Most ninjago sets I’ve seen also use a lot of really cool building elements. Usually using weapons and swords as other practical build pieces you wouldn’t usually see them being used in

The use of the minifig legs for the Lions is because in real life, 2 "Lions dancers" would cooperate and create the movements of the lion on the poles. There's a person controlling the head and the second person is behind holding/lifting the first guy. This means that yes, LEGO is taking realistic factors into the set.

One of my favorite build techniques is in the Orchids set, where they used the Demogorgon's head from the Stranger Things set as a representation of a small orchid flower.

I love the Orchid set, using hero factory pauldrons, bionicle eyes, frogs, gear pieces and my favourite technique, the fork pushed through the arm hole of a shield to get the smaller petals. Plus the re purposing of the DemiGorgon head. Easily one of my favourite sets purely for the part usage.

Plain, transparent minifigure heads have been used as lamps in the Modular buildings since at least 2007. And the paint rollers were used as lamp holders in the Detective's Office in 2015 as well.

In the Death Star Trench Run, the X-Wing's engine glow is 4 rubys. Technically the set also has 4 green lights sabers in it as 2 sets of the green "beams" are being used by the Tie Fighters and the 4 light saber hilts are part of the X-Wing's guns.

I love how the 2016 Big Ben set uses ski posts for spires and micro figures for part of the outer wall of the Houses of Parliament. PS - The Aston Martin DB5 James Bond set from last year also uses the "microphone as gear stick" trick, as well as using binoculars for the exhaust pipe, which is connected to the car with the unusual use of a gun.

My favourite building technique Lego used _has_ to be for the rear bumper assembly for the Speed Champions Pagani Utopia, where Lego used four traditional car door pieces in a completely different way to capture the distinctive shaping of the Pagani's rear end.

The use of a minifigure microphone as a shift lever in a car is really common in the Speed Champions line if I remember correctly. For another interesting use of a piece is the Speed Champions Koenigsegg Jesko as it uses a bright green cleaver as the front air splitter.

In the Nano Gauntlet set, I vaguely remember seeing silver mini figure skates under the stones when I built it. I'm pretty sure they help hold on the gold bags

I really like the use of piece 61184 in Creator set 31127 for the muscle car modes supercharger, it's a nice detail at minifig scale

Lego cars seem to be great places to see stuff like this. In one of the newer Speed Champions Ferrari sets, the tail pipes are modern rounded tile shooters. And on the Orange McLaren, the tailpipes are two pairs of binoculars. The Microphone as a Stick Shift has been done quite a few times too.

There is a trick in the McLaren F1 LM set where they use an oar on the sides, I only noticed it when you pointed out the use of oars in the botanical sets!

Benny's spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! uses dumpster wheels to attach medium sized dish pieces to the anti-stud side of an old style bracket piece. They help hide the technic cannons when the wings are retracted. My latest LEGO acquisition is the Deep Dark Battle which has a very interesting assembly for the destructible tower you build last, the body of the tower is made of four identical pillars that are themselves symmetrical in that you can flip them over and they will still fit where they need to. Definitely recommend you check out the instructions for that one. Also, the sculk shrieker uses a new piece for this wave that also appears in the End Arena as the top half of a Shulker's shell. Cool to get a new piece and get multiple examples of uses for it in the same wave.

The Lego Speed Champions Ferrari 812 Competizione 76914 set has a really smart use of the new stud shooters! They are used to make the exhausts and it looks so accurate to the real car!

Funny detail I found in ninjago city markets. There's a hot dog bun used as a lantern in that set. There's also a ton of easter eggs in that set. It would be fun to see a video about those.

Talking about using minifig heads for lighting, lots of the christmas village sets (I dont know what that seris is officaly called) have trasparent minifig heads. The house uses 4 as a chandelier, and the lamp posts in several seets also use them

The Lego pyramids of Giza use the same non connecting wall pieces for the steps to the temple. It also uses silver bar pieces for coffins in all three pyramids

Interestingly the "gun used as not a gun" thing has (as far as I can tell) only happened in either A.Adult-targeted sets such as the Caterham or Succulents or B.Sets where guns used as actual guns are acceptable such as Super Heroes, Western, Pirates, Star Wars, Ninjago, Agents, Jurassic etc. The "gun that isn't a gun" hasn't appeared in things like Friends or City or Creator 3-in-1 (the only time guns have appeared in "modern day" sets like that is the pirate pistol appearing in a couple of Friends sets where its clearly meant to be a prop going with other pirate parts like hats)

Minifig heads get used quite a bit in sets in the Classic theme. In set 10709 they use a blank yellow minifig head as a pumpkin. And in set 11013 they use a translucent neon green head as a wizard potion!

On the subject of bananas, on of the power-tool themed mixers used dark stone gray bananas as eyebrows. A clear head showed up as a lamp in a large house set YEARS ago(I don't remember when or what set, but it was tan with red roof slants). And I whole-heartedly agree that stickers suck. If there's an epic fail video, the Temple of Light set from early Ninjago used a sticker on a wall panel directly beneath a trapdoor, which caught on said sticker and peeled the corner so much that it stopped sticking. The same set also included a mouthguard on Garmadon's helmet, which isn't show accurate. But the golden mech was cool.
