Ultimately, the show explains everything in that Jack wanted Liz to have what she wanted which was why he played himself to his full potential, pun intended. It was well within his power to sabotage her, but it was because he was her friend that made him carry the negotiation to the end on the highest terms. That being said, this also was led on by the fact that he was enticed by the initial challenge of a jack off.
