I have had success with the napkins going through my HPOfficeJet printer. The trick is attaching it to CARDSTOCK, not flimsy copy paper. You also need to make sure it’s not coming up on one side, so making sure the top and bottom are tacked down. I used washi tape to do this. It printed on my first try! Oh and tissue paper will work as well! ❤😊

Not sure if this has already been mentioned: if printing using an inkjet try sealing the ink by ‘fixing’ it. Spray with a light coat of fixative, matte sealer or even try hairspray. This will reduce the amount of ink bleeding and will also allow you to seal label to project by doing a topcoat of Mod Podge.

I use Folgers cans all over my house, spray painted for the color of the room's decor: dry pet food, craft supplies, batteries, even as a planter! Never thought to add a handle. Thank you for that! I love the enamel look. To prevent the print from bleeding, spray it with Krylon Workable Fixatif. I make decoupage jewelry, key chains, reusable gift tags, and tree ornaments. The fixative works great. Make sure to shake really well. I let it sit overnight to ensure it's set. I tried the heat gun method. That didn't work for me. Thank you for all your crafty ideas!
@mamapillow83652 жыл бұрын
Great idea, they turned out very cute! I think the vellum was a great choice. Your suggestion of spray adhesive is probably the best choice, but you could use double-sided adhesive sheets on the labels. Double-sided tape is not the same, the sheet adhesive is stronger, and won't show through the vellum. When you decoupage ink jet prints, they need to be sealed first and I just use a couple of light applications of a spray sealer for wood. Can't wait for the bread holder video.

Your ideas are always so cute and useful, Norrine! Nothing is perfect. Don't beat yourself up about it. They looked great! Tip about using an inkjet printer. Let the ink cure at the very least overnight if you'll be using anything wet. Whether it be glue, paint, or water, that will touch it. While it may feel dry to the touch very quickly, if you don't give curing time, there's a chance you'll have the issues you did.

I've never tried printing on napkins, but maybe the trick of ironing onto freezer paper would work. Peeling back off would be the worst issue I would think. But hey, sometime when you got the iron out just make a test piece, let it cool then try pealing it off. Never hurts to add to the "well I know now another thing that doesn't work" list 😄

I can’t imagine getting the napkin to feed through the printer properly unless possibly, and I have not tried this, you iron it onto the shiny side of freezer paper and cut it to size for your printer. I’m thinking that would work because it would be stuck down all over and then it’ll peel right off.

Great to see you Norrine! 😀 These canisters are pretty cute! I don't know anything about printing on napkins, but I did learn one cool decoupage trick that may help. Ok, so it may sound counter intuitive, but find some cardstock or scrapbook paper you like and print your labels out on them. Then, on the back side of the paper, cover it with packing tape, leaving a tail sticking up on one end. CAREFULLY, pull the tape off the back of the paper, and with it, you will pull off a layer or two of paper, leaving it nice and thin like tissue, just right for decoupage!

@battygirlrachel2 жыл бұрын
I've seen the printing on napkins but never tried it for the reason you showed 😆 you could print the mirror image of the lable the put the mod podge down and lay the paper on it print side down then after its dry, wet the paper and gently rub it til the paper is removed leaving the ink behind. Spray with a clear sealer when done. I've done that technique a few times without issue, but you want to be gentle on rubbing off the paper, especially if the surface doesn't grab the glue as well. (Wetting the glue can soften it)

I’m needing containers for the coffee pods & sweeteners. Thanks & glad to see your beautiful face!!
@andrealavigne78242 жыл бұрын
Wonderful job, Norrine! I'm not a distressed/farmhouse style girl myself, but I still like the look you got. I do have a potential tip for printing on napkins. I say "potential" because I've never tried it, but it might work. Instead of taping the napkin to copy paper, try cutting a piece of freezer paper to whatever size you need for your printer. Probably letter-size would work best, but different printers can print different sizes sometimes. Place your napkin face up on the shiny side of the freezer paper, & iron it on. You shouldn't need a very high heat level, and NO steam. When the napkin is stuck to the paper, you should be able to run it through your printer. Just feed it in so the napkin side faces whichever direction your printer prints on. That's probably a "duh" piece of advice, but.... ;) The napkin should remain stuck, and then you can peel it off the freezer paper after printing. If it won't peel, just add a bit of heat to the back of the freezer paper with your iron & gently peel the napkin away. Now remember - I've never printed on napkins, so I absolutely don't guarantee any sort of good or bad result! :) But I have printed on freezer paper (the paper side) to make temporary iron-on patterns for fabric crafts, so I would think it should work. (How many times have I said, "should" in this paragraph??? LOL) When I printed on the freezer paper, I actually ironed on one end of it to a sheet of copy paper (I had cut the freezer paper to 8-1/2x11"), & fed it ironed-on end first. Worked like a charm. Anyway, that's my advice, complete with disclaimers & caveats. :) Also, if you have an inkjet printer that doesn't use waterproof ink (Epson printers that use their DuraBrite inks do), for a little more money, you can take your labels design file to a copy shop & have them print it on a laser printer. I'm not sure if they would print on vellum, but it would be worth an ask. I've printed on vellum with no problem, so maybe they would, too. That way, when you glue the label on, the printing shouldn't smear. Thank you for sharing your process. I'm glad you're back again doing videos. I watched your video from the other day about where you've been, but I couldn't manage to type a comment over our cat who was lying on my lap next to my "other" laptop (computer). I'm sorry about your injuries and your reaction over your daughter leaving for college. I hope you are doing better now. Well, I've rambled on long enough. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)
