are music and sped up so I don’t know what is going on. I really enjoyed your videos on the different gesso, modeling pastes, etc. So Keren Tamir, thank you very much. Your KZbin page is a “must subscribe “ to anyone interested in mixed media.

Have you tried dryer lint? Ed depending on what color laundry you are doing you can get neat colors. Another idea is use caulking in the silicone molds it is much sturdier. I heat oven to lowest temp, fill the molds and put them in the oven to speed dry time. Jus t don't use pure silicone in them it will stick.i use cheap caulk fro dollar tree. Ali express is a great place to get them with free shipping, no tax it just takes 3-4 weeks to arrive from china. They have Stencils less than $1.00 each for the small ones.

I don't know how they compare cost-wise, but there are texture combs for frosting/icing made by Wilton that look similar to the ones you're using for paint/gel. I have also scrunched up aluminum foil and used that to "stamp" onto my surface. Since it's rigid, the marks it makes tend to look more like crackles. Also, I've been using painter's tape (the blue stuff) for masking; it peels off cleaner, and I use a sewing pin to pry up one corner for removal, poking it gently into the tape without disturbing what the tape is stuck to. Thanks for so much inspirational content!
@KerenTamir2 жыл бұрын
yes I think those combs are very similar and I do love all those ideas. honestly there's just so many things you can use from around the house, garage or even nature. the possibilities are endless.

Trinity, Somehow I can't reply to your comments as it blocks me. It could be something in your Google + settings. So I'm replying here. Modelling paste is smooth while texture paste is rough to create texture. It may have sand or something gritty in it. You can also create texture with modelling paste using it through a stencil for example but the surface will be smooth while texture paste will be rough. There's also crackle paste which makes cracks. In terms of the tape you could use to create a honeycomb like texture. my only concern would be removing the tape without ripping it. However you could use it without removing the sticky part or using the backing as a stencils. you can peel off the backing and use it as well in your projects.

Awesome vid! These are not extras, rather free alternatives... If you open the little silica packets that come in medicines, they contain either little beads, or some look like the little stones you were using. Also, you can pull the wire out of old spiral notebooks. I've also cut apart old handbags when they are worn out, there is always little metal parts on them I keep, even the zippers. I also mix sand in with paint. Finally, I find spakfilla a cheaper product than some art mediums, as it's in bulk at the hardware.
