You are the definition its not about the hardware its about the shooter. the 18-55mm Is such a beautiful lens. I'm tempted to get the newest version because i dont shoot to much video. Either way beautiful shots! Keep up the great content :)

What is it exactly that wears out in the lens?

I’m not sure I think after a few months of use it just wears out, the focus and that is fine until the camera dies
