I have a 2004 WJ 4x4 with the 4.0 i6. Bought it in 2020 after the FED printed trillions and I knew that inflation was going to kill us one day and I needed to get out of debt before hand haha. Paid $6k for it with only 122k miles, SUPER clean inside and out, leather and a sun roof etc. I have added a roof basket and a lift and tires similar to yours. I went from a 2019 Rubicon Wrangler to it and do not regret it. Best part is that I have not had a car payment for nearly 3 years now. Saved a ton.

I got my 2004 WJ Special Edition for $1,500 because the owner was scared of the occasional 'death wobble' I balanced the front tires and tightened the track bar and it was fixed. I took the family to dinner that night and they all like it better than my '21 Terrain. I think it's gonna be my daily driver. Solid, smooth, quiet with great road manners.

Tyler, What a great video, full of great information. I'm the original owner of a 2001 Jeep WJ laredo 4.0l litre I love my Jeep because I can work on it myself and its become my hobby. I had a Dodge before this and after spending thousands each time I took it into the dealer for service I finally said F them and I started doing my own maintenance and fixes. My Jeeps now 21 years older and its got 328,000 miles on it and I've been running synthetic oil in it and it still runs strong. I recently put in new main crank bearings. main bearings, & a main seal all without removing the engine in my driveway. I did a compression test and the engine still has a decent 165 PSI compression in all cylinders so I guess that synthetic oil was worth the extra cost. Keep up the great work.....

Not bad for a WJ! At least you taken great care of it, I own the 2002 WJ Laredo trim package which has the inline 6 engine, leather interior and then along the way I installed a 2 inch lift kit, all terrain tires from Falken, Moto Metal wheels, new front bumper for the winch, new headlights and upgraded the sound system too including a touch screen. Its a hobby man once you own a Jeep the projects never stop! V8s are nice for the sounds but harder to maintain, inline 6 engines can go on forever as long you know how and when to maintain it and find the source of its problems.

I've got a 2004 WJ Laredo, with over 192k Miles at time of purchase back in May of 2019, but with the 4.0L LOL-Tractor Inline-6 engine, & it's definitely Built Like A Tank. The Ductile Cast-Iron Block & Head are almost Bombproof, with keeping the fluids topped off, and watching the gauges as I drive, as the only things I really need to do between proper maintenance intervals.

Hi Tyler, recently fixed my late wife's 2002 Jeep grand Cherokee. She loved it so i decided not to get rid of it but keep for a little while, even though i had other plans sometime after my wife passed. Thanks for your great video detailing all that you did to your jeep. It looks great, it sure does not look like a 25 year old jeep at all. You have done an amazing job with it. In any case, what did you use on your bumpers to get them so black. Mine is a little faded, i have been wondering what i can use on it to give it a little bit of a nice look. I really like your bumpers and how they look. Any pointers here will be much appreciated. Thanks again and have a good one.

Just a week ago, I bought an 04 WJ Laredo with 4.0 and Select-Trac. I paid $5500, BUT it only has 83K miles and zero rust (was an AZ Jeep). I put on the same wheels as yours with Yokohama AT tires. I replaced the motor mounts and had to fix a few things. Loose front shocks, loose airbox, improperly gapped spark plugs. Added new headlights with LED bulbs. This WJ now rides so nicely. Thanks for the video and the info about the overhead console. I'm going to look for one with the homelink buttons.

Feels funny looking at a vehicle nearly identical to your own except for the fact you own the 2003 Limited with Quadra. I've had mine over 13 years and am the second owner. Just had to replace the engine gaskets and oil pan at a cost of $1400. It has been in an accident, but no frame damage and the outer damage was repaired. (thank you full coverage insurance!) Now the center console is fall out due to broken clips at the bottom. The blend doors on the right side are out and blowing cold air even when the heat is on. Both passenger side power doors are dead and need switches at least. A decent bump in the back fender where I missed a rather large size rock around eight or so years ago. Bumper was backed into and the license plate ripped off. Decent from a pole when trying to back full into a parking spot..didn't eve notice the probably half inch size pole that day. Driver side hole in carpet and seat wear and tear. CD changer worked last I check 10+ years ago. HAHA Yeah, the Limited isn't in as good a shape as yours at all. I'm impressed it ran this long before the gaskets blew. Nearly 20 years. However, I won't be going back to Jeep. Horrible to no support. Now some of the worst reliability in the industry. I'll be jumping on the 4Runner bandwagon most likely. It's funny I am even tempted by the 4th gen Runners with their V8s. Wish companies would add the V8 option back. Too worried about gas mileage when the people buying these don't care about gas mileage.

