Some people who are lonely go to the store every day simply to see and interact with other human beings. Does not save money, but saves mental health.

After getting the pantry, freezer, and frig stocked, gaps can be filled in pretty easy. Sometimes when there is a sale, we are stocked on and items so we don't get it. We know how much food we can have at one time. This starts saving money too when you get to this point.

Years ago I worked as a cashier in a grocery store, I could tell there were people especially older people that this shopping trip was a highlight of the week for them. If the store wasn’t busy right then I would be extra chatty with them. Loneliness is a powerful emotion.

@carolynmaves503 It sounds like you were a very bright light to those people. Before my brother went to heaven, I thought he was so silly to go to Food Lion every single day, sometimes for just one or two items. Years later, I clearly see why he did that. Thank you for being a blessing from God to those lonely people!

My hack: If you chose to not do grocery pick up, you can still load your online cart and use it as a grocery list so you know exactly how much it will be at register. If you add extra items while in the store add them to your list and let the cart tally the price for you.

Great idea. Do you find differences in prices online vs store?
@PeaceDayCortez
@PeaceDayCortez 2 ай бұрын
@@ShareHeart1218 not really if you make the list the day before. But either way you have the prices on your list so you can price check, let's say cheese for example. You have the brand you use on your list but you see one for less and you get that one, leave the expensive one on your list but get the cheaper one, it goes with her video of rounding up and finding you saved more when at the register. I hope this helps.

This is a huge one! Over the years I have been overcharged sooo many times! It is really annoying. Plus I try to watch while they’re ringing things up. If something you picked up has a price in front of it that turns out to be wrong and they charge you a higher price at check out, you still should get it at the lower price that was marked in front of it. Take a picture of the price that’s displayed in front of the item and show it to the cashier. They are generally required to give it to you at the price you saw it for when you picked it up- even if that’s wrong. (At least here in the USA).

I absolutely agree. I stopped eating processed food a few years ago so I rarely eat out. I don't like preservatives in my food. I make everything I can from scratch, for example, tortillas, bread, rolls, cakes, cookies, creamer, salad dressing, pizza, burgers etc. I also don't like chemicals on my body so I make my own laundry soap, cleaning products etc. I use organic coconut oil for, cooking, lip balm, and eye makeup remover. Not only does this help financially since you're buying less products it helps with your carbon footprint. The app yucka is great for scanning and knowing what products are bad for you.

One thing I have done is to develop a roster of inexpensive recipes that are easy and that my family loves. Over time, we have gathered a list of over 40 recipes that really work for us, and having this list posted all the time helps me to avoid getting takep-out meals more often than we have planned to. Planning to have leftovers is a tried and true way to make life easier in the kitchen --- and if you have recipes everyone loves, nobody minds having the same thing more than once.

I am an older woman and always dismayed that so many folks younger than me, need to be told this stuff. It was the basic 'home economics' we learned when we were young ; either from the women in our family, or at school. They're not about anti-feminist, female drudgery, theyre life skills. I taught all my sons this stuff before they left home. They now teach their wives/partners/children

When I've found a problem, I contact customer service on the store's website. They have always added a refund to my loyalty account that shows up as a credit on my next visit. That way I don't have to stand in line at the in-store customer service. Something I noticed yesterday about sale prices ... the clearance stickers were more expensive than the sale price on the shelf. At our store, those clearance stickers are in 2 parts, one is an updated UPC code that goes directly over the original. So, had I not been paying attention, I would have paid MORE for an expiring clearance item than an in-date sale item when I checked out.

My biggest thing was actually decreasing my portions. I know not a lot of people would like this advice but it has helped a lot. Not only do I save money but I can also buy healthier options that are a little pricier but would last awhile because I don’t eat big portions like I used to. My second, I drink mostly water and coffee on occasion. We do indulge in orange juice at times but only for Sunday breakfast. For a family of five we were easily spending almost $100 a month on beverages which was ridiculous.

Thanks for your helpful hints. A couple were new to me. Here are some things I do: Keep a list of things that you're getting low on, so you can watch for a sale. I call this my IOS (if on sale) list. e.g.:When I open the last bag of sugar, I add it to the list, etc. When there's a good sale, I stock up. I also comparison shop online. If I have cheese on my grocery list, I check the stores' websites to see which one has the best per unit or per ounce price. I'm retired, and I include the calculation of the senior discount at the store that has one. I don't get store flyers in the mail anymore. Only 1 store still sends them out, and if I don't have any mail that day the mailman doesn't even deliver it. That's why using the store websites are so helpful. Check for digital coupons on a store's website. I don't subscribe to the newspaper anymore, so digital coupons are great. I create frozen dinners with my leftovers. I bought containers for this after my husband died. I had lots of food leftover from people bringing food to the house. I was still working then, and I took the food to work. I still create frozen dinners, often times the leftovers are from several different meals. So many days, I'm not feeling well enough to cook and popping a frozen dinner in the microwave is easy.

