After reviewing many YT videos, I selected the SunGoldPower 3000W inverter/charger. I purchased it for my Class B Camper Van. The electrical system in my van is powered by a 520aH LiFePO4 battery bank. The main consumers are a microwave, TV, laptop, and an 8000BTU air conditioner. My choice of the SunGoldPower was based on the charging output, and the capacity of the pure sine wave inverter to support my devices while boondocking (camping off grid)-- and the price. It has all the attributes of some of the more expensive units available. When I received the unit, I was very pleased at the quality of construction, and care taken in packaging it. The installation was easy, and the instructions provided were top-notch (Professor Hobo was spot-on!). Even though I have 30+ years of building and using similar systems, good instructions are very useful. Now, they include a 2 year warranty, matching what appears to be the industry standard. The unit is excellent value for money, and the technical support after the sale - Outstanding. I highly recommend the product, the company - Sun Gold Power, and their support team! Unfortunately after several trips in my camper/van, the inverter stopped. The charger continued to function 100%. I immediately contacted the company and they assigned me a personal representative. Together we got "right-on-it." Their email assistance provided several simple checks to help determine and isolate the problem. Opening the inverter was easy and the unit appeared to be well laid out and solidly constructed. A real plus in my opinion. The guidance was helpful and clear. The problem proved to be the mainpower supply board. They sent one out from a US-based warehouse, and delivery was within a few days. Again, they provided helpful support for the removal and installation of the board and a set of test procedures, to check all was well before I reinstalled in my rig. Within a little time, I had the system repaired and reinstalled in my van. Everything is functioning 100%. I highly recommend the 3000Watt inverter/charger and the Sun Gold Power Support Team. Thank you Sun Gold Power! THANK YOU Professor Hobo!

Bought this. Having used it for a few months, one issue: -the charger is inefficient above a 50A output, and not great below 50A. As in, a 90A output at 13.5v (1215W) pulls 17-18A at 120v (2100W). That's 58%. Below 50A efficiency comes in around 70%.

Excellent review! I have a question about adding solar to this setup. Would you simply connect the output from a solar controller between the inverter-charger and the battery? Basically, you'd connect the solar controller output directly to the battery (after any fuses or cutoff switch). Is that right? I'm wondering if there would be any issues with the combined power coming from the inverter-charger PLUS the solar controller, while connected to shore-power AND solar. Thanks.

Nice in-depth review. As for the closing image you showed, I would have to guess.... You've poured a few yards of concrete for your uprights leg sections of a "New Ground Mount Solar Array" as they look very similar to what I did a few years back for my ground mount solar array up at my property in Washington. Looks like you had a little help with that skid-steer though, where as in my adventure I did not have that luxury. I ended up digging those four 2.5' x 4' holes by hand, not much fun. I was running into huge rocks every inch, so yes it was literally by hand. Looks good Professor, are those 6" uprights? I was able to do mine with 4" rigid galvanized pipe in a 4 legged configuration using "Iron Ridge's" online tool to help me design my array.

Higher voltage is more efficient as it requires less current for equivalent wattages, putting less demand on wires. It's why power lines use high voltage over large distances.
@destro513 Жыл бұрын
Couple things here. First my Sungold 2K unit burns 5.5 amps at idle on a 24 volt system. This is something like 145 watts just sitting doing nothing. Next the battery charger can't be turned on or off. it only can be engaged when the battery drops below 10 or in my case on my unit 20 volts. This isn't where you want to start charging your lead acid battery bank. Be nice if you could turn it on when you have power. I had mine running on the generator all day about 9 hours and it made it to absorption charge (light flashing) but never kicked over to float. I'm not sure if I'll even use this unit as it is not kind to your battery bank. I'll probably keep it around to start an air compressor or run the big ac unit but I best get my solar hooked up before I burn up this new GC2 Cosco 6 volt batteries. I may try an modify the charger on this to be able to turn it on and off at will and have it shut the unit down at 50% DOD, guessing around 24.8 volts. Plan on building a small generator charger for it using a 24volt alternator. Might play around with doing a pma unit
@destro513 Жыл бұрын
Also power saving mode is pretty useless and my 24v unit was kicking at about 17 amps when charging. Not 90, not 45 and not even 20. My stupid big box smart charger from 20 years ago can do that. So let's say I have 1200 watts of panels charging 8 6v batteries with my 75ah lifepo4 bank in there as well. Maybe I could use the power saving mode but I'm not trusting this thing for more than an hour or two with me not right there. No running off grid internet and cameras with this unit unless you have a huge solar array charging a massive bank of batteries in that case you might as well have an 8k split phase
