@@jgvtc559 as far as I know these cards were designed for Ethereum mining, and my guess is that they have very well tuned bioses tailored for maximum grinding at minimum power cost. When I was testing it I didn't undervolt or overclock anything - just installed the modded drivers and left the control panel settings at installation default. It could be that a tailored mining card happens to be a good gaming card too, but it could also be aggressively tuned binned chips. I wonder if the Samsung memory might help as well.. 🤔

Am a fan of the RX 6600Ms that have come out of China, was intrigued by the Nvidia models but didn't know how well Frankendrivers worked. My brother has the 6600M and it works amazing in his old Dell Optiplex build. It was easy to use the supported AMD drivers with it, but I would say go with Nvidia if you want more performance than a 6600. There are many more high end mobile chip cards from Nvidia. Great video!

"All the settings cranked as high as they go" and DLSS *performance* hurt my brain. WHY? Please don't benchmark like that. Note if you are already CPU bound, DLSS does not help (but will add pixilation/noise/blurriness). But that is a cool Graphics Card. I assume the GPUs were removed from bad laptops/motherboards in order to make the cost viable for building a new Carb from them. So the GPU chip was probably already used before they even added it to this new Board. That made sense back during the Crypto GPU apocalypse. Though I don't like being tied to the one guy updating the drivers... subscription or no subscription. But worst case you just keep using the last good one if that stops getting updated, I guess.

Sorry! Just trying to get as high performance as possible! I should have used quality or not at all really.. I don't know if the chips were used or not - I'd imagined they were just bought in bulk as overflow stock on the cheap. Being tied to the one person's hacked drivers is a pain, but I imagine that with some very time consuming comparison of files, the ones with changes in could be identified and then it could be done by anyone! Nah man, it’s brilliant. Yes you have to jump through driver hoops but it’s brilliant. Also, I’ve bought some AMD AliExpress cards and they’re legit too. The drivers are detected imminently though so you might want to check those out too. So far I’ve bought a “Elsa” Rx 5700 xt for $97 brand new (or “repurposed”, who knows) for a friend and it works AMAZINGLY. I also bought a “millse” rx 5600 xt for another friend and same thing it’s also amazing.

@@RetroKomodo yeah the base power consumption is insane on the 5700xt Undervolting helps a lot I recommended the card to my friend and sent him an undervolt guide for that gpu and he tweaked it a bit, he runs around 160-175w now and only has around 3-4 fps decrease in heaven benchmark at 1440 max settings for around 50w less power

And why?? Surely the end result would be them selling more? I bought a 4070 a few weeks back and one reason why was because it used less power than the high end AMD cards. The next week the 4070 prices fell - which is irritating - but ignoring the slight buyers remorse after overspending on it, I have it at 70% limited in MSI Afterburner, and I'm still getting 60 FPS vsync on Starfield at 4k using the dlss 3.5 mod. Using mostly ultra settings.. I don't like the money grabbing nature of the company, but I sure do love it's products. They could definitely be more efficient and cheaper though 😜

@@RetroKomodo thats because their core audience doesn't care for efficiency. the gaming market competition is almost solely about that juicy juicy top avg framerate. so they squeeze every bit of exxponential power draw growth into the card. i m with you there in the power limit. almost no difference in actual gaming experience. if nvidia started making their feature inclusive "lower end" models with more ram, like they used to, they would be able to cut consumer cost by a lot, just by virtue of dlss. but they simply dont want to.

Absolutely. I have no idea what this seller is thinking.. £155 then £355 then back to £155 then up to £455? I'd like to think a bunch were sold from the interest in my video, but I might be giving myself too much credit! £185 from China seems to be the next best option as the full desktop version goes for around £250 used, and between £270-£300 new. Considering the apparent small difference in performance with the proper card, £185 is still pretty amazing for 1080 or limited 1440 gaming. I've got some more testing to do so there will be a third video on this card!

@@RetroKomodo £185 for a "new" card is great, although the warranty / returns when talking about China some 10,000 miles away is questionable. As is driver support, present and future. For under £150 you're getting a used 5700XT, much faster card. Possibly even a used 6650XT for around £180 also! Some 20% faster than a 5700XT in most cases, 40-50% faster than this 3060M.

I've always wanted the laptop cores in a desktop card. Same with CPUs, the "mobility" parts are always interesting for their efficiency. Unfortunately when you choke desktop parts of power they don't perform as well as the laptop parts. You'd assume it'd just be a firmware thing.

Great video! Love your content style and you should keep doing more of it. As for some suggestions, it's possible that the performance may have been bottle-necked by your motherboard. The ASUS H81M-PLUS is a PCIe Gen 3 motherboard, and the RTX 3060(M) is PCIe Gen 4. Although it is backwards compatible with Gen 3, you lose a bit of performance in that compatibility. Regardless, seeing how well it performed and given the price you paid for it, it's still an excellent solution. I'm not an NVIDIA person myself, I live for AMD, but NVIDIA is totally capable of making high-performance low-budget cards, but they don't because they want to raise their profit gap.

