Thank you very much! I didn't realize that I was constantly oversetting pins. I'm really glad you have this video series. I also really enjoyed your explanations on security pins as other channels mention them, but don't seem to explain them.

Very nice video. Thank you! I have both an acrylic and a cutaway from Sparrows...each with 5 pins. Neither one needs all pins set. Might be coincidence on mine but 2-3 pins each will open either.

I found it is because they use keypins as driver pins and often the keypin length thr use is so long it is already sitting at the shearline

Nice videos, could you make a video that demonstrates how comb picks actually work inside that lock? It's hard to visualise what people are actually doing when they normally demonstrate it in videos using normal padlocks.

This and your other clip on over-setting is helping me a lot. But my problem is easily/accurately finding the pins. I’m currently learning the location/feel by clamping my Sparrows cut-away next to whatever progressive I am using. Which works but lacks realism found in just flat out picking a lock. Of course, the are called PRACTICE locks. And it is helping. Have you thought about a clip of visualizing the pin locations?

I have seen some people on the past mark their pick so they could see how far back they were in the lock a lot of it just comes down to practice

Have any exercises to help me make sure I lift up the pins in order instead of constantly lifting up another pin and getting the wrong binding order?
@HelpfulLockPicker
@HelpfulLockPicker 4 жыл бұрын
It more or less comes down to practice but one thing that some people have said they have had luck with was putting small markings onto their pick to show them exactly how far they are into the lock. That will help you start to build the "feel" for it.

Clear practice locks like this one have hair triggers. You can basically blow on it and it will unlock lol

Clear locks aren’t really good for practicing they’re good for learning what’s actually happening when you have a pick in a keyway. Giving your brain a visual key to add to the feel of picking a lock. You should practice by taping up the lock so you can’t see it and or on easy regular locks like masterlocks.

What keeps a key pin at its shear line? Is it binding? It's lifted there by the pick but why doesn't the spring up in the bible push it back down when the pick tool moves to the next pin? Also why is part of the lock called the bible? Thank you!
@HelpfulLockPicker
@HelpfulLockPicker 4 жыл бұрын
It is the binding which keeps the pins at shear. It is called a "bible" because in a key in knob cylinder it looks like a book.

Okay, noob question, what does ‘pin’ 7 do?
@HelpfulLockPicker
@HelpfulLockPicker 3 жыл бұрын
On this particular lock it only serves to retain the plug so it does not fall out when you open the lock

@@HelpfulLockPicker I can't seem to count how many pins there are, either the pick scoots over them or the spaces between them are too small.
