The 327 ruled the small block world from 1962-1967 for sure. Just the mention of the number 327 got my immediate and complete attention. The last one I owned was in a 68 Chevelle wagon. It had the hi-pro 327 factory in it. I had that car from 1980-1985. It was very reliable.

You would appreciate the back-story. Joyce inherited her father's Corvette after it had sat for 15 or so years. For sentimental reasons, she wanted it restored to exactly as it had been and with the original parts to the extent possible. The restoration shop sent us the engine and it was a mess. We had to air hammer the pistons out of the block. Amazingly, the block cleaned up well on our 4-axis CNC and we were able to re-use it. This thrilled Joyce. We did convert it to a hydraulic roller cam as they would not be a visible change. It was great to save a piece of history, especially one with such a strong emotional tie. To this day, this remains one of my favorite projects.

Love the sound of that 327! My favourite of GM's small block chevs. Great work on the rebuild guys! Cheers, from Australia

Thank you Adam. That remains one of my favorite jobs. The owner inherited her father's Corvette after it had sat for twenty years. She wanted the car as original as humanely possible. We had to air hammer the pistons out of the block. When disassembled, the engine looked like a hopeless pile of junk. Fortunately, it proved to be salvageable. It was great to be able to save it and help her preserve her father's memories and legacy.

Gotta love the older American Iron. I have a 1969 large journal 327 in a '69 Camaro, stout little motor !

Benji Hughes you can stroke the 327 large journal just like a 350. Better to keep it as is since it's a rare engine.

Hi Mike, thanks for your comments. This remains one of my favorite builds. A woman inherited her fathers Corvette and wanted to keep it as original as possible. The problem was that it had sat for more than a decade unattended. When we opened up the engine it was a disaster. Nevertheless, we set out to save it. Frankly, we were not optimistic that it could be saved. Happily, the engine block in the video is the original, numbers-matching block. Check out this video clip of our guys air hammering out the pistons: www.flickr.com/photos/borowskirace/12818596233/in/album-72157641574828805/ Bottom line, one very happy customer!

Building one right now withroller rocker double hump 202s that's been ported and hardened seats with flat tops so I can actually run it. Going in 57 vette that I have owned since 1982. It'll be better than 283 that was in it.

Why a roller?, these engines can already spin at high rpms, the problem is the heads. Stock heads will always comprise performance numbers. Should have invested a little more for aftermarket heads.

The purpose of this rebuild was not to make power. It was part of a restoration project that was intending to reconstruct a family heirloom to near original condition as a driver. The hydraulic roller cam would be maintenance-free and not visible. It's unlikely the daughter who inherited her late father's car would ever floor it and no chance she'd ever race it.

A roller will give an engine more years than a flat tappet cam will for one thing
