I've got some of most of their rounds, but the 130 Hot Core seems to impress me the most. I'd hate to get hit with controlled chaos. That is a wicked round. Not sure about hunting with it as you'd have to watch frags. Defense-yes.

The .300 HAM'R is one of my favorite cartridges to run in an AR platform. A friend asked me once if I could only take one rifle with me, and I didn't know what I'd encounter, would I take 5.56mm or .308. I said neither, I'd take .300 HAM'R. Lighter rifle than a .308 while out-performing a 30-30. I'd say that's a fair compromise.
@baconatordoom
@baconatordoom 2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you won't encounter any ammo for it if SHTF. You'll find .556 and .308. At least you can switch uppers. $1 dollar a round vs $2 for 300fps gain over 300blk is not that great of a compromise.

There are a few lightweight 308 rifles on the market now. Ruger just introduced one that weights about as much as an AR15 for under a grand. The game is being changed yet again
@Axe_six-six
@Axe_six-six 2 жыл бұрын
@@baconatordoom You make a fair point. When he posed the question to me, it was more of a "trek into the woods" scenario, not SHTF. But you're right. I don't have as much .300 HAM'R stockpiled as I do 5.56 or .308. But thanks to your reminder, I'll be fixing that shortly. Thanks, brother!
@Axe_six-six
@Axe_six-six 2 жыл бұрын
@@TommyboyGTP I've heard good things about that rifle. You also make a valid point. Having fired the M14 in the National Matches years ago, I just know I can get follow-up shots on target much quicker with .300 HAM'R than with .308. Now, I realize the .300 HAM'R may not have the same punch out to 600m and beyond like the .308. But that's the great thing about having choices. And to my friend's original question, I can't foresee ever limiting myself to just one cartridge or one rifle. I'm always in favor of the right tool for the job.

@@Axe_six-six The Ruger rifle comes with a muzzle brake making the 308 quite tame. my understanding is Ruger will also be offering it in 6.5 Creedmoor as well.

I took my Tactical Hunter 300 Hamr to the indoor range. I shot 4 20ct magazines and got a hole the size of a quarter that they all went through on 4 different targets. Besides power in the AR 15 platform, it is hard to miss with this gun.

I absolutely love this caliber. It is the premier AR-15 based round and should be the one that every SWAT and Tier 1 unit is clamoring to get. Flat shooting, long range, high capacity, low recoil, it has it all. But it has largely been pitched to the public as a hunting round. It is my belief that if we ever want to see 300 HAMR as a ubiquitous tactical round, then Wilson Combat needs to use its clout in the industry to promote this as a round designed for man, not beast. We need more testing and reviews in magazines, etc, showcasing its TACTICAL abilities.

Single GMT 800door layer with reinforcing bar? Maybe 0.125" combined? Put the rest of the guts inside the door, the steel inner panel holds window regulator mechanism. Added the door panel too. Put it back in and then reshoot it. Not much resistance in a door skin

Really appreciate the top notch motion imaging of the gel block. It looks like the target was within 50 meters of the shooter, correct? That distance is perhaps a minimum at which a high power centerfire rifle would be used. Has it been explored if any SAAMI spec loadings for the 300 AAC Blackout---with these same projectiles---compare favorably with the 300 HAM'R? Thank you!

Compared to the 300 HAM'R, the 300 Blackout is not up to par. That's why Bill Wilson created the 300 HAM'R. He said he wanted a light gun, but with the terminal velocity of a .308 or something to that affect. This is on my list for sure. 😁😁👍👍👍

Longer cartridge case with greater powder capacity and no provision for subsonic use. Gets 200-400fps more velocity than a .300 BLK loaded with the same bullet out of the same length barrel.

