I forgot to include anything from the offspring so just go watch the whole episode
edit:
ok guys I’m sorry about the sound quality. I recorded these clips on my phone after I had finished a few episodes at a time so the volume fluctuates. I would have fixed it if I wasn’ using imovie on my iphone😔 this is the same reason I missed some good scenes- sometimes I watched a lot in one day on my tv so there were episodes I forgot to comb through on my phone, and there were some that were so good I wanted to record the whole episode so I didn’t end up recording anything at all! also I know about the repeated clip but at this point there’s nothing I can do about it 💔 I can’t edit this video unless I want to reupload a new one, and I don’t really want to do that
thank you to the people who enjoyed this video and the other one! I genuinely did not expect this many people to see it😭 it’s really cool reading through all your comments about Data and Star Trek🫶

I think it's neat how Data's whole motivation in later seasons became trying to be more human, lamenting that he can't feel human emotions, etcetera. But from the very start of the series he was portraying very human qualities such as making friends with people and getting pissy when someone mispronounces his name
@Elly3981
@Elly3981 9 ай бұрын
I think that Data did have emotions all along. He just didn't express them as well as his brother, Lore. If Data truly didn't have emotions, he wouldn't have been able to be intrigued by human behavior, enjoy things, bond with his friends and cat, or get annoyed when people mispronounce his name. Yet Data has shown that he can do all that. He is kind, innocent, and benevolent while Lore is twisted, sadistic, and cruel.

@@moniquebaldea9299Well, I think its also because Dr. Soong programmed Data to be much more mellow and reserved than Lore so that he wouldn't lash out at people for treating him differently because he's an android or let negative emotions cloud his better judgment because with his superhuman strength and abilities, it would have been a disaster for everyone around him if Data were to ever lose his temper over anything or panic in a critical situation and screw up. By the time he installed his emotion chip, Data had lived among humans and other organic species long enough to handle his emotions more responsibly than Lore did.

@@Elly3981 He had, if nothing else, exceptionally high emotional intelligence. And knew how to emulate outward emotion to get a desired reaction (which makes his actions at the start of Generations a bit out of character.) I also choose to believe that he did have emotions, but they were more muted and manageable. Like what Vulcans want people to think their emotions are.

Ode to Spot Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature, An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature; Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses. I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations, A singular development of cat communications That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection. A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents; You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance. And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion, It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion. I think Data trying to talk to sad Worf was one of his best moments. He must know that he lacks the necessary social graces to actually comfort Worf. But Data also knows that the only correct thing to do is attempt to speak to him. It might just be a programed response in him, but for a human to do the same would be nothing but courage and compassion.

@@Kllgg I wouldn't say that Worf is autistic. He's a Klingon man raised by human parents. Because Klingons have such intense emotions (ironically similar to Romulans), it's quite the handful for humans when they don't have experience with even unruly human children. So while it's possible that Worf has autism, it's very unlikely. He just has stunted social skills from a lack of socialization with other Klingons. But Data is very much analogous to an autistic person. He feels emotion, he just doesn't truly comprehend it.

Left out one of my favorite scenes: Data commanding the Enterprise after Picard and Riker got abducted and having to prove his commanding abilities over Worf, who questioned him in front of the crew several times. The way he combines his role as the leader, stays clear on the point about what he has to criticize while using it as an opportunity to help Worf grow in his understanding of his new role, then making clear it was not meant personally in any way and therefore keeping their friendly relationship intact. It really gave me unrealistic expectations of what to expect from adults later in life as I watched it when I was young.

@@naverilllang I think there's another layer to explaining the "lie", which we know Data is strictly programmed against, about the "misfire". Pretty clear Data chose to fire, which violates another program. But if the choice were motivated by a genuine flash of emotion instead of logic, that would have been so new & strange a thing to experience that Data might have truly believed the "something happened during transport" line. It would be in line with the very real human trait of "it's not a lie... if you believe it" thing. The Most Toys. That episode is amazing. From the technical, investigative element that uncovers the truth behind things, to the phenomenol performances of Spiner and the guy who played Fajao, his name escapes me, but he was great in that role. DEFINITELY on my Mt. Rushmore of Next Gen episodes, and DEFINITELY one of my favorite Data episodes.

I was never invested in Star Trek, i knew my mom loved the series and caught a few episodes here and there. Then I heard once how Data's mannerisms resemble that of autsim, earning him the title of an autistic icon/representation in media. Thank you for uploading this and finding its way to my youtube recommended so that I may witness firsthand these mannerisms as he embodies them. It honestly made me giddy how he calculatedly explains things and was sent over the moon when he got started about the chemical composite of brown dwarf stars. Diana Muldaur who played Dr. Katherine Pulaski in the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, also appeared in two episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series in the late 1960s, playing two different roles (Dr. Miranda Jones and Ann Mulhall). I just didn't feel like she was a good fit as ship's doctor. Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher absolutely crushed it IMHO.
