Well sir, I have 125 SSTs I was using for 300BO. I have a bunch of Benchmark. I reckon I am going to be testing those in 308. Thank you sir. You are a wealth of information.

Use the 125 gr SST in my .30-06 SPR with VV N550 for 3259 fps. Excellent accuracy and velocity from a Tikka T3 Lite SS with a 22" barrel. Took my biggest buck a few years ago in SoTX with that load and rifle. Good luck and stay safe!!! 😉😉😉

Thanks for posting and letting us see your results. Id like to try the Barnes ttsx in 130 grain in the future after my 168 run out. Though from what i hear from our friends on the other side of the frog pond in England, thier prety nasty on deer, so they hunt with the heavier rounds to slow the bullet down to do less damage.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho800911 ай бұрын
I don't really know until I try the 125's on deer. But the 150 SST's do a fine job indeed.
@johnparker913910 ай бұрын
I wish the SST held together better as well. Have you tried the federal fusion bullets?
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho800910 ай бұрын
Yes, 150 grain in the 30-06 and the similar Speer Gold Dot as well. Never recovered one yet as they completely pass through deer size game.

Hi very informative, however I noticed that you have a great deal of trouble pushing that bolt forward (and not only on this video). I had a Savage M110 in the 90s and did not have any feeding issues, so what is going on with yours? Is it the magazine? I certainly would not put up with such "rough" feeding. Cheers.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho80097 күн бұрын
Even after having the Bolt worked on, this model 10 is just stiff and clunky. If I concentrate on cycling the bolt fast and forcibly it runs well enough. The rifle is accurate, so I will keep it.

Nice! Liking the light bullet loads. I’m working on some 150 grain loads in 30-06. What is the best velocity you’ve seen with that particular combo if you have tried it?
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho800910 ай бұрын
30-06. Win 760, 150 gn Hornady SST @ 2,970 fps. 30-06. Superformance, 150gn Speer Grand Slam @ 2,990 fps. Both from a 22 inch Model 70 bolt action. Thanks for watching.

Mr. Strohmeyer i have a savage 110 storm 30-06 with a 22 barrel that’s fast like your 308 . With factory ammo I see 100 to 150 over there listed velocity. When reloading I’m 2 or more grains from max with max velocity. I tend to stick with the max velocity. Where did you see pressure signs the most with hitting velocity max or closer to max powder. For example with one grain under Speer starting load with 165 grain I’m at 2835 in velocity. I’m trying to keep as much powder in the case as to not build pressure with low case fill.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho80095 ай бұрын
In my case only certain powders such as CFE-223 and BLC-2 showed excessive velocity at 2-3 grains below listed max. Varget powder gave me close to book listed velocity without pressure signs. The most notable pressure sign from my rifle was sticky bolt lift.

Dave does your chronograph calculate SD or do you do it yourself. If so what is the formula? Boy that Savage has a sticky action to it. Too bad.

The magnetospeed does the shot speed, the average, the SD's and ES. and displays each on the screen.

Quick question what is the twist rate on your rifle, Is it 1-10 or 1-12? I know some 308 rifle are 1-12 twist where most are 1-10 twist rate rifling.

Yes slip of the toungue, I do that allot. I like Winchester "Large Rifle" primers, as in my testing they give consistant ignition on both medium and medium-slow burning powders, contributing to the best velocity performance.
