I recently bent my flexplate so the torque converter was pulled a half inch toward the motor and I drove about 30-45 miles like that. It started having problems from a dead stop where the RPM would rise but barely any forward movement was happening then it would very quickly slam forward 4 or 5 times before taking off normally like nothing ever happened. As soon as I got it home I removed the trans and put a spare flexplate I had on but when I drained the oil it was saturated with very fine metallic particles. I first thought it was water because it looked opaque and like chocolate milk but now I know better. I flushed the fluid with Mercon V and that seafoam transtune stuff to some success. It has pretty much cleared up completely but I am left with these two things: 1. 2 to 3 has a long shift that is rough-ish when it does shift if the shift happens above 3500 RPM 2. A low pitched whirling that is only present when the vehicle is moving forward under the power of the torque converter alone with no gas. I need your advice on whether or not to buy a new torque converter. I don’t want to sink anymore $ in this thing if the rest of the trans is likely doomed. Today I heard a short metal on metal scrape when I was coming to a stop that seemed to come from the torque converter. Please help me.

I bought a 2004 Xterra for 500 bucks with a 3.3 v6 with 277,000 miles on it, this thing is like brand new inside body is real nice, everything works on this vehicle but reverse! The 4x4 works the OD works the fluid in the trans is clean but reverse doesnt move the vehicle at all, the RPM chages slightly like its going to do something but it never attemps to move. a rans shop said the reverse band is out but does this trans even have a reverse band? somebody told me theres a reverse soilinoid and theres some kind of metal thing thats rides next to the pump that centrifically controlls the line rise pressure and it gets worn out or sticks. I cant see putting 2500 bucks into this truck for a trans because thats about what im going to sell it for. I see rebuild kits for this trans under 300 bucks, i have rebuilt many engines before so i think if i had a manual i could rebuild one, i may have to get a few specialized tools but if i could fix this thing for under 500 bucks i could make a few bucks, My daily driver is a 2001 Xterra but 2 wheel drive with only 130,000 miles, this 2004 drives as good or better than ours even though it has almost 300,000 miles on it, the original owner was a single guy, i dont thing anybody ever rode in the other seats, the headliner is new and hes definatley serviced the engine regularly

Hi Stephen, I have a 1993 Mazda MPV van (165k miles) with this same transmission (R4ael). Mine recently started downshifting harder than normal when coasting to a stop. Next I noticed the hold light blinking and trans would not go into 4 gear. (also noticed the Ck Eng light flicker 3-4 times while this was happening) When I got up to 50mph I let off throttle and trans downshifted hard enough to bark the rear tires. All this happened on a short 5 mile trip on an extremely hot day....the next day all seems to be working fine. Fluid level was good. No slipping was detected. Does this sound like a solenoid sticking, dirty filter or possibly a modulator problem......or something much worse $$$. I will R&R filter/fluid tomoro but, that is about my limit due to health problems. Just wondering if it is time to put my old 23 year old work horse out to pasture or is there something easy I could do to save her...thanks for any advice Chuck Butner

Keith 90 300zx n/a What causes the car not to downshift? It will shift up but not back down at a stop it’s like in 2nd or 3rd You can shift it manually Everything new Pump etc only real thing used is case

Has it had this problem from the moment of the rebuild, or did it work fine after the rebuild and this is a new symptom, AND what problem prompted the rebuild to begin with?

replace the sun gear and planetary set after they went blow per say ---hand alot of metal -----159k ---- everything is basically new but case /shafts and few steel ---i used the MASTER kit from Cobra--2wd kit i have no codes --i thought of getting a 14 pin reader --any thoughts converter is new too

had alot of metal---it was slipping 2to3 esp on a dwn shift up a hill When I do the protocol it flashes for 2seconds then 16 quick flashes I’ve used 4 different tcu Only one was same # as original I’m stumped

Under most circumstances, if you can manually shift it, but it will not do it on its own, its a electrical, or valve body failure.

Keith Perkins Well I snatched up a used trans for zero but has 245k on it Pulled mine new/rebuilt Installed old junk yard one and car runs great but no 3rd lol I was looking at all my recipe for the trans rebuild And something stood out Since everything is new “Valve body cleaned” “No work required” Guess I chase down a new valve body There is no passing gear also

Good info brotha. Hows the tt vert? Gonna do more z videos soon? Also i got some questions about sizing up rod and crank bearing for the vg30de. I got one i need to rebuild. Might need a new rod or two just due to slight rod knock. Wasnt drastic but bad enough to replace the motor until i can rebuild. And thats why id like to pick ur brain if u dont mind =]

hey Stephen Perkins, can you tell me if the input shafts on the RE4R01A transmissions interchangable with other RE4R01A transmissions? i got an r32 skyline RE4R01A and i got an r34 RE4R01A, wanna know if the input shafts are interchangeable between the two. let me know what you think. they are both 4 speed auto, only difference is one uses 3 bolt converter and one uses 4 bolt converter.

I've got a 1999 frontier with the re4r01a transmission in it and third and fourth gear have went out. Am i able to replace the transmission on my truck with one out of the 240zx/300zx? Will bolt patterns line up? Electrical plugs?

Steven Wheeler yes they will bolt up but I believe tailshafts to be different, causing a mismatch of driveshaft length. Just make sure to measure first.

@@L1Training have you ever got a hissing souñd for a transmission (sound like a pump steering pump low on oil) only get the noise when the car in a driving car and foot on the brakes.