Easier said than done to shop alone, here is my tip to shop with kids when they were younger: They had their own shopping list. I used pictures. For every section of the store they had to find something. Like a banana in the produce section, some milk in dairy, etc. They know the brands you have at home, so they will not take something else (they can’t read, “milk” to them it is the milk you always have) This does two things; it gives you time to think and get the things you need and it let’s the kids participate. They feel accomplished and “grown up” for helping plus they get to put stuff in the cart. And they are not familiar with where things are, so for them it takes more time to find the thing they need. It can also be done verbally. Ask them to find something in each section and let them be busy with their task for a few minutes. I had fun doing groceries with my kids this way. They seriously never put anything in the cart that I didn’t want them to. They of course would ask for things and it would either be a yes or a no. No tantrums, no fuss. And at home they even helped with putting stuff away 🙂

Ohhhh my goodness … Ur cholesterol came back acting up… easy hack I promise will help lower it… 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar in am and at night this is the one : a small bowl of ground oatmeal with cinnamon and honey…. My dad started doing this in the 90’s when his doctor told him to lower it and he has never had an issue since with cholesterol high blood pressure sugar spikes and night time binge /snacking (that was why his cholesterol was high) because he would eat chip or snacks before bed cause he felt so called hungry… it was actually being thirsty and dehydrated so mom started him on that his apple cider vinegar in am and oatmeal with cinnamon n honey at night and two bottles of water at bedside… I assure you it will help… Dad was weighing in at 190 back in the 90’s now he weighs 154 and has been there since 1993…. Sometime mom’s old fashioned care plans work… and he keeps active in the mountains…walking hiking pruning gardening … Every lil change helps… hope you’ll try it…

I live close to several grocery stores in a loop of a few miles and we have favorite things from a couple of them. I mostly do grocery pickup at my 2 favorite stores. I look at the ads online and buy meat (pork shoulder and chicken) when it's 99¢ or less and seafood when it's on sale. I bought an upright freezer for my garage and gave my chest freezer to my daughter. I bought the chest freezer during Covid because it was the only freezer I could get. None available to buy, which was crazy.

Know the policies of each store you shop regarding items that ring up incorrectly. For example, Publix and Harris Teeter will give you the item free if it rings up incorrectly. This applies to only the first item if you have multiples. The others are at the correct price. Also, many stores will accept competitors’ coupons.

When I write out my grocery list I write the items I need in order of how I walk the store so I don't have to walk every where and possibly see something that I don't need and get it, I also go into the stores app and see the prices of the items and can figure out about the price I am going to be paying at the store before I go, so if I go in and the amount is cheaper than what I expect then I feel like I did really good. Like last week I was expecting to pay around $150 and it only came to $129, so I was really excited about that but I don't know how I was so much off of my expected price.

I LOVE your channel, you always have great tips! I agree about Aldi's spices! They are definitely cheaper and taste great. I have been saving lots of money with BOGOS at my local grocery store plus an extra 5% on days for people over a certain age. I use the grocery store app so I have the list when I go to the store and try not to divert with splurge purchases. I also get rain checks when the supermarket is out of the sale item and buy it when it comes back into stock. Another way I save is to stockpile when things are on sale, so I pretty much always have pantry items on hand. I minimize food waste by freezing or canning dishes when it's about to go bad. I plan my meals around what's on sale and like you said, perishable items to use them up before they spoil.

I also buy 2lbs of wild salmon at Costco (9.99 a lbs) and cut out portions, and freeze to cook at least in between beef, pork, and chicken for a quick healthy meal.

My store app has not only the price but the aisle number when I add items to my list. That way I can total up the list b4 I shop, AND I also stay away from the aisles I don’t need stuff from, so it cuts out the temptation factor. I go in store because I like to pick my own produce. OAN, check your family history about your cholesterol level. I had HC, even though I ate well and exercised. Turns out my dad had HC even though otherwise he was healthy. My levels were genetic based. I went in a very low dose of a statin every other day. My level dropped 42 points over a 3 month period.

I love that idea about adding up the items before you shop. It's great that they have the isle number, too! Thank you for the reminder on the cholesterol. There is some family history of it, so we are going to recheck it after about 6 months of correcting my diet. Hugs 🤗

Perhaps grow some simple things like chives, onions, beetroot etc just to help out. Chives in omelette for example livens it up, and needs very little space to grow. Hell, grow it in a tub on your windowsill.

Just wondering it you have found any good tricks on saving money on meats??? I, too, only eat meat (and very limited vegetables) for health reasons.

