The a mark 2 estate. I have never in all my walks to and from school and all my car spotting have I seen a 2 door Cortina like this, never. So good to see this my dad had a mk5 2.0GL in Midnight blue reg OLF 484W back in the late 1980`s and early 1990s this episode brought back some childhood memories for me please do what you can to make this a nice car again there aren`t many of them on the road these days. I am not a fan of lowering it but thats just personal preference. I have often wondered what one of these with an engine from a Sierra Cosworth would be like. Dad would have loved to have seen this episode but sadly he passed away from liver cancer in 2016 i still miss him very much. I have always loved the look of the cortina a much nicer shape than the blobby Sierra. I am sure there will be people who disagree with me on that one each to their own. One night, someone managed to get into the car and 10 seconds later, the horn, the headlights, and the siren went off. Thief fled and no damage to the car. I recon that the thief lost his hearing for some time. The Cortina is an absolute find. Keep as original as possible apart from fitting a decent carburettor. Keep up the good work Ben.

She gave us the keys and when we went to it we found it only had one wiper and only one headlight worked. You can actualy change gear without the clutch if you get the timing right with the speed of the engine revs. I had to drive a car home many moons ago without a clutch. Such fun! Morris minors have no sycromesh on 1st gear so they make a horrid crunch if you try and put it in 1st as you approach a junction

Brilliant find/purchase! I'll tell you a story. A few years back, I rented a garage in Cardiff, you know, one of those that had their own entrance that were built in the 60's that you would get when you bought a flat. Anyway, I got talking to a few of the others who were working on thier own cars in adjacent garages. It turns out, just on my block alone, out of 24 garages (there's probably around 300 garages dotted around the estate), there were 2 Ford Capri's, a Ford Zephyr?, a Saab 90, and an old Mini. Most of these were the old boys who lived up in the blocks of flats, who, because of age, no longer maintain them. There are 1000s of hidden gems still out there.

Its heat is the key to freeing the clutch. We had Humbers which stuck regularly because they were wedding cars. Get the engine to normal temp and switch off. Do it often . The. Jack up back wheels, put it in second and let the back wheels turn. Let it warm up. Then gently depress the brake. Keep the clutch depressed, I use a length of timber between the seat and the pedal. Eventually the prop will stop turning as the brakes win.

Yes my brother. Brilliant video 👍👍👍. Such a great car. Had a Mark IV as my second ever car. Bought it from a chap who kept it garaged as well. Was mechanically sound to the point where all it needed was a service and it was good to go. And this was a good 30 years ago. Changed a few bits over the 5 years I had it. But it was bulletproof. Had a cam belt go on me one time but the great thing about them was engine instantly stopped and didn’t blow. All I had to do was replace the belt and she started straight back up and ran like a dream. The only problem I found with them, which apparently was legendary was that the sills, both inner and outer easily rusted. Which was how I ended up having to get rid of it due to the cost back then of getting them done. Still remains the best car I ever had. Look forward to more videos on it.

Get rid of that Motorcraft carburettor and fit a twin choke webber the difference will be like night and day and gain a few horses, a four branch manifold will also benefit, other than that oil change and service maybe check the valve clearances and that engine will run and run they virtually bulletproof and worth a few quid too.

What a wonderful machine. I remember these as a kid. Sadly a rare sight now. If you do any mods, it’s prudent to make sure they are reversible / keep the original parts.

Loved every second of this video. The cortina has a special place in my heart as when I was a kid my mom had two mk4’s and my dad had a mk3. There’s just something about the way they look, they were gorgeous cars.

You're on a definite winner here Ben, I follow the classic car auctions and old Fords are making incredible money. I struggle to understand it though, I've had loads of cars but never a Ford!

Hi Ben after fighting to get that old seized drum off, I wouldn't have bothered putting any shoes or springs and things back on. That way it rolls easy and you can do a proper rebuild whenever you have the appropriate parts. 👍
