PNSO is still the best when it comes to sculpt detail but that dull paint scheme doesn't do the sculpt justice. The blue Haolonggood is my favorite overall

Yes, the irony is that PNSO probably has the 'realest' colour of all the larger dinosaurs, if you subscribe to writers like Dr Mark Witton. But I'm going to keep enjoying coloured dinosaurs anyway! 😁

I'm glad! I think that for most people, the HLG would come close to having the total package that makes sense. A beautiful model with nice detail and a reasonable price. The PNSO is still pretty expensive sadly, but as you can see, there are degrees of fineness that the HLG doesn't match. Either of these, I am sure you will be happy with! 😁

Thank you my friend! I am glad that you find my reviews useful. I try to do them in a way that would be useful in helping people decide, or if they already have something, suggest features to appreciate in what they have. This is a really beautiful piece of work, and I have no doubt that it will stay as one of the best Triceratops models for a very long time!

My grey has just arrived. You've convinced me I need the green as well. (But you didn't need to work very hard to do that, I was already contemplating the green.) I find that you capture colours in your videos very well - they are pretty true to the actual thing..

Thank you! My color is actually not the best, and I wish I had better HDR capabilities, but I do try to tweak the lighting such that it looks close to what I assume most people will have. That's why I don't do any daylight outdoor shoots, as I think it would not be useful to most people. I think you are going to be very happy with these two colours, whichever you get. One thing that surprised me was how much more detail shows up in the grey compared to the green because of the plainer colours. Yet it doesn't come across as sloppily painted, so I'm pretty pleased with it as well!

Another great review and I hope I'm not alone but I want a certainly want a Eotriceratops or Pentaceratops from PNSO OR a Torosaurus or Cocoahuilaceratops from haolonggood but that's just hopes and dreams.

Hmmm.. that one is pretty fragmentary though, and initially size estimates thought to be exaggerated. I definitely agree on Pentaceratops, in true 1:35! I hope PNSO are okay though; I haven't heard from them and they have been really silent this year.

I think that the HLG should be available for a while more, and importantly, the early run ones. I don't think the paint application quality falloff will be as much as PNSO, but always good to try to get in early on this!

Ah, I suppose you get yours from Everything Dinosaur, and for some reason, they always seem to get these in really slowly. The advantage though, is that you have the time to see what else comes on the market in the meantime, and plan budget and space accordingly. I would go out on a limb however, to say that I don't think anyone will regret getting this HLG Triceratops! 😁😁

Something I’ll give HLG credit for is an appropriate amount of neck muscles supporting the frill and head. PNSO’s has an awkwardly thin neck that doesn’t attach to the frill convincingly, but that might also just be the specimen it’s based on having a heavily plastered skull.
@DinosDragons

In that case your choice would definitely be the HLG. The HLG is the one I would on balance, recommend to everyone. It's growing on me day by day.

This was a very useful comparison! I find it quite intriguing how the only noteworthy example of a "normal" triceratops morph has been the safari ltd one from years ago. I really like all 3 of these figures. I think the edge goes to Haolonggood for me however just because of how dynamic the paint is while also representing the genus so well. If PNSO's was more visually interesting it would've gone a long way ( I think something along the lines of WWD's Torosaurus would look fantastic on that figure). And though I feel that objectively the Eofauna is the worst both in terms of sculpt and paint apps, I have a soft spot for it that I can't put my finger on. Maybe it's the pose or it being marginally the most accurate. I just really wanna try repainting it if I ever get one.

