Those of us that need it DO have a lot more options because of the fad diet, which is awesome! But we also run it to a lot more skepticism from people, and I find that sometimes restaurants don't take me seriously because they think I'm just doing it as a fad. I need them to take me seriously because if they're not careful, and decide that, for example, picking the croutons out of the salad is "good enough" I'll be sick for a week if I don't notice. I have seen them try and do stuff like that before.

Guys. Gluten is not bad for you unless you have a gluten intolorence. Before you ask what reasearch i did for this, my mother is a nutritionist, my stepmother is nutritionist, and my sister is a nutritionist. Your body can process gluten! one of the upsides to the gluten-free trend is that people who are actually intolerant to gluten have way more options. my brother hasn't had gluten in years and he said that this trend, as much as people may find it useless, has really made a difference in terms of what's available for him now!
@buntcakeproductions9 жыл бұрын
Hélène S.G. That's how I look at it. I have been gluten-free for 11 years it has been easier the past 5 or 6 years because there are a lot more gluten-free options that taste good. yes!so true! I voluntarily went on a 30day GF diet (few more days to go!) because I have many autoimmune & gut issues(negative for celiac) and trying to see if helps to eliminate gluten. So far, I've noticed I've reduced my sugar cravings (and I'm a baker!) and hardly ever eat junk food! Either I eat fruits or just not hungry... I mostly make my own food so I avoid those prepared processed GF stuff... so far lost almost 5lbs ... my mood is strangely better since I've felt really depressed for months b4...not sure if being GF helped, but if so, great! I do miss having regular breads for subs,pizza,etc...but idk, I may extend this a lil longer...

You guys have the pleasure of going back to gluten, where those of us who have celiac disease do not. we have to live with those adjustments and deal with poor substitutes to things we love, like pizza crust. the only thing I can say, is that I'm glad Aldi has a great line of gluten free products that very much taste a lot like the real thing. But as someone who's been struggling with (finally being diagnosed) celiac for almost 8 months, it does get easier. Though the thing I would have liked to see in this was not the things people couldn't have, but emphasis on the OTHER things they could. Or finding products that were similar so that you built it up instead of making it a hurtle to jump over.

unless you have celiac disease, gluten-free diet in itself is pretty pointless. Obviously, alot of calorie-rich foods like cupcakes, pizza contain gluten so if you cut it out, youre obviously gonna lose weight. the point is to just control your diet overall and exercise. its not bad to eat bread in a controlled manner as long as you don't overdo it, you won't gain weight. oh, and EXERCISE is key as well
@abbylehr20609 жыл бұрын
being gluten free even when you don't have celiac is pretty easy, awesome, and is not pointless. having the option to eat cupcakes and pizza and gluten enriched foods means that you only have self control to rely on and that isn't easy for some people, when you cut it out of your diet and get rid of the foods that have gluten from your fridge or pantry, it's and extra kick in the butt to be healthier and make better choices. I'm 13 and I have been struggling with my weight for a while and this has made me feel better and more healthy. I definitely recommend it.

+TheRealSauron G Gluten isn't like cholesterol or fat. Gluten is a protein, and will be digested just like other proteins unless you have celiac disease. It never makes it to the bloodstream.
@awesomemarina8 жыл бұрын
mia morris Yes, this is true of those with celiac disease. However, celiac disease REALLY only affects around 1‰ or less of the population, and there exists mounds of evidence from reputable scientific communities that non-celiac gluten sensitivity or gluten allergy is a baseless fad riding on the coattails of people who are actually sick. Removing gluten from your diet for health reasons is pointless unless you actually have celiac disease THAT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A REAL DOCTOR.

I realized I was gluten intolerant (stomach upset, allergic reactions) and have started cutting out gluten the last 3 weeks. I've lost 16 pounds so far! I was really denying this issue for so long because I was meant to feel like its very rare/not real. I wish I had been listening to my body since I started noticing symptoms 10 years ago.
@malaikawilliam98602 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it got diagnosed. Same thing happened to me, I was neglecting the symptoms for almost 6 years and recently I got a proper checkup. Turns out I had celiac all long which some of the medical practitioner diagnosed as IBS. I have also lost weight since cutting down gluten, my hunch is the decrease in weight is due to the excessive bloated GI tract.