300 HAM'R is everything 300 Blackout supersonic wishes it was. An 11.3" 300 HAM'R is equivalent to a 16" 300 Blackout. A 300 HAM'R bolt action gains approximately 150fps over a gas gun. When I see people making shallow arguments about cost, I assume they never learned to cook, do an oil and filter change, build an AR, or suck it up and buy a suppressor+tax stamp+wait forever instead of crying like a 13 year old girl on her period. Learn to reload! Buy in bulk. Invest in cost reduction while maintaining quality by doing it yourself. JFC!
@chrisoffutt8968

300 BLK is meant to be really good subsonic and acceptably good when shooting supers. 300 HAM'R was only intended to deliver max terminal performance with supersonic ammo.
@baconatordoom
@baconatordoom 2 жыл бұрын
@The10thManRules It's people who have had to cook for themselves, change the oil and filter in their old beaters themselves, the ones who chose to put their families first instead of paying the government more taxes on top of what they already take for a suppressor or buy reloading equipment or bulk ammo. It's the ones who work blue-collar 60+ hour work weeks to make ends meet so they own what they worked for, not making payments to a dealership or bank and not "crying like a 13-year-old girl on her period". They are the ones who make "shallow arguments" about cost. They are the ones who are experts in "cost reduction". The OP asked what's the difference. And the difference was told. Price can be a HUGE deciding factor for some(most). Learn to see life threw other's eyes. Not everybody has the same physical, mental, available time, or financial capabilities as you might. JFC!

@DaveSmith-cp5kj
@DaveSmith-cp5kj 8 ай бұрын
The purpose is basically a 308 replacement. It has 2/3 the energy of a 308 but the ammo is a lot more compact and can be handloaded way cheaper due to a lower powder usage. In the same magazine pouch 40 rounds of 308 can be carried, 90 rounds of hamr can be carried instead. So instead of using an AR10 if you want more range, you can just jump straight to 300win mag ar instead.

@@prestonmonaghan499 Nobody shooting 125gr bullets from 30/30. Bill has a video where he compares 30/30 factory ammo loaded with 150gr and his 300 HAM'R loaded with 150gr and HAM'R performs just a hair better BUT with a 30 round magazine and using pointy bullets. Look it up, he proved it, no BS, real test over chrono. Yes, you can probably push 30/30 faster with reloads and modern powders I won't argue about that but the HAM'R advantage is clear to me. Why 300 hamr? About 300 fps advantage and about 400 fp energy advantage. Flat shooter. You can do a barrel swap. I was thinking about the reverse if ammo goes thin to get a blackout barrel. Blackout is going to be a great sub sonic and Hamr is going to be all supersonic, good for close and better to reach out up for longer shots.

Anyone walking after this one is not human. The demonstrations clearly show the high degree of energy transference. If they survive the impact, doubtful, they will bleed out inside a minute or two. They will not live to fight another day. All rounds are devastating. Nobody will volunteer to act as a target for this round. A vest test would really tell the tale. Not a good idea to be on the receiving end of this round without question.

So is this just basically 300 BLK or 7.62x39 for guys with too much extra money to waste, or is there a significant advantage over other 30 cal rounds that cost much less and are more available?
@GarrettLucasWV
@GarrettLucasWV 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the particular round, the 300 HAMR loads run about 300-400 fps faster than 300 BLK (with around 400 foot pounds more energy) and about 200 fps faster than 7.62 x 39. 300 BLK is great for subsonic work, but 300 HAMR wasn't made for that. It's mean to be the equivalent of a .30-30 but in an AR form factor. You still get your 30 rounds in a magazine but with a more potent round than 5.56. Having shot the 300 HAMR on a few occasions I can also attest to its outstanding accuracy, particularly from a Wilson Combat barrel. Sub-one-inch groups were the norm with the ones I've shot and you're definitely not getting that from 7.62 x 39 out of an AK. As for being more available, the only thing you have to do to shoot 300 HAMR out of your AR is buy a 300 HAMR barrel and swap it out. It uses all of the same internals as a standard 5.56 AR rifle.

The only thing I could determine from the reviews and specifications is that the 300 HAM'R is more accurate than 7.62x39 and much more powerful than 300 BLK. But what a steep price for more accuracy 🤔 If I win the lottery, I'll buy one for you and one for me 😉
