300 gallon Koi stock tank pond

I recently adopted 6 butterfly koi and one Kohaku koi from a family friend who was moving out of state. I have setup a somewhat temporary home for them until a larger pond can be dug and constructed.

only thing i would suggest would be a black pond liner u can get from lowes for 100 ish bucks the koi like darker much better

Aquaponics man! How much did the tank run you? I have been thinking of putting a big tank in my back yard for outside aquaponics, however I have too many other projects that need attention first. I guess now that you own your house...

I think the tank was over $200. It won't be an aquaponics setup until I add in the bog filter system and plants. I've been going through the garden centers and tractor supply looking at container options and trying to decide which one I want. It needs to be a good addition to the yard that is nice looking and adds value....not an eye sore. So it's important to me that I select the right materials. Most of that will come as I landscape around it I hope.

What do u do for the cold winters? It's not insulated as well from the cold as an in ground, freezing? I been wanting to do this but worry about NC winters.

Does that tank get hot easily and if so how do you prevent it from getting too hot ?

Sheila Galvan i suppose it would in a southern climate. Up north where I am and kept in the shade it didn’t get too warm at all.

Why did you use a pond liner if it’s already made to hold water?

because there are chemicals that leach from the galvanized metal. I quickly found it was effecting the fish and so I added in a liner. Problem solved!

It is 300 cause I have the big 700 8x8x2 gallon one in my garage and have one of the 300 gallon water troughs as my quarantine tank for my koi . nice job utilizing the space bud
