Those hat hangers can be expensive depending on where you live or buy it from. A cheap way to do this is go to a home improvement chain & buy bigger holed chain. Sometimes they have coated chain in white. If you're able to screw in a cup holder hook then I would do that (I prefer the ones with the extra piece/latch so the chain doesn't come off). If not then an over the door hook my work. This works really well with the adjustable hats. For the non-adjustable old fashioned clothes pins would work. If you don't like the look of the clothes pins you can always paint or decoupage them.
@sharonculbert71906 жыл бұрын
mlsflamingowi you can also use shower hooks on the chain. slip the strap of the cap onto the hook. use the metal clip type or the flexible c shape.

Try an 8x3 foot closet! Not all of us have closets that are bigger than our living rooms. Every closet door in my house closes right up against the shelves--no room to hang anything on the back.

I live in a disabled senior apt bldg. All the closets are sliding doors so unable to have over the door devices. Inside each is a one level-low wire rack to make it wheelchair accessibility. For now I don’t need a wheelchair so it’s frustrating to me that my clothes touch the floor. I do like that it has two options for hanging clothes: a separate slot for each hanger or I can put it on a bar to slide them. I’m not allowed to nail anything extra up and extension rods wouldn’t be strong enough to hold up to the weight of clothes. I’ve had to resort to hanging my long summer dresses on the handles of the linen closet in the bathroom. I tried using a Command hook but it didn’t stay up because the wall isn’t smooth. “I thought spackle went out of style!” I’m storing my shoes under the bed but this option is hard on my bad spine! Do you have any suggestions for organizing closets for disabled people?
@Marys_Life_646 жыл бұрын
Maybe the rolling drawers would help. They do come in styles other than plastic, but cost a lot more. They come in different widths, too. We have one under our sink (without the wheels, because it made it too tall) for soaps & odds & ends. I started folding my clothes differently, too. I don't lay anything flat on top of other items anymore. I fold in thirds & stand up. I find stuff faster & it also limits how much I can keep. Those folding fabric bins work nice too. Hopefully this helps a little bit. Good luck . I understand back problems. I have a curved spine & a hole in my spine & some days it's hard to do anything, sit, stand, lie down, bend over, etc. It's getting worse as I get older.

Most of the interior doors were removed when we moved into our house except bathrooms, master bedroom and French doors. My dressing room has bi-fold doors. So we can't really use behind door storage. Otherwise, interesting tips.

Too much stuff...less is more...a few pair of shoes and boots, scarves and jewelry...keep it reasonable. Regularly discard items you dont use to keep it neat. I keep shoes in the downstairs coat closet. No shoes allowed in bedrooms as they track dirt and germs upstairs. Keep a nice mirror in the hall way to see how your clothes and shoes look together. Take shoes off when you enter your home and wear slippers or socks. A friend's doctor husband once swabbed his sons tennis shoes, put it in an agar dish in the lab and what grew in that dish was so horrible they could not identify it! lol! After that, the shoes came off in the house. The Japanese have the right idea!

kendra clark I have a small armoire, with no drawers and just one shelf, it's 27 inches wide and 19 inches deep and I've been living with it for 5 years now and making it work.. All of my winter clothes are stored in vacuum plastic bags, that I keep under the shelf, so - no space for shoes, on top of the shelf I have a big shoe box from my boots where I store a couple pairs of shoes and on top of it I store my bags. Also, I have a hanging shelf with 5 shelves from Ikea, where I keep my sportswear and my purses. Next to the shelf I have some space for about 10 to 15 hangers and that's where the rest of my clothes are. And next to the shoe box, on top of the shelf, I have another big vacuum bag with clothes that is too big to store under the shelf with the other 2 bags, and it takes up from my hangers space. If I can make it, you can make it! :)