At least on aliexpress the 12 gb variants seem to cost only barely more than the 6 gb ones other than one single very cheap 3600m 6gb listing - though the rx 6600m is cheaper otherwise and doesn't need frankendrivers afaik and should give similar performance so would in most cases be a better deal if you plan to buy from there and don't mind amd.

Not sure about availability across the pond, but in the US at least the DVI only RX 470s are pretty common at $40 or even a bit lower, like $35 or so. Going for a card at that performance/budget level the single DVI out and need to flash the BIOS to 580 clocks is pretty worth it I think. Unfortunately the 8GB cards pretty much start at $50 to $60 regardless

This is so cool! I have a 3060 laptop paired with a quadcore i5 and I love, though I am sadly limited by its cooling, after heating up, the card only uses 60-70W maximum to keep temps in check. And Nvidia rated it at 105W, I know because it says so in the nvidia config panel. Oh what could have been...

My main rig has a 3070 ti power limited to 80%! It's far too hungry otherwise. Plus I put a 60 FPS cap on. Not measures that are needed on the 3060m though being capped at 80w by miners. I wish I could find more!

I was bored and browsing Aliexpress (don't do that so much these days, there's a lot less incentive when VAT is being charged and stuff is very often more expensive than buying it in Europe) and noticed the absolute flood of these 3060M PCIE cards. Serves Nvidia right, they should just sell their GPUs on the open market for board makers to do with as they please but their highly restrictive policies lead to this kind of workaround. I have been waiting for the next generation but haven't seen it yet, are Nvidia more careful about laptop GPU supply now? weirdly it seems completely limited to the 3060M, never seen any other model put on a card like this.

I just got the same card for $100, the only issue with it is that only the HDMI port functions. Not an issue for me because I'm going to use it for my living room gaming PC and the CPU I chose to pair it with has integrated graphics so I'll use my mobo If I need a secondary display. The only issue is I might decide to throw it in a pre built and Dell disables your motherboards display ports if you are using a gpu for NO FUCKING REASON. That OEM nonsense really pisses me off when it has absolutely no reason to exist and turns an awesome option for a cheap Gaming PC into a non optimal build.

If mine had one of each I wouldn't be as upset with it I also took another look at the budget motherboard I was planning to pair it with and it only has a DVI output on motherboard which I guess really isn't an issue because I can convert DVI to HDMI DisplayPort VGA for whatever it doesn't matter because it's going to be for a secondary display anyway. Even if mine had two hdmis or even just two display ports I would be happier with it. @@RetroKomodo it's the same you have the same card as me because I would send that to you to mess around with LOL but I'm definitely going to get some more in the future if I see them at a decent price and I have no problem letting you mess around with them when I do! Since they're pretty cheap anyway if something happens to it it's all good but you seem to really have a knack for the whole video side of this I love the hardware and I love playing with it but I don't have it in me to constantly benchmark different cards and turn it's into a form of media it's bad enough I have to benchmark all my builds all the time anyway that I sell LOL

Of course people would try and haggle me down, but the amount of people doing it stopped me wanting to build any more.. Worst case scenario where you have a power supply from 2000s and it claims to be 400-450w while the 5v rails are like 25A and the 12v rail is like 18A or slightly lower on 1 rail only. Yeah thats the worst case scenario, if you ask me. Seen worse that this psu when people tried to put a 1060 inside his pc while his psu was only like 18-20A on 12v and his pc for some dang reason didnt crashed. 9:18 Seller bro must be dreaming or something.

Sure your average framerate was around 60, but it was choppy as hell and the lows were closer to 15fps in some cases

200? The 3060m is locked to a maximum of 80w! You should be fine with that PSU. I didn't overclock it but it should be easy using MSI Afterburner. Use the 537.13 Frankenstein driver from that GitHub page.

@@RetroKomodo UE4 is known for shader compilation stutters and BL3 is a UE4 game. Unfortunately most PC ports that are made in UE4 have trouble stuttering when the shaders compile while you are playing. Yes it is useful regardless :)

That's exactly what it is, and normally I wouldn't buy it either - but I saw it and was curious. It being 'garbage' is I suppose a personal opinion thing, as lots of people seem to see it as the opposite. I guess one man's garbage is another man's treasure ;)

The laptop 3060 is superior silicon compared to the desktop version. Instead of defective ga104 and ga106 chips with 28 SM, the laptop 3060 only uses defect free ga106, with the full 30 SM enabled. The laptop 3060 is more powerful clock for clock than the desktop. The funniest thing is this gpu is capped at 75w in the video, but on laptops it would average +120w and would be much faster, and paired with way better cpus than the junk used here.

@@niebuhr6197 it's true. It was junk.. That's why I put it in my editing machine for the second video where it did a lot better! The 75w cap is baked into the bios so not something under my control - I believe there are many people who have tried and failed to update the bios for things like normal driver installation and higher power.. but so far I haven't found anyone who did it.

It very obviously is not garbage though. The only real downside to it is that the driver needs to be this frankendriver special and there's no guarantee these will continue to be updated (although the subscription fee does help that long I'm sure). Nvidia should be selling the regular desktop 3060/Ti at a price that makes these frankenstein cards irrelevant but they don't so these happened.
