I am dealing with injured and arthritis in my shoulders. What is the difference in recoil from the standard type 180 grain to the copper 165 grains? I am hoping this could give me more useful life out of my 300 win mag. Given my condition. Thank you and Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.

I have custom loaded the 150 TSX 300 WBY for a friend , using as elk medicine. He doesn't shoot over 250 yds. He is old school dude, he wants them SCREAMING FAST. Hasn't lost an elk yet. Smashes thru the shoulders and gets to where it needs to be. He has great confidence with the TSX. I get a little grin on my face every time he tells me, " I got another one"! 😊

Fabulous review! My experience with the Barnes TSX has been on more than a dozen African plains game animals as well as on a bull elk back home. Using the 130 gr (.270 Win) and 140 gr (7x57), the first thing was the impressive penetration (28" on a neck-to-thigh Blesbuck with the 130 gr out of the .270 Win.) All the rest were pass-throughs. The majority were "bang-flop" kills with one impala going about 20 yards before expiring. There is no doubt that the TSX is an excellent performer for big game. It would be nice to see you test some TSXs in smaller cartridges like the 7-08, .270 Win and the 6.5 CM.

There was a time when I would have made fun of anyone hunting deer with ANY magnum rifle round. In fact, I did make fun of several fellow hunters for hunting white tail deer with 7mm Rem Mags and 300 Magnums. I kidded them about overkill and using "anti-tank rounds". In 2019 I had to adjust my attitude and opinions when I discovered that my favorite deer hunting property was no longer "close cover" country and that shots out to 300 yards and beyond had become common. A close friend of mine had come to that conclusion ahead of me and purchased a rifle in 300 WSM and has had great success with it at ranges I would never even have considered twenty or so years ago. Excellent video covering a caliber I would now feel comfortable carrying afield for just about anything on the North American continent.

Excellent review, great to see a no BS .300 WinMag ammo review. I have used the Barnes 168 Gr TTSX in my .300 WinMag on a couple elk, a lot of whitetail and a few hogs. Always get complete penetration and DRT performance. I've also used the 150 Gr TTSX in .308 Win on a few whitetail and 1 elk, same performance but they tend to run a very short distance. Have never recovered a bullet, even with the .308. Accuracy is also excellent, the only bullet my rifles seem to shoot more accurately is the ELD-X, but I only use those in 200 and 212 grain weights due to inconsistent performance in the lighter bullets.

I used Barnes for years and had great results. Saying that I have changed to Federal Terminal Ascent and Norma bondstrike in my 300 PRC and 300 WSM. The results you have had on those 2 types of bullets were excellent and probably better than the barnes. What are your thoughts when comparing all of them ?

Beautiful combination! That'd take almost anything in North America. I haven't tried the ttsx in my 300 Winchester but it loves the regular ol tsx...
@robertmajors17373 ай бұрын
They shoot the same for me, but it seems like the TTSX alloy is a bit softer, offering more expansion. I l Iike them or the LRX, which is softer yet. The only downside is that sometimes at close range, you might have a petal or two come off, but I really think this just adds secondary wound tracks and actually increases lethality.
@danielrobey17593 ай бұрын
@@robertmajors1737 that's good to know. I think the more expansion the better as we know the tsx won't blow up whether it has a tip or not...
@robertmajors17373 ай бұрын
@danielrobey1759 You betcha. My dad took the 180 train tipped tsx to South Africa and shot a bunch of plains game with his 300wm. Sizes ranging from springbok to greater kudu, and all pass through one shot kills. You can't drive them too fast, they love speed. I deer hunt with the 120 tipped tsx in a 7mm rem mag at 3400 fps. It hits them like Thors's hammer.

@14goldmedals2 ай бұрын
Excellent choice and I've used the 120 TTSX bullet very successfully in my 280 Remington. I get 3080 fps out of a 22" barrelled Browning A-Bolt II using IMR-4831 (compressed load). That little bullet punches way above its weight on big Alberta whitetails! Bang-Flop inside 300 yards is damn impressive. I also use the 140 TTSX in 7mmRemMag loads, one bull moose so far and he too was a Bang-Flop at 260 yards. Bullet sheared off the large artery and most of the main vein on top of the heart. And moose have a damn big pumper.
@milo5551002 ай бұрын

The only excessive thing is the recoil of the 300 Win. mag. Some people can handle it, but some can't. There is no question about the 300 Win. mag's effectiveness with the TSX bullet, it is very impressive.
@MatthewPetri-i2c3 ай бұрын
My first .300 win mag was a Winchester Model 70 featherweight. Back in the 90’s. The recoil was absolutely brutal after 20 rounds. Hard synthetic stock. Fast forward to now, I have a Browning X-Bolt Hells Canyon Speed SR 26 inch barrel with the HAWG muzzle break. I kicks less than my AR-15 in 5.56. I can shoot it all day and not even think about recoil.
@PassivePortfolios3 ай бұрын
@@MatthewPetri-i2c How is your hearing? Muzzle breaks are very loud. A friend had a Savage 338 Win mag with an adjustable muzzle break but he was told to turn it off at the local range because it was too loud. He used a PAST shoulder pad to reduce the recoil.