@candesewhite6186 So far, I'm getting organic meat from Walmart, which is reasonable. But I want to research BUTCHER BOX and a few other places to compare prices. I also want to make sure they have not injected the meat with the mRNA vaccine. Let me know if you find good deals on organic meat without the mRNA vaccine, if you would.

As a young mother on a very strict budget, I always used a list, rounded up at the supermarket, and I also had recipes that were healthy but inexpensive .. & that I could cook several meals in a day. I'd stock up my freezer with mains that used similar preparation items on one day, then baked slices, biscuits, desserts another day, and on another day I'd cook other mains using different ingredients, e.g. pasta type meals one day, casseroles/stews another, baked vegetable type dishes another, rice dishes on another. It allowed me to prep. all the similar ingredients together .. pasta, rice, noodles, potatoes, cabbage, etc. another .... as well as grated cheeses, tomato sauces, meet gravies, beans & lentils, etc.. My freezer was always stocked up with plenty of meals & we never bought take-out meals. I also made my sons school lunches & meals for my husbands lunches a week ahead of time. I'd buy juices & freeze them in drink bottles, so that with his early snacks fruit & crackers, they were still cool, but his lunch was as fresh as if made that same morning by the time lunch came around. This is how we did it in the days before insulated drink bottles & lunch boxes. I also bought meat in bulk at the butcher, either on my own, or shared with a friend, depending upon the value. Even though I live alone now, I still like to have meals in the freezer & I consider take-aways as unnecessary luxuries. I keep a running list of what I need & try to stick to my list when I go shopping. I also shop at Aldi first, then if there's anything that I can't find there, but is essential, then I'll go to the other supermarkets. In Australia, we mainly only have 2 major supermarkets (that are taking advantage of their position) & Aldi, although one new large 'cheap' warehouse/no-frills type of supermarket has just recently opened up where I live, so I'll consider them as my alternative if Aldi doesn't have what I need. By law, all of our supermarket prices have to be labelled at the /kilo, /gram, /litre, /ml, (ounce, lbs, pint, etc.) etc. so that we can work out a fair comparison when looking at the shelf prices. This has made a huge difference to our ability to compare real prices when shopping. Never shop at the end of aisles unless you Know that it's a Real special. Often manufacturers pay extra for those positions at the end of the aisles and middle/eye level of the shelves. They may increase the price of items in order to provide 'specials' when you'd never usually pay their ticket price when shopping normally. They are usually still making a great mark-up when they're 40% off. If you saw their laundry detergent for, say $30 on their regular price, you may not buy it, but when you see it's say 40% off, even if it's still more than the brand you'd normally buy, you'd be tempted to pay it because it appeared to be a big savings! Please don't be fooled by their marketing ploys. If it's more than you'd normally be prepared to pay, then it's not as true savings, it's a marketing ploy. I became vegetarian about 10 years ago for animal welfare, but I'm also noticed that it's also saved me a lot of money. I only occasionally miss the taste of meat, but when I think of the animals, I quickly lose any wish for it. However, as much as I'd like to, I can't give up dairy. There are loads of delicious vegetarian meals that don't require tofu or awful tasting foods. I love vegetables, especially with cheese sauces, meatless pasta is so simple & I don't even notice the missing meat because it was mainly hidden in the tomato or cheese sauces anyway, and by the time you add mushrooms & other vegetables for texture, it's virtually impossible to tell that meat is missing. I'm sure that if families were to have 2 meatless meals per week, the family wouldn't notice, but the budget would! I also keep tissue boxes beside my sewing machine for all the little thread ends. I have major hand tremors & if I knock the tissue box over I don't lose all the threads & small fabric scraps onto the floor. Store soap amongst your linen. The longer it's stored, the harder it becomes, so it takes a lot longer to use & it doesn't go all soggy in the soap dish. It also keeps your linen smelling fresh ... towels & sheets. Dryer sheets can be renewed just by soaking in a container with about 50/50 fabric conditioner & water. Just peg on the line to dry. These are also nice to slip in-between your sheets & towels. Bi-carbonate of soda (cleaning grade) is a great deodorizer for the fridge. Just put in a small dish & leave in the fridge to absorb any odors. It also works inside shoe closets too. It's also great for smelly shoes, esp. if put inside a sock & tucked inside the joggers. It also helps absorb moisture inside shoes. Tightly balled up newspaper will also absorb moisture in joggers. A little vanilla essence in an egg cup is also a nice fridge deodorizer. I admit that I've only found 1 tip in about 5 of your videos that was new to me as we were a lot more frugal 70 years ago. When we grow older ... we become wiser but forget how much we know that are new to others. I'll have to try to list several others that aren't on here.

If grocery delivery does not have fees, they are likely charging a higher price for each item. If there was no fee or bump in price, that’s not good because that means that I am subsidizing that benefit for other people because they’re charging EVERYONE a higher price!
