On this day in 1968, George Connelly made his competitive debut for League Champions Celtic against Scottish Cup winners Dunfermline at a dangerously overcrowded East End Park.

Was at the game with my Dad aged 12 - incredible experience -I had been at the 1965 Cup final against Dunfermline - two amazing teams

Am a celtic fan but my mate had nobody to go to ibrox with in rangers last game at ibrox against aberdeen in the there last game off the season he said please go with him I said cant go and listen to all that fenian stuff but in the end I relented and went with him we were only 11 year old and small so we were at the front off the rangers end the copland rd end some off the anti catholic chanting was sickening my mate said just ignore it any way rangers twice lead and blew it a jimmy smith inspired aberdeen came back and pinched it 2 3 celtic won the league without kicking a ball the rangers fans round about us were raging but my mate just said let s get out I had to keep my joy on hold till I got home my mate said your a effing jinx but we remained pals

Curle st sounds familiar am from partick myself born in walker st my da was catholic my ma was from prodestant merkland st they had to get married in secret religion eh 🍀

So recall that match and Celtic fans broke down turnstyles to get inside ground and many took to the flood lights and on climbed on top terracing to get view and to escape crush ..Largest crowd ever inside East End Park .. Dunfermline then a top side and was many yrs later ex Dunfermline defendr Willie callanghan said to me in a bar Celtic they were the best team son ..Willie broother of Tommy Callaghan ex pars player and Celtic player . Them were the best days of football unlike todays over priced ordinary players ..them guys played for the jersey .

Was one of the fans who got swept into ground when gate was broken down by sheer pressure of fans pushing against it,no notion of danger or fear just delighted to see game.

Rangers v Celtic X 4 sums up the monotony of Scottish football if you don’t support the old firm football is just a massive yawn …I’d luv to see the day when they bugger off to the English premiership as this non event that is the Scottish football makes me and anyone else switch off to this boring PISH that is the only teams that matter is Celtic or Rangers 2 teams that win Everything and 10 teams fighting relegation what’s great about that…. !
