Welcome to day 3 of the 30 day yoga challenge. Today we are focusing on backbends with a 30 minute yoga flow for strength, flexibility and mobility. This class is for all levels, there will be options to modify postures to help you find what works for you.
In this class we are focusing on the spine as we work towards the peak pose of Wheel, also known as Urdhva Dhanurasana. This class includes postures that target the spinal erectors, abs, hip flexors, hamstrings and glutes to help you warm up for wheel pose. Don't worry if that sounds intimidating, I will offer lots of options so you can practice at your level.

please explain why do we rest with feet apart and knees touching, and not letting the knees also stay parallel over the feet

@@vijayshreerajawat7776 in this position it helps create more space in the lower back, decompressing the lumbar spine which can help after backbends.

The body is an amazing thing. Last February I could barely walk because my L5-S1 was so herniated & encroaching on my sciatic nerve. It was horrible & I almost needed surgery, but through a lot of hard work in physical therapy & taking better care of my body I cannot believe I just accomplished wheel pose pain free. Amazing! Thank you for this flow & series!

Ok, this series is excellent. I have been aware that I haven't really been progressing to some of the more challenging poses, but didn't know how to get from 0-60. This will do it! I almost got into wheel which is par for the course, but this made it clear that the issue is strength not flexibility. After the 30 days is over I will come back and do just this video for a week and I bet I will get it. THANK YOU!!

I've done my 200h YTT in 2018 and have really been neglecting yoga for the past years since I've seen it as a form of exercise, getting frustrated when I didn't exhaust myself and got all sweaty.. you really helped me to fall back in love with just practicing and being aware of how blissful my body feels afterwards.. thank you

i honestly didn't think i would be able to do a full wheel in this session, but i did! i held it for longer than i thought i could. i think this is the strongest i've ever felt. Thanks Charlie

I'm a few days behind on the series, but I wanted to say that I'm absolutely loving it. I've never before done a standing split until Day 1 eased me into it, and I had never even TRIED wheel until now. There was a moment there at the end when it came time to do the full wheel pose where I thought I wasn't able to do it, but then it felt like I got over the hurdle and my body just... went into it and I was able to hold it for the full duration! This was a really good workout and I feel so proud of myself for doing these new, more advanced poses. You're probably one of the best yoga channels on the website, you do videos of a variety of different lengths and skill levels, you're accommodating and welcoming but not to a patronizing degree, your voiceover is very calm and collected, and the aesthetics of every video are serene and beautiful. Thank you for all the content you put out, you've become a part of my daily routine and are a massive help to my mental and physical health

Charlie, where in the world are you located? It seems like when I join your videos, not only am I transported into an amazing yoga journey, but I'm also taken to an ethereal place that is almost always different, yet divinely, simply beautiful: an almost empty beach with the surf crashing in the distance; a dock extending out over a tranquil pond; an archway with majestic stone pillars; or even an indoor studio with floor length garage door windows and an ancient tree supervising through the glass. It's divine.

Wow... holidays came around and that shows... I was confortable in wild thing in december, and today I cannot hold it! Paradoxicaly, I felt amazing in wheel (I usually feel my lower back a little too much... so I avoid this pose). With your preparation I felt strong when I reached this peak pose. Thanks a million! And looking forward to the rest of the challenge!

Day 3 was very difficult for me. I was in pain today and could do little other than sleep. It's a little after 2am on January 4th, but I am proud of myself for persisting in spite of what ails me :)

Oh Charlie, I feel like crying. After years, YEARS of trying I was finally able to separate my head from the ground and hold wheel pose for a sec. Thank you for this one! I have been preparing myself for wheel for a long time now. I am not very bendy, so wheel has always been a challenge for me. But for the past 6 months, I have been learning yoga from you and now I find myself go upto stage 2 of wheel! Imagine that!! Years ago I had trouble with bridge pose, now I can do a camel well, a good wild thing which is one of my favorites and am happy beyond anything to progress towards wheel! This class blew my body! Literally, since I am also recovering from a respiratory illness! I can't be grateful enough to you Charlie! You really are the real deal when it comes to teaching yoga! Am waiting eagerly for the rest of the challenge! ❤

When I was a child it was so easy for me to do a backbend so it was interesting to rediscover what my body can do now at 31. I had to use a lot of the modifications that you gave but at the same time I was surprised at what my body can do. I'm excited to build my strength but also find the confidence as an adult to be able to do the different asana. Another wonderful class, Charlie!

I.did it! Tip: you need to study the moves form reverse wheel one by one reversing and repeating several times. Then try each step several times and it comes out! Reverse wheel!

Wow! Thank you for your time and energy Charlie! I've never done a back end before and was a bit hesitant if I could do this video. I had to watch the back end instructions a few times but I got it! I loved that you progressed into this, gave instructions and made this accessible for all levels. I was feeling low and wasn't going to do any workout but this 30day challenge has given me some motivation and I feel so accomplished and just good after this flow. Thank you!!!!

First time I tried wheel pose during one of your online classes I couldn't even get to the crown of my head. By now there's already some space in between the ground and my head. It's like you said in one of your shorts: "You have to continue to show up." I'm really exited about this challenge and I'm going to show up every day.

beautifully led practice! Wrist flexibility has negatively affected my ability to do wheel, a posture that gives me so much joy. Thank you for giving proper warm up and strengthening some time during your practices, it has really helped me and some day I might do wheel comfortably again!

I held wheel for three breaths! Thank you so much, I've been working on it for a few months in class but usually it's up for one breath and then a quick "oh no, get down"! Enjoying doing these classes on the days I'm not in the studio, you have a real clarity about the way you break down the postures. Very grateful!

So good! Quite challenging but I met my "appropriate edge" as yoga teachers say 😆💪 I actually videoed myself doing this one and wow! 1. I am proud of myself and 2. I reeeally need to watch out for my hypermobile elbows - I thought I was keeping a bend in them but I missed that cue several times including when I was in wheel. It's all learning! Thank you for your amazing teaching, Charlie!

Wheel was already in my practice, but I always tended to just muscle into it. Deconstructing it in this way and working in stages made it feel much more embodied, and honestly made me feel grateful for my body and what it can do. Amazing guidance. Thank you for the work you put into your classes.

This was wonderful- challenging but the sequences were perfect to build up to Wheel pose- never thought I’d be able to achieve wheel but your cues made this happen! Thankful for you and your channel! Best yoga practice!

Wow, that was a truly amazing exercise for my scoliosis. As a newbie, I want to improve my transition from the bridge to the wheel pose and overall my whole body strength. I hope that in the future you'll come up with other back-oriented workouts for the back. Great job as always Charlie, we deeply appreciate your sessions!

I’ve just completed day 3 (started the journey a little late) and I’m smiling ear to ear!! I haven’t attempted the wheel in years…this routine was brilliant and allowed me to feel properly warmed up and capable to try without fear of injury. And I did it!!! Not for five breathes, yet, but I’ll be doing this one again and again!! Thank you so much for this, Charlie! 💕

Hi Charlie! This challenge is my first time trying out yoga and even though I'm struggling, it's been super gratifying to get to the end of each practice knowing I did my best. This is just the right balance of challenging but not completely out of reach for a beginner like me. Thank you so much!

The one reason your channel is so good for yoga because you not only give modifications but you give really good instructions which is need for a person like me that isn’t good with coordinations ❤❤❤

this was soo good. I hadn't done Yoga in a few days and felt quite stiff and weak in this practice. But I still managed wheel (with head on the mat)!! I'm so amazed, I make so much progress with your practices!