This was a very interesting video, thanks for making! That reminds me that I should finish writing down my accounts of my past Jeeps. I'm currently on my 3rd Jeep, and own a 2003 WJ Laredo 2WD 6 cylinder. All OEM, 272K miles. I've had to dump $2000 worth of repairs and parts into it to get it to a road worthy state; while I got the vehicle for free, the transmission was half-wrecked and had a primary wire harness problem. To minuscule things such as the A/C expansion valve to have A/C, circuit boards on the tail lights so that they work properly, and having to splice wires to the main computer because of a squirrel or some vandal who slashed things in the hood. Both my previous Jeeps, 96' era Grand Cherokees, were named after volcanoes due to their low gas mileage. This WJ deserved a different name due to how "modern" it looked despite it being 20 years old (it was the first time I had a vehicle less than 20 years old at time of acquisition); Britannica. It's rounded, has a nice shape, and I bug my in-law that she can throw a crowbar at it and it'll take a hit. It still eats up gas at 15 mpg on the rural country roads where i live, but does better once you get 55+ mph on a freeway. Save for some interior things, I want to do some of the OEM plus upgrades like you've shown on some of your channel. I do want to glass-panel the radio just to keep modern and link with devices, and plan to add some tech quality-of-life improvements for passengers such as USB-C/Q3.0 Quickcharge ports. I've kept it stock as possible for ease of maintenance, and primarily maintain it for long-range, Interstate driving (so factory lift for aerodynamics, etc). Probably a bit of a longer comment than I was expecting, but your videos excited me to do more upgrades on Britannica when able. Thanks again for the videos on these lines of Jeep.

I wouldn't be to concerned with the original fuel injectors. We have some Jeeps that come in for service with 200-300K miles with original injectors with no issues. Now if it had a injector circuit code then you could have a bad one but they normally are pretty good. I really like my Bilstein shocks on mine. @O Kl your transmission is going out, can’t really do anything. I’d recommend a good condition junk yard transmission. Not a lot of people know how to rebuild these Jeep’s transmissions well. Or if you have the money you can buy a remanufactured transmission from a reputable website. The 42re is the weak point in your jeep. If it’s a junker vehicle and you want an upgrade buy a V8 , they have the 45rfe or the 545rfe. It might be cheaper than a new transmission.

There are a lot of company's that make the WJ a-arm spacers, just search Jeep WJ rear control arm or a-arm spacer. I believe mine is from rocky road, but iron rock and kevins off road has them also. I am not quite sure where you got your information but there is a Ton of aftermarket support for the WJ. The fact that they share a lot of components with the TJ and XJ means that short of some suspension parts there is a lot out there. There are also a lot of WJ's around. You got yours for 300 because of the drive train. WHICH IS NOT DESIRED!. you had the drive train everyone avoids. The 4.0 is vastly more reliable and comes with the better T-cases. And since the 4.0l is shared with the TJ and XJ the parts are easier to find. XJ's and TJ's are almost impossible to find now. So people are turning to WJ's as they are more comfortable with the same proven drive train. A word to anyone that is looking at WJ's there is a not of stuff out there about them. watch more than one video and will learn a lot more about them that this video provides.

Other than leaking evaporators or heater cores we really don't have issues with the MTC housings I can't really think of the last time we had a door broken. Now ATC housings break doors ALL the time lol temp doors, recirculation doors you name it lol Thanks for the view!

Great video :-) Actually the Quadradrive 247 transfercase isn't bad at all. Driving without a front driveshaft installed is no problem. After all the 247 transfercase is primary RWD anyway. I and lot's of others have driven for years without the front driveshaft installed in 4All Time. And it is of course locked in 4Low anyway. And the aftermarket is actually not bad at all for WJ's. It wasn't bad 10 years ago either, lot's of parts available. But now it is getting really good.

Yes the 247 isn't that bad but it is nice being able to lock the 242 in to 4hi, thanks for the view!