As a coeliac this video is SO frustrating to watch! There's no solid evidence to suggest that eating gluten free has any benefit unless you're coeliac or intolerant. It's not a joke or a 'one month challenge'. For a hell of a lot of people it's a day to day struggle. Cross contamination wasn't even mentioned in this video, which is a huge barrier for people who ACTUALLY can't consume gluten. Ridiculous.

The gluten can be absorbed into your skin. I was being tested for celiac's once so I had to do research and change a bunch of stuff. Luckily I don't have it, but gluten is in a lot of stuff. Including certain brands of gum!

This is a personal decision that each of us can make, but science indicates that gluten in shampoo and cosmetics is not a threat to those with celiac disease - except for those that may be easily ingested, like lipstick or potentially hand lotion. Researchers have found that unless you have a deep and open wound, gluten cannot absorbed through the skin making topical items acceptable for use. (A quick reminder: don’t forget to wash your hands after applying a gluten-containing hair or cosmetic product to avoid any unintentional ingestion.) If you have a reaction to a cosmetic or toiletry, consider an alternate culprit like an allergic reaction.

I found this video annoying because it felt like the whole tone of the video was emphasizing how hard being on a gluten-free diet can be and there was no mention of the wide range of brands that exist, that many restaurants have gluten-free options, etc. I am 26 and I have been gluten-free because I have celiac disease since I was 14 and YES being completely gluten-free is hard and inconvenient but there are so many options out there to eat. I would like to know what brands they were eating because not all GF food is good, but Schar, Udis, Glutino, Three Bakers, Katz and Kinnikinnick are just a fraction of really good gluten free brands that does everything from bread, muffins, donuts, cookies, prepared meals, etc. Also, companies like Pillsbury, Tyson, General mills, Bertolli and Kraft all have gluten free products and most grocery stores like Aldis, Trader Joes, etc have a store brand GF products.

If you do not have a gluten sensitivity or celiacs you will not see a change, except that you have spent more money on gluten free foods. Gluten free food also tends to have extra sugar in it. I know people with celiacs and gluten sensitivity/intolerance, they pay the price big time if they eat it it.

+African Grey Parrot You won't be healthier unless you have one of the above mentioned conditions. And these people lost weight because they couldn't find enough food to eat since they had no guidance and didn't cook at home. As I said, gluten free comes with more sugar added.. that is not healthier or better for you. However, if someone does have one of those conditions it is imperative that they find gluten free options because it causes them a variety of health problems. Swapping donuts made with wheat flour with donuts made with rice flour is not magically healthier for you. And those with the gluten issues also have to skip things like beer due to the barley.

I tried it and it didn't magically help me lose weight or any of the other magical properties people purport the gluten-free lifestyle to imbue. I will say that as a travel photographer - when I am in France I tend to lose weight despite eating TONS of bread. The reason for that is that the bread there is far less processed and most importantly most of it doesn't include all of the hidden sugar in American bread. Which also brings me to a point that many gluten-free breads are PACKED with sugar :(.

He also has a condition called eosinophilic oesophogitis, which is similar to celiac, except when he eats something he is allergic to, his immune system attack his esophagus, which damages it over time. He could eventually need to have a feeding tube in. People act like being gluten free, vegan or vegetarian is the end of the world, but it really isn't. There is always someone else worse off than you are. While both you and my brother suffer, at least the two of you aren't allergic to water. I'm vegetarian going vegan by choice, and while it's hard, and while it isn't impossible, it isn't easy either, but again, not the end of the world. I can still eat oreos and chocolate for now, i can have all the fruit I want, and chips and all sorts of nice things.

gluten doesn't make any difference in health. there are people who actually have celiac (and it is a relatively rare condition) these are the only people who benefit from a gluten-free diet. any "changes" they experience in this is simply placebo effect at work. or other factors that have nothing to do with gluten intake.

