I'm impressed that yellow paint looks as good as it does after all those years. I put that on in 2001 at the boat yard in Raiatea, huge amount of sanding, it was a two part NZ made brand (can't remember the name) with a two part primer system. I did most of the prep and a local guy sprayed it for me, did a great job.

I eagerly look for each episode. Fascinating to see a beautiful Newick Echo rescued. These cold molded craft take an incredible amount of work to restore, even if they haven’t been through a tornado. The skill, knowledge and sheer amount of hard work y’all have put into this project are awe-inspiring. I’ve learned a lot and thank you profoundly for recording and sharing the process.

@@Camarasailing I thank you for your quick response, as a professional boat builder of high performance multihulls ( Schionning catamarans) I have always found trimarans to be the most purist form of multihull and there is something about the constant camber tris of Dick Newic, even though they are old designs I still get a buzz every time I see one, cheers and thanks again for the info and can't Wait to see your tri on the water and doing what she was designed to do.

Although Dick Newick worked with Jim Brown and John Marples in developing the CC construction method I can’t recollect any of Dick’s designs that actually used it, tho’ I could be wrong. Unlike Jim and John’s boats the 3D CC curvatures did not really lend themselves to Dick’s longer flowing lines I built one of John’s 35’ centre cockpit tris in CC and then a Newick Echo 35 in strip plank. The latter certainly was the more performance oriented but the CC boats were faster and easier to build, and certainly more sturdy. We built many workboats and cruising cats and exported CC panels for final construction elsewhere Another advantage of building CC hulls is the minimal final fairing required when the panels are vacuum bagged over the master mould

I'm a latecomer to these videos, but have thoroughly enjoyed them all. It's great to see how the family interacts too. One question though....why is everything grey? Is it simply a matter of choice/ preference or is there a more nuanced/prosaic reason. Just asking...
@Camarasailing
@Camarasailing Жыл бұрын
Hi there - thanks for watching! Good question. We haven’t purposely chosen grey. On Camara we liked the idea of a dark hull and liked the look of the graphite grey. When it came to the inside we knew we wanted a light colour but didn’t want it to be white so went with the light grey. Our son chose the colour for his trimaran from a colour chart and somehow landed up with the light grey. Perhaps because at one point he was thinking of adding shark teeth graphics on the bows so the light grey would have gone well with that. So not really any particular reason, just happened that way 😉
