I am looking for my first own car and I suddenly fell in love to this w140 mercedes. What do you think, should I buy s280 1997? It used to be diplomatic vehicle and it is all black. Sadly it has no electric seats or sunroof either. 180 000 km driven and it is also well-kept and maintained. Asking price was 6500€ This would be reliable and economical due to small engine. Should I get it? If I really like the car, I could get one more expensive with all sweat accessories 😜
@HLClassics2 жыл бұрын
Choose one with the options that you prefer. Unless it is a diplomatic vehicle with rare options such as bullet resistant glass and flag poles, you would be better off searching for a W140 with the exact specifications that you are looking for.

The engine electronics are generally robust. The electronics for the comfort features can be somewhat of a headache, simply because there are so many comfort features. Not difficult to sort out one by one, but neglected cars often have a long list to repair.

The top compartment locks directly with the locking assembly. Put in the key, turn 45 degrees, stick a thick wire or a thin allen key into the little groove on the locking cylinder and it should slide out (don't pull the key out while the cylinder is out!!!). Down the hole is a philips screw. Unscrew that and the whole locking assembly should come out. Look for anything broken with the top latch. Have fun.

nice vid, depending on options these model can hav parking sensors, xenon ligths, electronic suspension, rear antenas for rear parking aid and much more. i have one S320 since 1993 with 6.000 kms and i will try to keep.
@KP-zi6jx8 ай бұрын
The w140 kept evolving...some things added and/or taken away, depending on the year. Like when rear parking sensors were added, you mentioned, the rear parking aid antennas were no longer offered/needed of assist backing up. The U.S. versions got Xenon's w/integrated driving lamps and rain sensing wipers w/the last '97 revision...plus full body color (no longer gray at the bottom), slimmer restyled ext. rear view mirrors, clear front and rear turn signals, deeper/sportier 6-hole wheels, glass sunroof instead of metal, and a 5spd auto trans. I have a '97 last revision, and bc I wanted all those updates. Over time, the w140 lost the storage in the flip-up front door armrests, the power interior rear view mirror lost it's power option (so it no longer was part of the seat memory pre-set function to change w/each seat memory). The dizzying array of heat/ac front console buttons were replaced w/the digital unit seen here, I think w/the '95 mid-cycle refresh, which brought the rounded trunk corners (like the C140 Coupe) and 1st revision tail lights, and the lower body cladding was revised w/the added belt line around it to make it appear less bulky and slab sided. That's the biggest things, some smaller I'm sure I've overlooked.

@Radi0he4d13 жыл бұрын
Wasn’t that a feature on the later model yes?
@randkamza12063 жыл бұрын
@@Radi0he4d1 The older w140s have that. 92 to 94 or 95 in the US market. After that, they got rid of it and parking sensors became an option. The w140 did cust cutting measures midway into it's production run. The interior quality is higher in the older ones. For example, newer ones have armrests on all four doors, pretty good quality. Older ones have the small armrest, but it's very thick, and on a siff hinge and it opens for storage. Probably the hardest, thickest feeling set of hinges I have ever felt in any interior piece on any car.
