I’m of the age range where the Weatherby was a dream rifle. We had a large gun shop in the area that carried Weatherby Mark V rifles and had a display of all Weatherby cartridges …… the first time viewing a 30-378 cartridge round was an eye opener! We grew up “knowing” that the Weatherby magnums were the hot rods of the gun world. Hard to beat them.

The twist rate of 300PRC rifles is the trick.....go to a faster twist rate in any of the older magnum cartridges, especially the 7mm magnum variants, and watch the performance jump past these newer "hot rod" cartridges.

There is a reason they only advertise it against the 300 wm The 300PRC offers very little over 300 wby. It really doesn't offer that much over 300 wm and I know how much superior the weatherby is to the win mag.

Still a 300 PRC fan a little more case capacity for the 300 Weatherby. Both are amazing cartridges and are very viable choices. The only thing that hinders the 300 Weatherby is the limitation on brass. And you can’t stabilize the 250gr

This is a huge gripe of mine about Hornady load data. Almost every time they show load data with a cartridge that competes with one of their cartridges, they really water them down.

I have a 257 weatherby and like it I’m just not a fan of all there stuff due to price availability ect. But I think there are two cartridge that Weatherby just rocked 257 and the 300.

If you don't want to own a Weatherby rifle, it's much easier to do so with the .300 PRC. I wish Hornady would make some of the parent .375 Ruger though, because I haven't found anything but super expensive loaded ammo for that. I'd be more inclined to buy a Weatherby if their less expensive models had threaded barrels and more modern stock designs. I'm not a huge fan of their vanguard stocks personally.

Although ballistically similar these two cartridges are designed to be better for different bullets - 300 WBY for traditional ogive hunting bullets at high velocity, the 300 PRC for heavy high BC bullets at slightly lower velocity. My preference is for the 300 PRC but I would rather have a 1-10 twist for the bullets I would be using. I will say however that I've been very impressed with the results you've had from your Vanguard in 300 WBY.

300 Weatherby is the best 30 caliber Magnum is like fine wine. You can go larger or smaller, but none is better . Keep the PRC , 300 Winchester, and the 300/378 Magnum. Only better game crushing cartridge is the 340 Weatherby because of added bullet weight and slightly larger bullet diameter .

An 80 year old cartridge that beats the new kid , why do we need a new one ? Oh yea , to sell new rifles ! Btw you don’t want a tight chamber in a hunting rifle , if you have a slightly out of spec cartridge it may not chamber ! When the Bear charges and it won’t chamber for the second shot you may become ( LUNCH ) !…… Enjoy your new cartridge that is not NEEDED !…….

You run your hunting rounds through your hunting rifle before going hunting, or you're asking for trouble. Tight specs make for more accurate results.

I picked up 4 boxes hornady 30 cal ELD X 178 gr cheap. I am looking at a new vanguard 300 wby. The 2 models i am looking at. Outfitter First Lite Cipher Exclusive. Have u looked at them in person? My local store only has the all black one. I like the spiral barrel. Any suggestion?

According to Hornady 10 grains of water between the .300 Win Mag and .300 Weatherby Mag only gets you an extra 50 - 100 fps 🤪 They say only follow the data because ‘SAFETY’ but then they lie and cook the books.

I have been thinking, if Winchester wants to get back at Hornady for trying to kill the 6.8 Western they should bring the 7-300 PRC wild cat to SAAMI It would perform far better then the 7PRC (especially right now) hell it would likely be the best performing 7 around rivaling the 28 nosler and if it keeps the 1-8 twist it would use the same bullets as the 7prc

Honestly for what the 6.8 W offers I'd rather shoot it over the 7PRC already. It's more efficient and really not very far off of the 7PRC performance overall. And it's in a short action.
