We call it Medra-Mart at my house. I buy in bulk when things go on sale and I've turned one of the rooms in our basement into my own grocery store. I once bought 20 packages of hamburger meat that were in patties (8 to a pack!) and since it was right after the 4th of July they had them on sale for fifty cents a package! They didn't have a limit so I bought ALL they had at that insane price! I also once bought 3 years worth of tuna in a can since the expectation date was 3 years away and they were only asking 35 cents a can! I figured we could easily go through 3 cans a week without getting tired of it. It's amazing how many ways you can fix tuna! My son was really sad when we ran out.

When you do the math... 3,000 dollars equals out to less then 58 dollars a week for 1 year... It's EASY to blow that kind of money on one nice dinner! You will save so much in the long run especially with the delicious meals you make!
@TheQueensCabinet6 жыл бұрын
It helps so much to have a stocked pantry/freezer to pull from, especially on hectic days. Like you said, just one meal eaten out can take a big bite out of the budget. You'll crack up, I was at the boys college awhile back and got a cup of coffee at the cafeteria.........sit down........they charged me 7 dollars. It wasn't anything fancy, just coffee. I couldn't believe it. I bought the kids those metal coffee mugs that day. LOL Hope you have a great weekend!!!

Never in my life did I think I'd be watching someone else talk about their groceries but this is fascinating to me 😁 I love seeing how people in different cultures cook. We live in north America but are Asian in background. I can safely say I've never bought brown gravy or ranch dressing mix but if it were me, I'd be buying gallons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil. My mother will buy pounds of garlic at a time run it through the food processor to mince it all in one go, then store it in an extra glass jar in oil so we never have to mince individual cloves each time we cook.
@TheQueensCabinet6 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. Ken and I love going to the Asian market on Ord Street in LA, we have been going there for many years. I love going down the aisles and exploring all the new things. That is brilliant of your mom to mince a lot of garlic at one time, we use garlic in just about everything we cook. I love how fresh everything is in Asian markets. Hugs Shelby

Two meat items that go a long way are whole pork loins and boneless c hicken breast. You should be able to find both in the $1.69 to $1.99 range. I slow roast the pork loin in the slow cooker , shred it, add some refried beans, spanish rice and several packets of taco seasoning and it makes a huge batch of pork taco meat. Tortillas are fairly cheap and its so handy to have on hand. I cook the chicken breast in half water half chicken stock and shred it also, then add it to pre boiled carrots, celery and frozen noodles to make a thick soup that I put over inexpensive mashed potatoes. I stay away from red meat until I find chuck roasts and ground hamburger (80/20) in the 1.99 to 2.49 lb range.

I pointed out that the pre covid stock up video was serval months old and I hadn't gone to the store from late January 2020 until about Father's Day because New York was hit so hard with Covid. I literally hadn't gone shopping for over 6 1/2 months during the shortages. Hi Shelby. I saw in comments you did dave Ramsey. We're on step 2,chugging along. Could you do a video of how long it took you to complete step 2,amount of debt, and what your top favorite ways were to cut through corners to get to where you are. Also are you still doing his baby steps? If so what step you are on now. You have given my husband and I hope that will took be able to live like no one else debt free. To have solar and shop big hauls like this! Just find your channel and already loving it! Such an inspiration!

Step 2 was by far the hardest, but keep at it and then all the rest fall into place. We are on 7, and also funding the kids schooling. One of our boys wants to go to Carnegie Melon for his masters, yikes! I told Ken we might need to come out of retirement. LOL Keep up the great work guys!!!

Dam I wish I had that kind of money to spend on food! I’m so jealous! I live 30min from a pricey small grocery store and an hour from a Walmart so I get it but I just can’t afford to do it! I also am a disabled widow with one child at home still so I only have $250 to $300 a MONTH to use for groceries so I have to be careful on what I get! Some of your ideas do help and I’m grateful! God bless you !

Great haul! My ears perked up when you mentioned the grade b vanilla beans. I would love to try making some homemade vanilla. May I ask your source and do you have a recipe for it?
@TheQueensCabinet6 жыл бұрын
Linda I made a video on this because so many requested it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jISWdKiJnLV4aKM Vanilla Extract Ingredients: half gallon Ball canning jar 1 pound Grade B Madagascar Vanilla Beans 8 cup Vodka Sterilize jar in boiling water for ten minutes. Split vanilla beans and add to jar. Fill jar with Vodka and seal. Let sit in dark, cool place in pantry. Shake every month or so. I make mine at the Holidays for the next year, and this recipe makes a beautiful concentrated vanilla extract. The longer it sits, the better it gets.

