Bloke and Chap go and shoot the 2018 300m rifle Feldschiessen - The Chap with his Sturmgewehr 57 off a bipod, and The Bloke with his Schmidt-Rubin G11 - with no aids to accurate shooting! Who will win, and will The Bloke even hit the target?

Don't feel bad, Chap. I know plenty of people who wouldn't attempt a 300 meter target with a scope, let alone iron sights. The Swiss competition is a rather hard school in that regard, and I would say that both you and the Bloke are well above the average of most general shooters. Certainly in the original martial sense of the match you were effective on target.

Speaking of "hard school". Most of my colleagues from our local shooting club consider any result below 62 as rather mediocre, unless you were shooting with a K11/31 or IG in an unsupported stance - like Bloke did. (You need at least 57 points to get the medal called "Kranz" if you are between 21 to 59 years old).

That Sir was an excellent example of a superb Rifleman. A G-11, open sights, just superb. To your shooting companion. Beautiful weapon, you may, possibly, have a rifle that as it gets a little dirty there is an impact change. Oh and you should in no way be embarrassed because you shot exceptionally well. Just not your day to win.

For the 1911, would you simply do a hasty sling were you to use it? Any way to rig a loop? It’s awesome to see these kind of 300m shooting videos with irons. Unfortunately most people in Missouri only focus on hunting distances (0-200 yd) rather than this kind of competition.

a 2.2kg trigger seems not so bad, i did some shoot with a MAS 49 and it has a 4kg trigger, there is a lighter trigger for the 49/56 at 3.5kg (numbers from the army parts catalog) and i believe it is the same trigger for the 49/56 MSE (modifié saint-etienne) which was a modification for competition shooting (mostly an adjustable stock with pistol grip and finer iron sights) so yeah, 2.2 doesn't seem that bad
@Haaraff
@Haaraff 6 жыл бұрын
The 2200 g are with winter trigger, just beneath the trigger guard. Without winter trigger it takes 4.4 kg.Before competitions, rifles are inspected by gunsmiths and trigger weight is tested with a go/no go test weight, and usually a 2200 g weight is used www.schiessanlage.ch/pdf/Waffenkontrolle%20SBV_Version%202010.pdf

Hello 'Bloke'. Can you tell us about those 'sound deadening tubes'. What is their purpose? What is the electrical connection? Do they truly deaden the sound, don't appear to in the video? Are they commercial items? Thanks. Do keep producing your videos, entertaining and informative. Peter.
@Blackstone9x19
@Blackstone9x19 6 жыл бұрын
Haven't shot through those tubes myself, but have shot at another Swiss range with electronic scoring. The electrical connection may be to tell the scoring system that a shot was fired from this firing point. This means that if someone else shoots on your target (which happens more than you think), it won't be scored for you. I could be wrong, but it's what makes the most sense to me.
@thebotrchap
@thebotrchap 6 жыл бұрын
That's right, it is an acoustic sensor which correlates with the impact sensor on the target frame. Since only two types of ammo are fired through a set range of rifles, the velocities are known, hence if the frame doesn't register an impact after so many milliseconds, it counts as a miss.
@BlokeontheRange

STGw 57 doesn't really exist in the USA. Very disappointing. I have wanted one for some time. Very strange rifle.

The definition of hipster must have changed recently. I'll have you know that was good strong Yorkshire Tea, not some homeopathic jungle weed handpicked by free roaming sloths high on acid.

Very nice results! I am impressed. But this is not a real Feldschiessen. You need to attend a Feldschiessen in the Canton of Freiburg where they are organised regionally with 1500-2000 attendees organised in series of 60 participants on natural ground (as you said) in parallel with commanded fire as you had. THAT is a REAL Feldschiessen. :-)

I take it you didn’t see our Murtenschiessen and Neueneggschiessen vids then 😉 Big crowds there too. One day we’ll make it to an actual Schutzenfest.

Sling = ming. Learn to live without the crutch.
@BlokeontheRange
@BlokeontheRange 6 жыл бұрын
Erm, it's not a crutch, it's absolutely essential for properly accurate shooting if you're not allowed a rest or a bipod.

Bloke on the Range - "but with the blast shield down I can't even see..." The sling is a range shotist's affectation. Before you know it you'll be wanting optics, bags and rimless cartridges.
@BlokeontheRange
@BlokeontheRange 6 жыл бұрын
As you say, it's a range shooting affectation. The kind of shooting being done here is exactly that. Sling support has no place on a battlefield, but that's not where we're shooting - we're doing affected target shooting. You'll note in the mad minute series I have not used a sling, for this very reason.

@@BlokeontheRange Thanks for that bit about the sling. In Northern Ireland the soldiers (loose word, includes RM and others) only seemed to have the sling attached to the butt of their FNs whether they were on static guard or hanging on the back of a Land Rover as it went quickly through the town. The other end was a sewn loop. They put the right hand through that.

can you stop cheating by using the winter trigger which has less kilos ? This is meant ONLY in winter with gloves.

Your video is zero and a very bad example, for example we do not shoot at FAS 57 with the bipods in front that if it has been modified for this position is made for burst shooting !!

When on earth was the last time you attended a competition? Most people shoot with it in the forward position these days, and have for ages!
