What other clients have you found to be good starting out as a bookkeeper? I'm going to be doing a series this month on the more "complex" niches. I've filmed videos on attorney bookkeeping and non-profit bookkeeping... which other niches are you interested in? (medical, construction, restaurant, other?)
@meganwhitney99443 жыл бұрын
Landscaping without construction is really straight forward! Also spa services are generally simple if they have a good POS in place. im interested in real estate bookkeeping and find lots of mixed reviews how to set up the books. You could do a video on your favorite books and resources as a business owner and bookkeeper. and also on your favorite systems platforms (gusto, bill.com, square, Tsheets, etc and how they all play in together as a whole)

I got my fourth client a couple weeks ago and it’s a gym, run by the owner and all the coaches are paid as contractors, super simple! I also did a Quickbooks setup for a family farm that was pretty easy. My third client is a wedding florist! So you’re right about that one! I have a question though: what is the bookkeeping like for a franchise business?? I’ve wondered if I should approach my local businesses that are franchises or if they just get all of it done by the corporate level?

Great video Morgan. I actually look for many of these same clients that have employees. Before that, my experience is they still feel they can handle the books themselves. They keep track of receipts, income maybe mileage on spreadsheets. Once they hit the trip wire of employees tho, that tends to open them up to considering accounting help. I take on any payroll and outsource it to a wonderful full service payroll processing company, include it in my pricing. The payroll company handles the processing and sends me any premium price I charge the client over my base rate. I agree, stay away from anyone with inventory or construction outfits that have a lot of work in process and job cost accounting issues. Should def have some experience before tackling those. You summed it up pretty nicely. Also people in the trades (plumbers, electricians, etc.) with 1 - 5 employees are great too and we can really help them a great deal with their business.

Great tips, thanks so much for sharing! I agree that a lot of people try to do their own books at the beginning--good observation that gaining employees is a kind of trigger to hire a bookkeeper.

Can you add in a subscription for QBOContractor edition? The job costing is not that difficult to break down and run payroll per project from QB. I ran 150 employees weekly payroll out of it.
@a.e.62978 ай бұрын
How much do you usually charge your clients?
@markwilliams30688 ай бұрын
@@a.e.6297 IT DEPENDS, anywhere from $245 per month (my minimum) up to $3,500 per month. Depends upon their size, complexity and what services they need me to handle. When I started I asked this question of others a few times and got frustrated when people would say "it depends". But it is like asking how much does a car cost - well it depends. New or used, Ford or Ferrari, perfect condition or needs work? You get my drift. So the more important question is how can I get in front of prospects and present a price they and I can accept?

I specialize in construction. Currently have three construction companies, one is s-corp commercial construction company. And one real estate client. Fun life. I never ever consider crafters, florists and photographers. Maybe I should, it would be easy for me probably after tackling commercial construction company.

Hello! I am currently working towards a bookkeeping certificate. This is my last semester. My husband is a Construction general contractor which is one of the reasons I decided to pursue this career. My plan is to work with other construction contractors as I get comfortable doing his books. We are in the initial stages of getting everything set up in quickbooks online. Do you have any recommendations or guidance you can give? Is quickbooks online even an ok fit for this industry?
@natalyasni2 жыл бұрын
@@sherrymorris4134 Congratulations. I would say yes it is. However, it all depends on what your husband's needs are. Is he a builder with multiple construction projects or a commercial developer who keeps track of expenses per project? Does he have multiple construction loans that are being drawn on a regular basis? How complex are his bids and invoices? Do they need to have a disclosure or notices? How complex is his change orders if any? All these items are tracked easier in the desktop version, I would recommend Enterprise. But if he is a small company with a specific nitch (siding, tile, roofing, ei) then the online version is enough. I have builders and contractors on each platform. I prefer online, but I can not imagine doing online work for my commercial developer, for him we use desktop. Having said that, payroll online is easier and more advanced. I have been switching all my desktop users to payroll online, all I do after I run payroll is manually enter payroll expense into their QBD. Years of practice will get you there. Don't give up.

@@natalyasni thank you for your reply! He is just a small LLC. He does commercial remodels and may be building a home for someone soon. He as a few people that help him from time to time. He 1099’s them. He is looking to hire a couple people here soon. He sure could use the extra hands. I help out on job sites as much as possible. He does not have any loans. He basically gives the estimate. Gets the money for the materials up from with a 10% markup. Then starts the job. Depending on the length of the job he will have have clients pay in small lump sums throughout until completion. Most of his materials come from Home Depot, Lowe’s or 84 lumber. He does bathroom remodels, decks, additions. Just about anything however when it comes to electric and more extensive plumbing he subs that out. We both liked the idea of online so that way he could snap receipts after each material or tool purchase. Hope all that helps.

I was recently hired as an employee by an HOA(10-hours a week), have you ever worked with them? Any advice? I only agreed to be hired as an employee because I am just getting started and didn’t think it would hurt to just get the experience while I’m starting everything.