Highly useful comparison review, which will definitely aid a lot of people in making a decision whether they should get the Haolonggood Triceratops. I acknowledge many great improvements of sculpt and paint application I can see and actually I like the green version much better than the gray one. The gray one somehow has a cold appearance whereas the green one appears more natural and warmer. Unfortunately I cannot get over these weird large scales or whatever these structures on the frill are. They just disturb the overall picture for me to the point that I have decided to skip this Triceratops. And by chance I had just placed an order for the De Clay studio Triceratops prorsus resin model just a week before the Haolonggod Triceratops was released. I wanted a T. prorsus for quite some time and De Clay is the best one out there.
@DinosDragons
@DinosDragons 2 ай бұрын
You know, I've kept going back to the De Clay page to look at that Triceratops from time to time. It keeps beckoning. But I still am undecided about the arms, especially the hands and fingers. Plus with the huge expenditure on the upcoming HLG Argentinosaurus, I'm really having to stay my hand. Plus, I'm waiting for an upcoming offering from De Clay 😉 before I decide if I can splurge, and what to splurge on. Those large scales are really strange. Plus the prefrontal keratin together, just is a leap too far for many people. I'm sure an enterprising modder could fix this, but at a cost that no longer makes sense.
@thomaswagner1135
@thomaswagner1135 2 ай бұрын
@@DinosDragons Thanks for getting back to me. What is actually in your view the issue with the manus of the De Clay Tricersatops prorsus? I see that the three most medial unguals are with nails / claws and the two more lateral ones have no nails / claws and look vestigial. So the structure of the digits seems to be be correct.
@DinosDragons
@DinosDragons 2 ай бұрын
You know what, now that I look at it again, you are correct. Maybe I saw an earlier prototype, or am remembering it completely wrong. But damn... that Triceratops is looking damn good to me, except now that I am going to paying for the HLG Argentinosaurus... I am going to plan how to successfully avoid bankruptcy before I get another model after this! Speaking of which, have you decided which HLG Argentinosaurus to get, if any?
@thomaswagner1135
@thomaswagner1135 2 ай бұрын
@@DinosDragons For me the main reason to go for the De Clay studio Triceratops was that it is T. prorsus. There are many good figures of T. horridus but not so many of T. prorsus. De Clay has actually also a Torosaurus, which is very nice as well. Concerning the Haolonggood Argentinosaurus, I have pre-odered the green-gray one which I liked most. Initially I found the purple also very nice, but in some pictures that appeared a bit later it looked too pale in color in some places like for example the neck and the ventral side of the body in general. I have the same concern about the brown version, although I really like the mottling pattern on this one. This is of course a problem with these pre-orders, there are no in hand pictures in natural light or even video reviews available.
@DinosDragons
@DinosDragons 2 ай бұрын
I wasn't sure about it being incontestably T. prorsus, as from some angles the directionality of the horns and also the length of the nasal horn reminded me of T. horridus. I was expecting a deeper snout as well. But I believe you would be a better judge, since you actually have one in hand you can move around, and view from all angles. I'm limited to all the oblique angles online. Regardless of which it is, your messages have caused me to reconsider and I think it's worth a purchase. I'll have to see what's in store for 2025 though. The HLG Argentinosaurus is going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back. What images we have of HLG Argentino is of terrible quality, clear as mud, and that factory shot of the purple is worrying. This one is frustrating, and I am wondering I might go on the history of in-hand models looking as good, if not even better, than the release images. Don't know why they're so tight about this. Even my 'informants' can't get an info lol. Regarding the Torosaurus, the initial sneak reviews had a frill shape that did not agree with what I associate with Torosaurus, but I've seen that they've tweaked the design and it looks a lot better now. Definitely will have to decide between that and Triceratops, although I'm really keen on the Triceratops now.

Compatibility can be based on different things. When considering which look good together, I would go on paint application style and textured detail, so that one doesn't overpower the other. So based on that, I would choose the EoFauna.

For me, the PNSO design really bothers me - I can't quite put my finger on why because I LIKE Charles Knight's art - just...something. The more I see from companies like Nanmu and Haolonggood, the less I like PNSO's design choices. I have several PNSO, a W-dragon and Nanmu, but I'm really seeing good things out of Haolonggood so i am very much thinking of gettting Argentinosaurus. The ONE bad thing is, it can't pop the neck and tail off to make moving easier.
@DinosDragons
@DinosDragons 2 ай бұрын
That really is going to be one major shortcoming of that model. 8kg is ridiculous. The shipping will kill us, and then there's deciding where to put it safely. I'm not sure about PNSO. Maybe it's the cheeklessness? The articulated mouth? Or just the uninspiring colour?