how long did it take you to get to this point of stocking up ? i’ve been married for 3 years, two babies and can’t seem to stock pile and organize like this. my issue is space and large sums of money to buy the stock pile.
@TheQueensCabinet6 жыл бұрын
Kasey your comment is one of the best questions I have had on my channel. I remember being in your exact position a long long long time ago hahahahaha......Ken and I went through a time when there was more month than money, once we only had 17 dollars to spend on groceries for the two of us for two weeks. Back then you could not charge groceries on your credit card, it was cash and carry. I went to the store and bought all the fixings for bean tostados, I knew that would be cheap. They were delicious, but as the days went by we ran out of cheese, sour cream, avocado, lettuce and tomato. All we had for about ten days was beans and corn tortillas. We ate them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. During those two weeks we had so much to be thankful for. A friend of mine gave me a whole bag of lemons from her tree; I made lemonade, lemon bars, lemon everything. It was amazing how one simple ingredient made such a huge difference. I went to my parents house and picked oranges, and we had orange juice for breakfast every morning. I remember how amazing that fresh orange juice tasted and thinking this must be what rich people drink everyday. :D Someone brought doughnuts into work and instead of taking my usual jelly filled, I chose a maple bar. Ken loves maple bar doughnuts. I wrapped it up to share with him. I found a dollar and some change in my work locker and bought milk on the way home that night. It was such a treat, I was tickled how something so humble brought Ken such joy. Kasey he savored that maple bar with much delight. That experience changed me and Ken, we decided that we wanted to build our pantry up and also get out of debt. I firmly believe that the Lord gives us trials to prepare us, I believe in this case he was preparing us to have a grateful heart, and get our household in order. The night before payday, we were in bed thinking about what we would have for dinner the next night, I knew I married the right guy when Ken said he had been craving bean tostados and could we have that for dinner.......we laughed for about 5 minutes straight. We had both worked some overtime the previous two weeks, so when we did get our paychecks we had a little extra money. We took some of it and did a mini pantry stock up. I was way more mindful in getting the basics, each ingredient I added opened the possibilities of making more and more recipes. Peanut butter, tuna, flour, pasta, oatmeal, tomatoes......every time I added something, there were more things I could make. The rest of the extra money was able to pay off some debt. We continue this model, and we saw our pantry grow and our debt get smaller. It felt great the both of us working towards the same goals and seeing progress. You really see progress about the 4th month into it. My suggestion to you is to sit down with your husband and see if there is even 20 dollars extra that you could invest in your pantry each payday, above and beyond your current grocery budget. In about 4 months you will find that you have even more wiggle room in you food budget to stock up because your pantry is starting to get stocked up with basics. It will just get easier and easier. Keep investing that 20 dollars and buy things that are on sale that you guys normally use. Keep investing in your pantry, and when that is full get your freezer stocked, then baby wipes and diapers etc. Also meal plan and try not to go out to eat during this first four months, and hubby has to brown bag lunch for work. You will be amazed how much money you save. Get your husband to agree to just 4 months of not eating out, pinky swear it. If he normally drives through Starbucks each morning to work, out of habit, try and come up with a solution that can be made at home for much cheaper. If he eats fast food for lunch, pack his lunch the night before and include a note how happy you are that he is getting your finances in order. Encourage one another. Finally, start building a recipe binder. The first recipe I put in mine was my mom's pizza dough recipe. Pizza Dough -1Cup hot water -1 tablespoon sugar -1 packet dry yeast -1 1/2 Tablespoon olive oil -2 1/2 cups flour -1 teaspoon salt Mix water, sugar and yeast in a large bowl and let rest for 5-10 minutes until yeast is activated. Add oil, flour and salt. Mix to form dough ball, and then knead for 5 minutes. Let dough rest until it doubles in size. Roll dough out on a floured surface and form into round circle. I have a video on how to make ahead freezer pizzas. Instead of going out to pizza, if you can make your own it will save so much. It might just turn into a Friday night family tradition for your children! Wouldn't that be great!! Here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn3OeX2Ef8uibcU As you build your recipe binder, you will grow your own tried and true recipes that your family loves. In doing so you are creating memories for your children. So beautiful! Kasey I hoped I helped encourage you, just know, you guys got this if you work as a team. Slow and steady wins this race. Ken and I have had a head start, we have been doing this almost 30 years........if you guys aren't familiar with Dave Ramsey, he has a great plan to get debt free. Step 2 is the hardest for sure, and cooking meals at home helps you get through it so much easier. After that you guys will be well on your way! The end result is not having a stocked pantry or having all your bills paid, it is simply freedom. Wishing you all the best Love Shelby

What a wonderful reply! I started to do that about a month ago. Each week I take a small amount of money to stockpile. Some weeks I can only spare 5.00 so I got a bunch of can veg's from Walmart for 38 cents each. Other weeks I was able to do up to 20.00 and got whole tomatoes for my Sunday dinners Walmart had them for 67 cents a can. I love how you put it Invest in your pantry. Just in a few weeks, I have a bunch of pasta 77 cents a box from Walmart, breadcrumbs, and tomatoes for sauce and canned vegs. I already see how it is helping us. I was with my job for 12 years and due to a merge lost my job and have had to make many changes but it always seems to work out. :)

danielle r Danielle you are very smart and yes even a little here and there adds up over time. I pray that the Lord Blesses you and your family. There was a channel here on KZbin called Minbound that used to show what he was able to get each month with 20 dollars. He lived on a small income, and he would cook from scratch. I loved to watch as his pantry grew each week, in a year or so it was completely stocked. It was sad to see his channel go, it was such an inspiration. I love that you shared and allowed yourself to be vulnerable. It says a lot about you. Much love Shelby
