30 super carry vs 380 vs 9mm

So....30 super carry has the same diameter as .32 ACP (.312-inch) yet it is compared to .380 and 9mm which are .355-inch. Can we just call the super carry a ".32 magnum" of sorts?

One issue is not discussed and that is size restrictions on the 30 super carry. At the high working pressures of the 30SC it requires a locked breach system while the 380 ACP can, and usually is a straight blow back system. This allows the 380 to be produced on a smaller and lighter firearm such as a Ruger LCP. For concealment a far superior firearm in my opinion and with ammunition like the Hornady rounds I will stay with a 380. I will play with the 30SC especially in a full size auto to see its potential because I am a reloading junkie, but I will not be carrying one.

That was impressive. Illustrative of the differences, and food for thought for sure. I shoot the .380 Shield EZ as my preferred carry. I'm curious as to how you perceived the recoil of the two, compared to 9mm?

I have seen a lot of reviews, Some shot the EZ 9mm 30SC side by side and say that they dont feel any lighter recoil. Very few say a little. So recoil is almost the same if not the same as 9x19.

I think we all felt the 30 super carry would beat the.380 , I’m curious as to how it compares to the 9mm both in FMJ and hollow point.

The 30 super carry with a 100 gr bullet makes the same wound channel as the 9 mm and penetrates 2 to 5 inches deeper in ballistics gel both with 4 layers of denim and without. That is fbi protocol test. It out performs the 9mm especially when you factor in higher capacity in the same size pistol with a flush fit mag. In the shield plus you get 13 + 1 with the 30 super carry vs 10+ 1 with the 9mm 124 gr. I trust the 9mm as a self defense rd so I also trust the 30 super carry. There is no comparison to the 380 because the 30 super carry out performs it by leaps and bounds .

I own an m&p shield plus 30sc and it being such a small package I am still adapting to it's size and power. It felt like shooting my Glock 40 10mm longslide comparitively the lighter loads not the buffalo bore, the buffalo bore kicks

I'd bet it would make a very thin single-stack carry pistol. But that slide would need some mass, otherwise the recoil spring would be super stiff & hard to rack.

We knew going in 30SC was superior to 380. The question is can it be "equal enough" to 9mm to justify the switch. I carry a double stack wonder 9mm (Sig P365xl) - I don't "need" two more rounds. If they were equal to 9mm, 2 more would be nice to have, a want vs a need, but they're not equal to 9mm, they're less than. Which is why I wish you had done the 9mm too. As far as I can tell, the calculus is I have to use 13 inferior 30 SC rounds to get to my two extra 30SC bullets? Does 30SC have some other redeeming features? Is it going to be cheaper? Does it fix a problem 9mm has? If I were a 380 user, deciding to "upgrade" cartridges, why would I stop on 30SC and not proceed straight to 9mm? The (2?) extra rounds? Maybe, especially if I were a single stack 380 user - the extra rounds start to mean something. Having said all that, while I have not and would not carry a 380 (I started carrying with a SIG P938 9mm single stack), I would carry a 30SC - it's my new floor.

30sc will never beat a 9mm Para! It's. 31 caliber vs .355 caliber moving slower...and has no possibility of +p or +p+ in which the 9mm stomps all over 30sc....next!

I don't believe the 30SC is really meant to fill the gap between 380 and 9mm. It is as powerful as, if not more, than the 9mm. Does the manufacturer really mean what they say or are they trying to create a new round to compete with or replace the 9mm? Personally I will stick with the 9mm, considering the price difference of ammo. There are also many different loads of 9mm ammo and weapons available, more so than 30SC to choose from.

Why are people so concerned about how many rounds their handgun can carry? If one's ability to hit a target with fewer round is your concern, then practice! Otherwise carry a gun that will stop the aggressor with the fewest of hits and that is the 45!!