I was diagnosed with Lupus a couple years ago and since I started just limiting my gluten intake I found that my flare ups became less of an issue and I sometimes barely remember I have it. Im going to try to go completely gluten free because I was just diagnosed with Hashimotos. To anyone who is going through a similar situation know that the fight is long but the road to feeling good again will lead to sweet victory. Sadly we dont have a cure for Lupus (nor do I think we do for Hashimotos) but it doesn't mean you should give up hope or stop fighting!❤

i honestly feel like a lot of buzzfeed ppl struggle with the food changes because they are so used to BUYING all their food and not cooking their own things? i tried lowering my intake of gluten for a while to see if thats what was causing my IBS and it isnt THAT hard...like yes it can be annoying but you can cook a perfectly good healthy filling meal that has basically no gluten..

yeahhhh but you need money for that. gluten free isnt cheap. i would gladly go whip something up. im getting tested for celiac about next month too by my doctor. i normally avoid gluten myself as much as i can becuase i know if i eat bannanas instead il feel better. but then i get hungry and eat whatever i have in the house because im always hungry. my brother works at a coffe shop and brings home tons of pastries and thats normally all there is to eat too.
@argbarb88 жыл бұрын
aww thank you!!! to be honest i have boiled it down to stress...it acts up the most with stress.. i tend to buy lactose free dairy products cause i just dont like unsweetened almond milk and buying it sweetened just defeats the purpose of it being healthier. I lead a very active life style (With some luls but you know as is life) so i havent been able to see food wise what causes it (i know sometimes dry pasta does so thats why i went gluten free for a bit...but it affects me sporadically) so im guessing its emotional : /
@avivamae51718 жыл бұрын
Food is definitely part of it but you're spot on, emotions and stress play just as big if not more of a role in things. =) You can eat perfect but if you're stressed it ruins everything. It sounds like you're doing awesome, good for you! I live in France and I'm vegan and the food choices in the grocery stores aren't that great so I make most things from scratch (even when I wasn't vegan I had too) but after searching for ages I finally found almond milk which happens to be unsweetened. If I'm having it by itself or with a non-sweetened cereal I add a tiny bit of Cassonade sugar and it fixes everything. Cassonade sugar is pretty similar to "sugar in the raw" in the states but it has larger granules and I think it's less refined and a tiny bit really goes a long way. A lot of people also make their own non-dairy milks and cheeses too. I've had some amazing nut cheeses! (I know it sounds gross or weird but they are amazing!) It's really about what you like and feel works for you. Something I've noticed about IBS is everyone has different food triggers so it's hard to know what will work for someone food wise but emotions always play a role (a well as physical stress on the body like chronic pain). Have an awesome day and keep up the good work, Cheers! =)

I have one friend who is gluten intolerant (not celiac, but incredibly allergic), and I cannot stand how much she criticizes everyone around her for not also being gluten free. I tried it for a while, almost half a year in fact. I gained weight, felt more tired, and became mildly intolerant to gluten myself. I've since switched back, slowly adding it back into my diet, and I'm much better off. If you want to lose weight and gain energy, just do a low-carb diet (or really any diet you can follow that limits your calories and sugar intake) and exercise. I've found it's way easier to do both together than just one or the other, as exercise helps curb your hunger while dieting helps manage your energy. Anyway, the point is, I get the frustration of people who need to be gluten free. I understand why it's so important for you, but please don't be like my friend and claim baselessly that no one in the world should eat gluten ever. A lot of the science around the gluten free craze is junk science.
@cucumbermonkey16839 жыл бұрын
Agreed. A gluten free diet should only be for people who literally CANNOT eat gluten.
@alexaalvarez74769 жыл бұрын
StyxTBuferd Honestly so true. Gluten free diets should only be for the people that can't eat it without getting sick. My brother was diagnosed with celiac a long time ago and we found out that if someone not intolerant to it goes on the diet it really doesn't make anything better or healthier.
@spuffy5187229 жыл бұрын
StyxTBuferd totally agree! I'll never understand the people who continue to push gluten-free on non-celiac/intolerant people. Most times, it just causes them to lose the energy they were getting from carbs since they don't increase fruit/veg intake to offset the gluten-free products. An internet full of knowledge gone to waste -smh-

Being one of the 0.2% of people in North America that actually suffers from celiac disease( diagnosed in 1982) I can say that the reason you feel healthier is because you are eating a healthier diet by avoiding trying to avoid gluten. If you don't suffer from Celiacs disease you're body will not have troubles processing them, their are thousands of healthy foods with gluten in them. One good thing for me is with the hipster gluten free trend it sure is easier finding foods that I could only dream of eating 20 years ago.
