For one month I wore every piece of trash I created, while living just like the average person.
Why? To show just how much our trash adds up, to create critical thought and positive change!

This has really made me pay attention to how quickly my recycling bin fills up. Trying to cut back on packaging.

I love this!! The effort, time, and dedication, to show that this is all very much a literal weight of waste on us and the Earth. This didn't just read or speak words like articles and other efforts, but it showed it and spoke it. 1 month, but add this up for a lifetime of a person, times however many BILLIONS of people. Varying amounts of waste, but essentially it all goes to the same place, to where we're having to use the oceans we have. That's sad 😔 I've been reducing, and am more motivated to be waste free, and continue to spread awareness and continue to do my part and always improve when able. I'd encourage everyone to at least attempt to make small changes and steps, and see how it makes you feel in the end. I mean... who likes trash anyway? What benefit is trash to us? Aside from taking up space where we can build a resort or just have as available space, farmed land, homes, etc.

Visuals are the only way we learn. Hopefully what you are doing makes a big difference, but only if you walk around corporate headquarters of food producers and packaging producers. I think these places should be responsible for the trash they produce, like Amazon.
@HueNarcisWorld
@HueNarcisWorld 2 жыл бұрын
The change is only going to come from the people. If you're waiting for the corporations to do something, you're just ignoring your own personal responsibility in changing your lifestyle.
@cynthiahofer2903
@cynthiahofer2903 2 жыл бұрын
Of course we have to make the changes and for me personally I have been trying to buy things totally unpackaged and in bulk but unless the corporations don't offer an alternative, what do we do? Take the packaging off in the store? I do not buy from Amazon but millions do. They could be responsible for recycling all the boxes and bubble wrap.
@HueNarcisWorld
@HueNarcisWorld 2 жыл бұрын
@@cynthiahofer2903 it is not required for you, or us in general to go the full length and boycott all packaging. However, making better choices where reasonably possible ( that means caring instead of being indifferent) will create a metric that will be seen by business and they will adapt. Nowadays demand is created by us following commercials, but we can create demand by using awareness and choice. Things will not change overnight but actually the hardest step is to make people care. The business will adapt fairly quickly. What they will not do is to change first.

This college moveout season I think is a good time to talk about dumpster diving for sustainability. There's definitely still waste that results from using products you get next to and in dumpsters, but it's less that the waste that was already there if you didn't get use out of the items. I've stocked up on cleaning supplies, snacks, instant meals, and other various ingredients, as well as a few furniture items I had use for, just from one evening of low-effort dumpster diving during the local university's moveout week. It's insane how many boxes of unopened food products get thrown away along with the mini-fridges and other furniture items (which are more likely to be salvaged for resale than the food). (Of course, the pre-consumer waste of perfectly usable products from grocery stores, bakeries, and restaurants is also a huge opportunity, but sadly often harder to access when places lock or restrict access to their trash.)

I watch people in other states dumpster-diving and recovering as much as they possibly can. Here we have closed systems. And the very few that have composting bins for their produce have produce that is better than half the other stores. I literally lived off of those produce bins for years! I was not able to grow or forage where I was. But then one night the police! Once you're told you cannot do it you have to be very careful. I had to stop and I have not eaten well since. I'm just very happy to see that some people can still do this in places where they don't even recycle let alone what they throw away

it is so sad that while there are people that do not have enough food, stupid rules and comfort prevent us from helping. I was in Afghanistan and all the leftover food from the military cantina was trashed at the end of the day. The risk that starving afgans were going to get food poisoning was too high !! But it also happens here in US, so much food is wasted

This looks like the body of a western diet. So not only does it show up in fat on the body this is what the fat made. Eat Whole Foods grow food and Pots if you have to. Just do do everything! Leave the big companies as far behind as possible. This is great because it truly looks like the typical rich animals field diet all over the body!

You're so right. I'm so tired of being told it's my fault when I do all I can but if I don't buy things in packaging I can't eat food. Even fruits and vegetables are being packaged these days. It's time to hold our government and companies accountable for the waste they are creating.
@baddriversofcolga
@baddriversofcolga 2 жыл бұрын
It's both a producer issue and a consumer issue. Do you need that Coke or coffee that comes in a single use container? Nope! But you get it anyway. That being said the only way to create massive change quickly is through regulations.
@flockenmedia7813
@flockenmedia7813 2 жыл бұрын
@@baddriversofcolga do I need a coke? No. Do I need 3 meals each day? Yes. Most of which comes in single use plastic that can not or will not be recycled - even if put into the recycling. Buying something which is my only option to be able to cook and eat my own meal is a necessity and it is not my fault or issue that I must buy it. I say again, I’m tired of being blamed for being a “poor consumer” when good options are few and far between. We need regulations on what is allowed to come in packaging and what that packaging is. Furthermore we need better regulations around and new recycling methods. Things should not only get recycled if it makes money. They should be recycled period.
@songlyon7795
@songlyon7795 2 жыл бұрын
Addendum: The government in the USA is run by the people. Lets start a grass roots rebellion. Collect all of your packaging and take it back back to the food store where it was forced upon us. If a whole city did this once a month, you can bet your arse things would change!
@baddriversofcolga
@baddriversofcolga 2 жыл бұрын
@@flockenmedia7813 I don't think anyone blames you for being a poor consumer when your only option is to buy food with packaging, but most people go well beyond that and buy tons of unnecessary stuff with unnecessary packaging.
