Your video gave me the motivation to do my 98s lexan headlights. Mine were a yellowed white so I had to do them. They had clearcoat peel as well but they look 100 times better. Thank you for this video

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I loved my gt. Unfortunately I moved out of state and after paying 500 for a company to flatbed it up to me ,when it arrived it looked like they took it joyriding and beat the hell out of the transmission as a result because day two driving it after it arrived it drove not even 4 miles before it woulded respond in any gear .in drive it would just rev high like it was in neutral still so that was the end of it's run. I ended up junking it for mere pennies . I Couldn't figure out what exactly needed to be fixed or replaced. All I know is it ran flawlessly before i let that company put it on a flatbed and drive it to my new address. I washed it every week so when it arrived and I saw tire spun dirt on the quarter panels I knew some assh@#e must have taken her for a spin before delivering it to me. Anywho .enjoy your lights .take a picture if you want I'd like to see how it turned out

Guys buy headlight restoration kit, sticky 800,1000,1200 grit sand paper use any 18v drill (not 110v too much rpm) and sand it, it took me less than 1h to do this

I have a 95 3000gt SL which I painted grey. it was originally green, so now I have a grey car with green lexan headlights. could you kind of explain to me how you did this? did you do the baking method and pry the plastic off of the lexan and sandpaper it? I'm really stuck here.

Chandler Dubberly haha I'm in that same boat

In order to separate the plastic you have to use the baking method. Its actually pretty easy, good luck

Hey Ryan, you did a very good job! I'm also trying to robomod my lexans but they're not coming out as good as yours. I'm doing 400, 800, and then finishing off with 1200. I then spray Acrylic Enamel Clearcoat, did you also spray clearcoat or did you just use the scratch remover and then polished them?
@rdavisct869 жыл бұрын
ArabFather no clearcoat, it will fog up if you try to use spray can clearcoat. just scratch remover and polish

I had a 94 with the glass headlights and then i got in a wreck and now theyre busted, bought new headlights but theyre lexan...

Just bought a pair of glass headlights for 225$. You just gotta keep looking trust me i did not want to pay 400$ for a pair either but then these came up on ebay and i jumped on them. I say i got a pretty good deal but be patient and keep looking but these look good either way 👍
@shadowxp2110 жыл бұрын
Hey ryan nice job on the headlights. I want to do mine too, but don't know if I should buy another pair, in case I fu***k the original ones. Do you really have to spend lots of hours sanding?
@rdavisct8610 жыл бұрын
thanks, the first sanding down took about 8 hours straight, the second light took maybe 3. guess maybe i got better at it by the second one idk. it was a bitch yeah but as long as you are patient and have a whole day free and dont need to drive your gt, youll be fine.

what kind of sand paper ( grit) did you use? also what level brake fluid?
@rdavisct8610 жыл бұрын
800,1000, then 2000 grit. start from 800 spending the most time with 800 then to the rest.Dot 3 brake fluid. the fluid helps loosen the paint making it easier to sand. just pour a decent amount in headlight housing,let it work in for a couple minutes and then start sanding with it in there.after i used turtle wax Scratch&Swirl remover to clear out the scratches.If you can,get a mini sander to reach those small width areas. i used my big one and most sanding i had to do by hand. a small one will let you reach the corners better.

It looks like you sanded down the insert an you should have removed it.
@rdavisct8610 жыл бұрын
Mitsubishi did not make inserts for my year. that was the earlier models that had glass. my year and later has lexan/plastic headlights and the color is painted on the inside of the lexan,hence me having to sand it.

is it for sale
@rdavisct868 жыл бұрын
+essam qaeen No sir,it is not for sale. it has been sitting for a little over a year as the tranny is no good anymore(atleast i think its the tranny). what happened was one day i went to drive it and noticed when i put it in Reverse and pressed the accelerater,it would wait a second and then go,like the pedal would go down before the car would even move,likea delayed response. then the next day i got 2 miles up the road and the best way i an describe what happend is it felt like the pedal would disconnect from the rest of the car,all the sudden it would rec high rpms and the car would just coast,i would have to turn it off and barely press the pedal when back on to get it to move but as soon as it would go past about 15mph i would feel the pedal disconnect again an it would just rev high but barely move,i had to have it towed and its been siting since, not my daily driver anymore and i have not had the time nor money to get a new (used) tranny in there or have it rebuilt. i want to keep it because of its value and its in good condition still (about 99K miles on it,the body is mint,minor mods,etc) if anyone thinks i do NOT need a new tranny and has had the same experience PLEASE ! LET ME KNOW!! . i knew before it became undriveable it threw about 6 codes, one was cylinder misfire.i lost my job and couldnt keep up with her maintenance for a few months before it became undrivable , to keep her running perfectly :-( she got neglected before she went.

+ryan davis the spring from the disc clutch fell off, it's not the transmission, once you take the transmission out look for the spring or change the whole disc if it's not much life left.
