The GTO was every bit as quick as the GTR and faster than the Supra at that time, the Japanese Highway Patrol used them back in the 90's, they were sooo fast with a few simple mods!

As somebody about to buy a 3000GT I can confirm. They can get to just south of 160 stock and on a proper launch can manage 0-60 as low as 4.7 seconds (at least that's the quickest I've seen stock). With proper supporting mods these things will do well over 220 with 0-60s of below 1.9 seconds at 1000+ HP. It'll do it reliably too and for far chear than a built Supra. If you tune the suspension correctly they'll handle like they're on rails too. The GTO/3000GT/Stealth really is the most underrated JDM legend.

You can get a good 3000GT VR-4 for approx. $12k. Definitely one of the best cars you can get for under $15k

As an owner of a VR4, There is tons of misinformation. I guarantee you I wouldn't have built one if I didn't think they were a good car. They were the fastest of the 90s its just it didn't get the exposure from media and thus was written off as slow n heavy (when they are only 400IB's more than a supra with a lot more comforts you can rip out and they were def not slow)

NSX is not the Japanese Lambo, or the Japanese Ferrari or anything.... NSX is above ALL. Honda made that thing with passion. And then comes every other car in the World. Building something fast is easy. Building something that is fast enough for 20 f*cking years is crazy. Honda managed that.

@cubanprid3 1. It is a GTO, not an 3000GT (You know the difference???) 2. It is not an SL... 3. Do you by chance recognize that this Video is japanese and has nothing to do with any US-Model of the 3000GT whatsoever?? SL and Base were made for the US Market in the first place. You are right. It´s is not a VR-4, because thats what the US 3000GT are called (TwinTurbo). It is a GTO MR. (if you know what that is?)

GTO was the only car that was fast with out scrutinizing the comfort. seems like the others couldn't pull that off and they sacrifice comfort for the speed or if they add the comfort they would end up slower. beside you don't need to strip the car to bone to get it lighter .it can easily get it to same weight as supra with still having every luxury item in the car.

well..considering honda announced that they won't release the new NSX until it can get 7:30 or better on the nurburgring, (which means it won't come out until it's faster than the r35) i totally agree with you.. the NSX will be faster than the R35..

You're right. NSX was the very reason Ferrari and Lamborghini had to raise the bar. Even in this age, the NSX is able to shame the very best on the track. The car was never about straight line speed or quarter mile sprints. It was a pure sportscar. Gordon Murray, the guy who designed the McLaren F1 said that once he drove the NSX, all the benchmarks he had in mind, the Porsches, the Ferraris vanished all together.

Have you even driven the two? I own a Supra, and it handles great! For a car that is 20 years this year and can ceep up with todays sportscars, that´s pretty amazing! I love the Supra =) But i guess everyone have a different taste =)

Note that every car horsepower is stated 280 hp. It is gentlemen agreement for Japanese supercar not to exceed that number. But the actual hp could be bigger. Supra & GT3000 must be 320 hp. NSX 290 hp. GTR 350, Evo made approx. 300.

@bristlebb let's see the clip. the lap time on supra is a little quicker than the gto since it make more power and it's lighter, but stock supra will never run 1:6 on this track. i have seen many videos and the lap time on all the videos were in 1:8xx .

@yagam1 well you are comparing striped car with race tuned suspension against a car that's is built to be comfortable and fast at the same time. in U.S magazine first gen vr4 out lapped the u.s nsx if you don't know it i can find it for you too if you don't believe it. don't look at the nsx-r here. u.s nsx is no where near that car. you don't know much about GTOs. just search for Puma GTO and see how it was out lapping all the GT-Rs in N1 racing.

Trying to compare a Corvette with a Honda NSX, Nissan GTR, Mazda RX7. The Corvette is a powerful car with a very big engine, poor fuel efficiency. But the japanese cars are ENGINEERING, small but very powerfull engines (+100 Hp per liter, some without a turbo or supercharger), very affined suspensions systems, a lot of time inverted in development, the result, amazing cars, with an amazing handling and a great Power-Weight relation.
