I am also. My dad recently passed away In December of last year And that was his most beloved rifle. He has had it since the mid-eighties And hes only taken it out hunting 3T does not have a scratch on it it's immaculate and I think this yearTo honor him I have to take that Beast out Into the Woods And put down a beautiful wall hanger box with it. I am a smaller frame guy to be honest I really don't even like shooting damn thing. 5'10" 165 pounds And I also broke my right collar bone back about 10 years ago so my right collar bone sticks out a little bit some of the hard-hitting rifles really put a hurt on me with my collarbone sticking out. Let's just say it's honestly not enjoyable.I will do it out of Honor and Duty to him but for myself After this hunting season it will probably never leave the safe again. I have plenty of deer caliber rifles, .243, .25-06 (My Favorite) .30-06, AR10 .308, .300 blackout. Several 12 gauges, I have even used my AR15 5.56mm on deer without issue, shot placement counts! I mainly use my Savage Axis .25-06 bolt action, lighter recoil than the 30-06 (Remington Semi Auto) lighter overall weight, camo composite stock and it has no issue putting deer on the ground. The 1st time I deer hunted with it I fell in love with it and pretty much only use that now unless I am going on a deer drive or stalk hunt where I need a semi then I usually go with the AR .300 Blackout

I have owned both since 1977. Spot on about the propellant burn rate. Use are using too fast of a propellant. Drop down to RL26, IMR 7828 SSC, H1000. Be sure you use Federal 215 primer. As far as factory ammo goes. 300 Win Mag in Federal Premium will run about $85 to $90. 300 Weatherby Mag in Weatherby Select Plus will run $109 off Wby Web Site. About $90 from a volume retailer. Brass - Norma use to make brass for both Weatherby (original ammo manufacture for Weatherby). Also, use to run brass for Nosler. Covid screwsed everything else up. When optimized, there will only be 150 to 250 difference. Both are excellent cartridges. I support your conclusion, but based on your ammo needs. I prefer 300 Wby Mag. I don’t have to push it as hard to get top results. Loading RL 26 in a 300 Wby Mag my ES is 4 FPS over 5 shots. 300 Win about the same. Both are more than hunting accurate.

MY fav 300 mag is and always will be, the 300 H&H. It will easily match the 300 Win mag in like barrel lengths. I have owned two H&H's (have one now) and two 300 Win mag's (have one now) and owned one 300 Wby. The first 300 Win I had was a M-70 Supergrade I bought back 27 years ago or thereabouts. It was back when they had red butt pads and awesome stocks. It had a 26" tube. 3050 to a touch over 3100 was all I could ever get from 180's of any kind, but my 26" 300 Wby would hit 3300 with 180's with no problem. The big increase in velocity with the Wby is the same exact reason I went from owning 338 Win mag's to owning 340 Wby mag's . I've chrono'd a ton of loads out of each cal and the Wby walks all over the Win mag (not that the 338 is a crap round at all, just the Wby is much more)

Thanks for the video . I have owned and reloaded both the 300 Win and the 300 Wby . This is why you reload ! I would not pay $ 100 a box for WBY ammo it only costs pennies more to reload Wby cartridges 8 to 10 more grains of powder if you already a supply of brass . BTW 7828 is ( THE ) powder for most of the WBY cartridges especially the 270 and 300 also the 7 mm . RL 22 and H 4831 are excellent for the 300 Win ! This load is super hot (over max) but the rifle loves it and I'd never attempt it with another rifle, I worked it up slowly just for that gun because its probably the strongest bolt rifle ever made. In my 26" Rem 700 I use a lighter load of the same powder and get just over 3000 with the same bullet. I've never tried a 175gr bullet. Weatherby is a strange animal and an expensive one. At near max, but not over, I was getting around 3060 FPS out of a 24” barrel with my 300 win mag and Ramshot Magnum. I think I’m going to work up a load with the LRX and Reloder 26, I would expect to get over 3100. FPS with that powder. The 300 weatherby is a huge case with a lot of room for powder, and lots of freebore that can allow you to seat them very long to gain a little more room for powder. It’s a beast.

@@AlaskanBallistics I found you for your 10mm videos and it is great to see you featuring other firearms that I’m also into. Reloading sure is a lot of fun. Some of my loads with a little less powder were down at 5.4 SD. How I get that SD out of a pistol I’ll never know.

Your going the wrong way with powder burn rate go to IMR 4831 or IMR 4350 and Reloader 19 in 300 Win Mag with 175 LRX
@michaelcheshareck32752 жыл бұрын
@@trumpie5399 since the 175 grain LRX is my hunting load I’m just using powders I already have on hand, and 1/2 minute accuracy with well over 3000 FPS is good enough for me until I shoot up what I’ve loaded. If I come across some 4831, 4350, or RL 19 I will definitely give them a try. I was surprised Magnum did so well with how slow it is. With RL 26 and the huge 230 grain Bergers I got 2892 FPS out of a 24” barrel using Hodgdon data, which was too hot and left ejector marks. But it got 2820-2830 with less powder and no signs of pressure. I was pretty shocked at those velocities with no pressure signs with a 24” 300 win mag. I haven’t had time to fine tune it and find the accuracy node, so I may well end up in the 2700s for velocity with my final load.

300 win mag velocity was not measured at the muzzle with a magnetospeed device but rather measured 5 to 10 yards down range with a different type of chronograph. Not going to change the fact that the Weatherby is still faster but if all things were kept equal you wouldve seen different results with an increase in velocity from the Winchester.
@AlaskanBallistics2 жыл бұрын
Get what you get. It wouldn't have made a huge difference.
@BornAgain20192 жыл бұрын
@@AlaskanBallistics I covered that with my statement. But you should've noted the significant difference that results in a 50 to 100 fps increase for the Winchester. In my opinion there are more factors involved in choice of a cartridge than just velocity and resulting energy. First off the 300 win mag uses a standard length receiver the same as the 30/06 family of cartridges which allows it to be chambered in most every model and brand of rifle available today vs the longer magnum length of the Weatherby. This also contributes to a lighter and shorter overall package desirable to most hunters and hunting conditions. And if you dropped to a 24" bbl the Win mag would be less affected. The performance difference between the 2 is significant but the Win mag handles 90% of hunting senarios that a 30 caliber rifle would be used for. Finally the cost and availability of Win mag ammo vs Weatherby isnt even a contest. You'll find 300 Win Mag ammo just about everywhere and at nearly half the cost of Weatherby if you find it at all. There is a reason that the Win mag is still the King of the 30's.
