I watch these to keep myself motivated to stay on my diet and reach my goal weight. I refused to have bariatric surgery and lost over 170 pounds so far. Only another 40 to go.

I lost weight to have bariatric surgery and ended up losing weight on my own. I'm 210 now and hoping to get to 165! But it's getting harder! Congratulations to you!🎉🎉

Gastric bypass surgeries are fine, but are quite dangerous. There was this woman, named Kimberly, on Freaky Eaters, who was an ice cream bar addict. She struggled with her weight ever since she was 10 - 280Ib was the highest that she ever was. When she was 40, Kimberly underwent gastric bypass surgery to control her weight and lost 150Ib. She kept it off until 7 years later, she became obsessed with ice cream bars, following a traumatic divorce and her mum visited with a box of ice cream bars for her to try - she began eating 40 a day for the next 3 years, causing her to gain back 50Ib and give her Type 2 Diabetes. When you have gastric bypass surgery and you overeat, it's rapidly let into the small intestine, which shoots up your blood sugar and that's really bad for someone with diabetes. Our stomachs are 1000ml, but Kimberly's new stomach is 30ml, yet she had been pushing too much food into it. Even though these surgeries make the stomach smaller and reduce appetite, I'd rather stick to losing weight the natural and safest way - dieting and exercising. I'm hoping to lose 3 stone

I’m not usually one to judge someone by their size. I’m not exactly in a position myself to say boo hoo about it. Yes his mom is a bigger woman. That doesn’t mean that it’s entirely her fault. He easily could’ve taken care of himself and didn’t. Has his mom helped him get this big? Yes. But he’s a grown man.

That's the bit that stood out to you? Even without him saying that, a person only gets that large and dependent with at least 1 enabler who doesn't say no to them. Who would rather give them short term happiness than upset them for what is the right thing to do. It's quite clear she does whatever he wants without him needing to make that comment, as is the case for several other people at dangerously high weights

If you can lose 150lbs in one year by modifying your behavior why on earth do you need surgery???
@codename495
@codename495 8 ай бұрын
Because at his weight 150 lbs in one year is nothing at all. He is still over 600 and the damage to his stomach is done. Eventually even with diet he will more than likely fail.

Because it gets harder the more you lose. Plus for the long-term effect the surgery is important. It affects the amount of food one can eat for one meal.

@nowupsidedown 8 ай бұрын
Hydraulic lifts/sliding aids are used rather than medical or rescue personnel lifting patients. They’re advised not to because of the injury it can cause. Most people tend to gauge the limit of what they can manage and any manual handling training will tell you never to carry more than you’re capable of 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's not an addiction..please stop giving that excuse. It makes it so people don't need to take responsibility for themselves when they can claim to have that "disease"
@lifesong8484
@lifesong8484 8 ай бұрын
@SunRise-lr7ch eating disorders are actually a form of addiction. They are also much more challenging to overcome than most other addictions, as food is necessary to stay alive. When it comes to most other addictions, the focus of the addiction can be avoided (eg alcohol, drugs, gambling, porn), but with food that's obviously not possible. For this reason, those with eating disorders sometimes slip from one type of eating disorder into another in their efforts to overcome it (eg anorexia nervosa into bulimia nervosa or BED into anorexia nervosa...or any combo). I know ppl who've gone from anorexic to BED to bulimia to anorexia nervosa to orthorexia. So to all those who overcome them, so proud of you 👏
@lifesong8484

@@lifesong8484 and yet I seriously doubt the people on this show qualify under the diagnostic criteria for that label. If they did they'd be in a different treatment program.
@lifesong8484
@lifesong8484 7 ай бұрын
@SunRise-lr7ch a different treatment program? These ppl are spending all their money on food by the looks of it. Treatment for an eating disorder is usually very expensive. Ppl with BED usually require outpatient treatment. Which is a challenge compared with other EDs such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, which are more likely to be accepted by insurance companies for inpatient treatment. I had A.N many years ago & spent time in hospital. No one was treated for any ED other than A.N or B.N. The other types of eating disorders can be very dangerous also however, & are also not easy to overcome. I have a friend who had anorexia nervosa & is now morbidly obese. The addiction is still there, just that it is manifesting differently. Eating disorders are hell, & I really feel for those who have an ED which causes them to be extremely overweight, since there are things they'd have to deal with (treatment from other ppl) that not all ppl with EDs have to.
